A War Worth Fighting For

Raynes POV
The stumps that were once my mates beautiful wings have shrunken under his skin. It’s been two weeks since he lost them; he is in and out of consciousness, mostly out. He burns up every now and again too. The guys come in everyday, each healing him a little more but careful not expend all the energy they have. Every day he seems to get stronger, but we all wait for him to wake up completely. “Don’t leave me Jinxx.”

Ashley’s POV
Rayne is torn apart. She won’t leave Jinxx’s side for a second. She has resigned her post as head warrior putting Andy back in charge, but he too doesn’t leave. None of us do. Our close friend is now mortal and none of us feel right. I just hope he wakes up. I hope he hasn’t given up. I don’t know what we would do without him, what Rayne would do.

Andy’s POV
Michael wants us to continue hunting out the other new demons and eradicate them completely. I’ve repeatedly told him that we would not leave. “Michael, I promise, once Jinxx is awake and we no longer have to fear what Rayne will do, we will go out and hunt them all down. I want nothing more than to see the destruction of these…things. I want my revenge for what they did to my friends but right now Rayne needs us here!”
“Andy, you are the head warrior.”
“Then take my place Michael. I will not fight until my friend is awake. The rest of the group will agree.”
“I can’t and you know that.”
“Well then I give my orders. You take the warriors, find one of them to lead, find the creatures, and decimate them. When my group is able to fight again we will meet with you. Until then, we stay here.”
“As you wish Andy.”

CC’s POV
I walk in to their room, Rayne is asleep wrapped around Jinxx. I’m careful not to wake them as I take my turn to heal him. I place my hands on his chest and close my eyes and let my energy surge through him. I hear him whimper slightly and hope that he wakes up, but nothing. “You have to hang in there my friend. Don’t give up on us. We’re here for you.”
“I’m sure he can hear you babe.”
“I don’t know Shawna. It’s like he’s here but not. Almost like when his soul lost its way looking for Rayne when she was taken so many years ago. I hate standing here and watching him like this.”
“What are you thinking?”
“I think I’m going to take the lead, find these demons and destroy them. It’s their fault that this happened to him and until they are all dead, everyone is still in danger.”
She wraps her arms around me,“Are you sure?”
I kiss her quickly, “Yes”, and go to find Michael and Andy.

Jake’s POV
Andy, Michael and I are sitting around the table in silence. Trying to choose a warrior that could take Andy’s spot. A very sullen quiet fills the entire house. Ella and the girls sit in silence watching t.v. if you could call it that. They stare at the picture but you can tell their minds are elsewhere.
“I’ll do it.”
The three of us turn to see CC and Shawna standing in the doorway to Rayne’s room. They walk towards us, Shawna gripping his arm tight. I was in complete shock, “You can’t be serious.”
“I can’t sit around here all day and watch them. It’s breaking my heart. None of the warriors would be able to lead the entire army. Who better to take Andy’s place, I want to do this.”
Michael stands, “CC, you do realize the dangers this can bring?”
“Of course, but it’s more dangerous to let them run rampant. Just because they don’t have a leader now doesn’t mean they won’t find one. I need to do this. For Jinxx and Rayne, and for our family’s safety.”
Andy hung his head, and nodded. “I don’t think you should, but I also agree, you would be the best to lead. Just make sure you have your head right, we already almost lost Jinxx, we don’t want to lose you too.”
“Tell Rayne I love her. And if Jinxx wakes up, tell him I love him too.”
“C’mon CC, we have a lot to do. I’ll meet you outside.”
Michael walks out, CC walks up to Andy and hugs him hard. After a moment, Andy heads out of the room turning to us before he starts down the hallway to Ash and Katies room, “I’ll let Ash know, you know he’ll try to stop you so I’ll give it a minute or two.”
CC pulls me in tight. “Keep them all safe. And watch closely over Shawna.”
“Of course CC, be safe brother. Come back whole.” Down Ashley’s hallway I can hear him fighting to get past Andy, “I’d, uh, get going if I were you.”
“Tell him I love him as well.”
“I will”
He nods and walks away, stopping by the door where Shawna stands crying. He kisses her deeply and runs his thumb over her cheek. He looks back and around one last time and flies off to meet Michael.
Ash comes burning down the hallway and out the door looking up to the sky with tears in his eyes screaming in anger.

Raynes POV
I hear Ash screaming outside, waking me from a restless sleep. I stand and run out in to the kitchen, I look at Jake then out the door to see Andy holding Ash back from flying off. He’s fucking pissed!
“What the fuck is going on around here.”
“CC went to lead the warriors, they are hunting down all the new demons. They are going to try and eradicate them. Ashley isn’t too happy about it.”
My breath comes out in a rush, “What?”
“He wanted me to tell you he loves you.”
“Why?”
“He said he couldn’t stand here and watch you and Jinxx fall apart, and he said it would be dangerous to let any other warrior take the lead. None of us want to leave. I think he’s so angry he feels the need for revenge.”
“I hope he knows what he’s doing.”
“He didn’t even say goodbye.” Poor Ash
I wrap my arms around him as he comes up to me, “You know you wouldn’t have let him leave.”
He nods and walks back to his room.
This family is falling apart.
