Numb

Chapter II

Courtney's POV:

Nine year ago, my older brother, my whole world, my idol, walked left me. Nine years later, he came back. That's today.

What is a brother? A brother isn't as caring or mushy gushy as a sister would be. A brother's pure goal is to annoy the hell out of his sister. An older brother is supposed to ward off boys, and stop his baby sister from wearing certain clothes. Though a brother may piss you off every moment of everyday, he will cheer you up and make you laugh if you're down.

My brother wasn't that. Not even close to that definition. My brother didn't even get a chance to stop me from dating boys, he wasn't there to annoy me until I threw a book at his head. He wasn't there to stop me from wearing revealing clothes. because he left me, even after I'd basically lost everything.

My parents died when I was one, and Ashley was twelve. It didn't faze me that much, in fact I didn't even remember them. My first memory, actually happened to be the day of their funeral. I remember Ashley, holding my infant self in his arms, gently kissing my forehead as tears dripped from his eyes. He whispered to me that he'd never leave me, that he's always be there to protect me, and that we were in this together.

I guess he didn't care as much as I'd hoped. Since when I was simply nine years old, and he twenty-one, he chose to leave. I understand how he wanted to pursue his music career, but the fact that he left, and refused to contact any of us pissed me.

So there I was, stating blankly into the matured face of my older brother. His smile was warm, a very common sight from when we were little. Ashley stood up from the couch and spread his arms wide, as if he expected me to run into his inviting arms. And maybe in another life I would've, one where I would cling onto him for dear life and beg him to never leave me again. But in this life, the cut in my heart that he made when he walked out had finally stitched itself together, only to be reopened again by the same man.

I spun on my heel, and quickly stalked out the door, rushing to be room only to slam and lock the door behind me. In one fluent motion, I collapsed against my closer door, my knees promptly giving up on me. I buried my head in between my knees as sobs began to wrack my body, and the mental wall I'd built up began to crumble.

Ashley's POV:

The place smelt of home. It just had a homey, comfortable feel to it. It was filled with some of my greatest and earliest memories, which made it all the more special.

Gran an hadn't changed a bit, in fact, it didn't even seem like she's aged a day, and looked even more lively. She was ecstatic when she saw me, her eyes lighting up like the Fourth of July. The house itself looked the same; warm and spotless.

My grandparents raised me, and I was forever grateful, but I was mostly excited to see Court. The last time I'd seen my baby sister, she was in fourth grade, and extremely tiny. She'd always been small.

I regretted leaving them everyday I was away. I didn't even call or contact any of them. In fact, the real reason I was here was because Andy was followed on twitter by a girl who claimed to be my sister. I looked her up and saw how much she's changed. Andy and the guys managed to convince me to actually come and visit them. Maybe even hopefully bring Court to L.A so she could live with me.

I heard tiny footsteps through Gran's chatter, and my heart leapt. I was actually really excited to see her. Did she have a boyfriend? Did I have to kill her boyfriend? Had she applied to university?

And then I saw her. Her long hair was pulled into a side-braid, and she had on a black crop top and black short shorts. She was wearing makeup, but she didn't need it.

Her jaw dropped when she saw me, "hey Court, been awhile, hasn't it?" I asked with a small smirk.

She he didn't say anything as I approached her, wanting a hug, but she repelled away from me, and darted up the stairs to her room. I glanced at Gran and she shrugged. I sighed and followed quickly after her.

Hi, I love your fanfiction but I wanted to talk to you about your brother. My advice is don't waste your time hating him. Life is too short and relationships with your siblings are too important. Trust me.
