The next morning I'm awakened by a nurse, she said I had visitors, so I told her to let them in. My best friend leans in through the doorway along with her ex. Ricky gives me a sympathetic smile and my best friend gives me a smirk along with the roll of the eyes. "What happened this time?" She asks, taking a slice of cold pizza.

"Kinda fainted." I tell her and she nods, taking a seat on the end of the bed. Ricky sits in the chair next to me.

"Why'd you faint Scarlet?" He asks which is weird because he barely ever speaks to me.

"Best not to talk about it." I tell him.

"The more you hide things, the worst it will become." He says.

"Ashley, Andy's friend and the bassist of his band. He showed up at my apartment and I fainted."

"But what does Ashley have to do with it?"

"The other night Ashley went a little too far and it brought back memories of my parents."

"I'm sorry Scar. Do you want to talk about it?" "No thanks, I think I'm good for now."

"Nice flowers." She says, I look over to the left to see the irises.

"Thanks, Kellin gave those to me yesterday."

The doctor came in and took a good look at the papers on the door. "Mrs Quinn." The doctors says. I raise a brow at him, then realized Kellin.

"Yes." I answer.

"The papers look good, you seem fine, I think you can go home now."

"Thanks Doc." He nods and leaves the room.

"Great! Ricky go bring the car around." Nicole tells him and he does. I look into the overnight bag Kellin packed and took out; my Miss May I Tshirt, white skinny jeans, and black vans. Once I was dressed, I let Nicole do my makeup and hair. She put my hair in a french fish tail, and did cat's eyes as my makeup. Then, Nicole and I went down to the front to wait for Ricky.

"Nicole." I say and she looks over at me. "Do you want to stay with me for the week? Seeing my aunt has gone to New York."

"Sure, sounds like fun!" She says overly cheery. I just laugh a little at her excitement.



My alarm wakes me and it's about 6:30am. I groan and get out of bed. I take a quick shower, and change into my Guns N Roses long sleeve shirt, my light blue skinny jeans, and my knee high brown leather boots. I leave my hair and decide not to put on any makeup. I walk back into my room to see Nicole still asleep and it's 7 already. I shake her a few times and she finally wakes up. She gets up and goes into the bathroom. I move into the kitchen and start making pancakes for breakfast. My phone starts to ring and I answer at the third ring. "Hello?" I ask, my voice still rusty.

"Scarlet I understand you don't want me anywhere near you, but seeing we are in the musical together-" I stop him.

"Oli don't ever call this number again, and by the way I quit the play!" I yell hanging up the phone. I finish with the pancakes as soon as Nicole comes out.

"Morning." She says softly.

"Morning. Do you want to walk to school today?" I ask and she nods.

After breakfast we begin to walk to school. She tells me about her date with a girl named Pixie and I tell her about what happened at the hospital. Soon it was lunch and I decided to be alone. I sit at the playground across the street from the high school. I take out my notebook and start sketching. I draw a crying girl with darkness pulling her down by her feet. The girl is my heart and I'm letting it be taken by the darkness. Soon the bell rings and I walk into Mr Barakat's science room. "Miss Kanes." He calls me over to his desk.

"Yes sir." I say.

"Right now we are in the middle of a lab so I'll give you a different project to work on. I want you to write a song on science. I think I can use it in my grade nine science class next semester."

"Sounds interesting, I'll start right away."

"Oh and I'll need it by tomorrow after school." I nod and walk over to a desk. I sit down, open up my notebook, and start writing. Soon the bell rings and I walk into the music room.

"Didn't anyone tell you? The class is in the auditorium today." Says Caleb.

"Thanks." I tell him.

"What's your name?"

"Scarlet, but everyone calls me Scar."

"Well Scar, you seem to be the smartest person in this class." He says as we walk down to the auditorium.

"Oh really, thank you. You're too kind."

"Are you busy the night of Halloween? I'm kinda throwing a party and it'd be cool if you showed."

"I'm totally in." He opens the door for me.

"Great, don't forget your costume." He says as we walk in.

"Alright everyone's here. All on stage please!" Yells Andy and we all get on stage. "Line up." We do. "Kellin, Oli, and Scarlet, you're the three main characters. Kellin you'll play Johnnie. Oli you're playing Ryan. And Scarlet you're Maya."

"I don't want to play the lead." I say.

He gives me a raised brow before saying, "I don't care what you want, you're playing the lead or I'll fail you. Your choice." I roll my eyes at him and stand next to Kellin. Andy calls everyone else's names and has us go over our scales. Almost everyone can kinda sing but there's always Taylor who sounds like a whale, no that's offensive to whales. "Scarlet!" Andy yells my name and I walk over to him.

"Yes Mr Biersack." I say with as little emotion as possible.

"Here's all the songs you're gonna need to learn to sing, I'll send Jake over to your apartment to start learning." I nod and begin to walk away, but "And Scarlet." I turn around. "I need you to run lines with Oli."

"Of course." I mumble, walking off. I walk up to Oli. "Here's what's going to happen, we are going to run lines together and not talk about relationship shit, okay?" I tell him and he nods. "Page four. You start."

"Hey babe, who's your new friend?" He says.

"Oh this is Johnnie, he's kinda new here so I thought I'd give him a tour of the school. Wait stop, let's get Kellin in on this." I drag Kellin by the arm over to Oli. "Okay resume."

"Nice to meet you, I'm Ryan, Maya's boyfriend." Says Oli.

"Nice to meet you, Maya's told me nothing about you." Says Kellin.

"Sorry guys it's my parents I have to go answer this, I'll be right back." I say pretending to walk off.

"Listen you little emo fag, stay away from Maya or I swear you're dead!" Growls Oli, he's really good.

"Sorry it was a pocket dial, you ready to go Johnnie?" I say.

"Uh yeah." Says Kellin, the stuttering was a nice touch.

"See ya later babe." I say. "End of scene. Okay, well he said I had to run lines with you, he didn't say for how long. I'm leaving, I'll see you tomorrow Kellin." I say kissing him on the cheek.

"Where do you think you're going Miss Kanes?" Asks Andy.

"Going home." I say.

"You can't, school's not over for an hour."

"Ya well see ya." I say giving a little wave and leaving the room.

"That's Saturday detention for you!" He yells to me. I shake it off and go to my locker, retrieving my sketches from earlier today. There's a slight tap on my shoulder and I turn my head. Oh it's just Mr Gaskarth.

"Scarlet what are you doing out of class, it isn't like you." He says and I shrug.

"My teacher's being an ass and I have better shit to do, pardon my language." I tell him.

"Hey you can curse, curse all you want, why should I give a shit? You're in my class, I swear all the fucking time." He says and I giggle. "You wanna go grab a smoke?"

"You smoke?"

"No but you can teach me."

"How about instead we just grab some air?"

"Sounds good to me." He says and we sit on the steps to enter the school. "Whatcha got there?" He asks, referring to my sketches.

"Just something I drew this afternoon." I hand it to him and he looks at me amazed.

"Wow you've got talent."

"Well it's not my only talent." I say as a black pick up truck parks in the parking lot. Fuck it's Ashley! "Shit!" I whisper.

"What's wrong?"

"You see that guy over there?" He nods. "He's a prick that I'm avoiding right now."

"Okay let me help." Ashley walks up the stairs and smirks at me. "It's not okay to punch someone Scar. The ambulance had to come to pick him up." Mr Gaskarth says giving me a wink to play along.

"I'm sorry but he spelt my name wrong." I say.

"It was still wrong, the doctors said if you would have punched him one more time, he would be in a comatose." Ashley looks at me strange and walks into the building.

"Thanks."

"No problem, you're like the best student I've ever had."

"Now tell me something, why are you wasting your free period with me when you could be off doing something?"

"There's nothing to do, I don't have many friends. I have Mr Barakat, Mr Merrick, and Mr Dawson, but they're always busy."

"What about Mr Biersack, Mr Motionless, and Mrs Williams?"

"Like you said, Biersack's an ass. Mr Motionless scares the shit out of me, and Mrs Williams only ever wants to talk about her love life." We both laugh.

"I think Mrs Williams has a thing for you."

"She does not, but I'm pretty sure she has a thing for Barakat."

"I can totally see that. Well if you ever wanna hang out you can catch me after school sometime."

"You for real?"

"Yeah, you're actually cooler than I thought you were."

"Thanks. You wanna hang out tonight? Go see a movie?"

"Not necessarily a movie, but yeah I'd like to hang out."

"Okay let's go."

"Where?"

"Just follow me."

"Fine." We walk down the street to the ice cream stand.

"Want some?" Mr Gaskarth asks.

"Chocolate please!" I tell him. He buys strawberry for himself and hands me the chocolate one. We continue walking and sit on a bench in the park. "Thanks Mr Gaskarth." I say in between licks of ice cream.

"No problem and please call me Alex." He tells me.

"Okay Alex, what's next?"

"I don't know, how's about the mall?"

"Sure." Alex drove us to the mall and we went into an album shop. We listened to some classics, and I learned we had a lot more in common than I thought. We went to see a movie. We saw the third Hobbit movie. Once we got out we decided to go get tacos.

"These are really good, thanks Alex." I thank him.

"No need to thank me, we're friends now and that's what friends do." He says.

"So what do you wanna do next?"

"I don't know, I'm kinda out of ideas. Is there anything you had in mind?"

"Well it's only six lets go to a club."

"It's Monday at 6pm, where is this club you speak of?"

"Look just trust me."

"Okay fine." It takes us a little over an hour but we finally get there. "We're not at a club, where are we?" He asks.

"Just get out of the car, we need to walk the rest of the way." I tell him.

"How far away is it from here?"

"10-15 minute walk. Let's go." We start walking down the path.

"You said we were going to a club."

"You know there's other meanings to the word club right? We're going to see a group of people I know."

"What kind of group of people are we talking about?"

"Calm your tits, you're not going to get stabbed if you keep your mouth shut." He laughs

"You're not serious are you?" I just keep walking. We finally get to the beach and I can see the fire just twenty feet away. "Is that them?"

"I hope so. Let's go." We walk up to them. The only two I recognize are Ricky and my dealer, Jay.

"Hey Scar." Says Ricky.

"Hey Ricky. Jay I need a refill." I say.

"Sure, who's the guy?" Asks Jay.

"Just Alex, he's a friend of mine. So how much?" I ask

"Fifty."

"I see you're boosting up the prices."

"I have to, the boss demands it. He also said that he wants to meet you."

"Why?"

"I showed him a picture of you and he just insisted on meeting with you."

"Fine, make it sometime on the weekend."

"Here," he hands me over the bag, "when you meet him, be careful. This man is powerful and dangerous Scar."

"I'll be fine Jay. See ya!" I say as I wave them goodbye. When we're twenty minutes down the beach Alex stops me.

"You do drugs?" He asks.

"Well yeah, every once and awhile. I can't believe Jay's boss wants to meet me. I heard he was a high class jackass that only went for models."

"You're actually going to meet with this guy? Jay just told you that he's dangerous ."

"Yes but who isn't dangerous. And it's not like it matters if my life ends, I can't be with the guy I most desire, so what's the point in living."

"Don't say that, just be careful."

"I will, I will. So you just met my dealer, what'd you think?"

"He seemed nice. So what are we gonna do now?"

"Maybe take a dip?"

"It's the end of October, Scar."

"Exactly." I run into the water. The freezing cold waves cover my body. "Join me Alex!" I shout.

"I'm good out here."

"Alex, don't make me pull you in." He runs into the water and joins me. We have a splashing war and before we know it it's 10:30pm.

"Holy shit it's late."

"Yeah it is, let's go back to my apartment."

"Okay." Alex drives us back to my apartment and he lays on the couch. I grab the bottle of vodka Andy and Kellin gave me, and I sit on Alex's lap. I take a huge gulp of it, the liquid burns the back of my throat and I love it.

"Want some?" I ask handing him the bottle.

"I have to drive home." He says in a bit of a wine, sitting up but I'm still on him.

"You don't have to go home, you can stay here. Stay with me, just for tonight."

"You don't think that's a little inappropriate seeing I'm your teacher?"

"Not at all, it's not like we're fucking."

"True." He takes the bottle and takes a sip.

"Now that's the spirit!"

"Scar! Keep it down I'm trying to sleep!" Nicole yells as she walks into the room. I push Alex's head down. "Who's that?"

"Who's who?" I ask. Alex continues drinking the bottle.

"Who's the guy you have your legs wrapped around?" She asks. I look down to realize what she said was true. Fuck it, I'm comfortable.

"Kellin."

"That's not Kellin, Kellin's hair is darker than that."

"Look can you just leave us alone?"

"Okay but you better not cheat on Kellin, he's your last hope. And keep it down."

"Okay." She finally leaves and I look down to see he's already drank half the bottle. "You drinking me out of vodka?" We both laugh and he sits back up.

"So you're dating Kellin? The new kid?" He asks.

"Well yeah, he really likes me and I need him."

"For what?"

"I made a promise when I was six to be married before my nineteenth birthday or at least engaged. My aunt holds me to it." I say taking another sip.

"Wow, what a bitch. That must suck."

"Yeah especially since I'm not in love with Kellin. The man I'm in love with is too old for me and I think he hates me now."

"I'm sure he doesn't."

"You don't know that." He tilts my head up with his thumb.

"But I do, no one can hate all of this." I turn my head and get up.

"You wanna watch a movie? I wanna watch a movie."

"Sure, what movie?"

"Die Hard?"

"I love that movie!"

"Good, do you mind putting it in? I mean the disk in the DVD player."

"Don't mind at all." He chuckles. I go into the kitchen and start making popcorn. I tap the counter and take huge gulps of the bottle. Was that Alex making a move? No I'm sure it's not. He was just trying to make me feel better, I'm sure of it. When the popcorn's finished I put it in a bowl and join Alex on the couch. He presses play and the movie begins.

The next morning I wake up laying on Alex with his hand caressing my ass in his sleep. I slowly get up, not disturbing him and walk into my bedroom. My best friend sits cross legged on my bed. "I told you not to."
