A War Worth Fighting For

Raynes’s POV
“He’s in there”
Ash points to a cave like building, set into the side of a mountain. “The place is surrounded. I have to get some help.”
“Andy, there isn’t enough time.”
“Ash is right, there isn’t enough time.”
“And just what are we supposed to do Rayne?”
“We need a distraction.”
“I think I can be of some assistance.”
We all turn around to see Troian leaning against a boulder.
“Well so much for CC and Jake being lookouts.” I hear crashing through the trees and CC and Jake land with Wes. “Nice of you to join us.”
“Damn you Troian. I’m sorry Rayne, he blocked us off from you guys. We couldn’t reach you, and he ran by us so fast, he already had a head start.”
“It’s ok CC. So Troian, you’ve come to help us get my mate out of there?”
“No Rayne, I’ve come to destroy Balan, but, I have no problems helping you get your mate if you help me get to the former prince of hell.”
“What did you have in mind?’
“Rayne are you nuts? We’re talking about the demon of night, the one who helped kidnap you while you were human!!”
“Jake, do you have any ideas of how to go about this, cuz the rest of us sure don’t and I want Jinxx out of there, whole.”
Troians laughter echoes along the side of the mountain, making us cringe. The last thing we want to do is give away our position.
“Relax Angels. You are all still protected under Lucifer. I will not harm you. I will not cross him again. The torture I endured under Satan is not something I ever want to go through again.”
I swear I saw him shiver.
“So then, Demon of Night, what’s your plan?

Jinxx’s POV
I am weak, and in pain and I’m being watched around the clock for any signs that Rayne might be near. Balan visits regularly and sometimes aids in my torture. My wings are almost bare, almost ever feather has fallen from the membrane. I can’t even open my eyes.
I don’t know the time, I have no idea how long I’ve been here. It feels like years, and I’m starting to lose hope. What if they can’t find me?
A sob escapes me. I fight against Raynes barriers to reopen the connection. I can’t go on like this anymore. I find her mind but withhold the pain. “I’m so sorry my love.”
“Jinxx? Jinxx, no, don’t you dare give up on me. We are right outside baby. We are coming for you.”
“I can’t take anymore.”
“Please baby, please be strong. Just a little. While. Longer.”
“Please, my love, please…hurry.”
I shut the connection off and sob.

Rayne’s POV
“He wants to give up. We need to do this, and right now. If you aren’t with me then I go alone.”
Everyone nods and the plan goes into motion. I fly down with Andy and Ash and land in front of the new demon army.
“I am here to see Balan and Roskun. We have Wes with us!”
The army start to mull and a few go scampering into the doorway. They reek of death, and the more they move, the more I can feel and smell, fear.
“We feel it too Rayne.” I look at Andy, who keeps his poker face, and nod.
It doesn’t take long for Balan to emerge. “Well, hello there Rayne. I see you got Roskuns letter.”
“I did, and I want my mate. I will give you Wes in trade.”
“Well now, that was easy wasn’t it? That’s all we wanted all along. So where is the human?”
“He’s with my other two warriors. I will not trade him off, until I have Jinxx out here. I want to know he’s alive, I want to know he is whole.”
“Why don’t you come inside, Rayne? Stay and chat?”
“Ha, you must think I’m nuts to even suggest it! Out here, or we leave.”
“And leave your mate behind?” I stand tall, and my eyes soften. “Oh, my. Well, now that’s something. You wouldn’t live through it would you. You would rather die than live without your mate. Deal with the Devil miss Rayne?”
I feel Ash and Andy’s eyes on me but I keep mine on Balan. I wouldn’t walk either world without my mate, I would have myself killed, and I never told the guys this.
“Tell Roskun to bring the Angel out here. No more harm is to come to him. And Rayne? Be a good girl and have Wes brought out here.” I wave my hand up to signal Jake and CC. They land behind me, and Wes walks forward. “Hello again human.”
Wes stands tall with his chin up, his ancestors should be proud.
“Where’s my mate.”
Just then Roskun comes through the doorway, Jinxx over his shoulder. He stops in front of Balan and drops hi to the ground. He looks lifeless, his wings have lost almost all of their feathers. I look up with tears in my eyes to the two Demons before me. “How could you?”
“It’s very easy, Angel. Torture with no remorse comes naturally to us, we’re demons, remember? Now send the tall one to collect your mate, and Wes, you walk to us.”
Andy runs from my side to scoop Jinxx up in his arms. Wes walks towards the demons, taking his time but not enough to make it suspicious. As soon as Andy had his hands on Jinxx I called out. “NOW!!!!”

THIRD PERSON POV
A wall of the best hellion warriors surge up from the rock wall. Some come down from the roof of the building and some come from the skies. Andy lifts Jinxx from the ground and Ash swoops in to grab Wes. CC and Jake run into the fray, swords held high. Rayne meets with Troian and chase down Roskun. Before they could run any further, a scream is heard. Rayne turns to see a new demon with a bloody sword and two black, featherless wings lying limply on the ground.
She stops, and screams. “JINXX!!!!”
Andy struggles to keep a hold on Jinxx as the new demon claws at him. CC is quick to run in and remove the demons head.
With tears in her eyes she links to Andy, “Get him home, and keep him alive. We’ll meet you back at the house.”
Troian bellows from the doorway, “Rayne, a deal is a deal, let us go!”
With one last glance behind her, looking on as her friends fly away with her now, wingless mate. She follows Troian into the belly of the mountain after the two marked demons.
Her voice echos through the darkness. “I will have my revenge.”
