Happy Little Pill

Kensington Grille

There was a long line of people waiting outside of Kensington Grille and it was making me nervous. Did Lauren get reservations? I climbed out of my car and smoothed out my skirt. Kensington Grille is one of the top restaurants in LA, and it is really fancy. I looked around and then my eyes landed on my sister. She looked so different. She spotted me and waved. I walked over to her quickly and she smiled.

"Hey Sadee," she said and held her arms out.

"Hey Lauren," I hugged her and when she pulled away, she got a good look at me.

"You look so much like dad," she said and I saw her eyes beginning to tear up.

"I know, and it kills me everyday," I said and she smiled.

"Well, let's head inside. I hope you don't mind that I brought my husband and kids with," She said. I shrugged and we walked inside. As we got to the table, I saw her husband, who I met because I was her maid of honor six years ago, but I saw another guy there who had to be at least sixteen. I smiled at them and Lauren's husband stood to greet me.

"Hello Sadee," his thick German accent made it a little difficult to understand him.

"Hello Gustav," I said and shook his hand. When we all sat down I looked at Lauren.

"Alright, you know Gustav, but you do not know the other three. This handsome young man is Charlie, he is Gustav's son from another relationship. This cutie over here is Cienne, she is four, and this one here is Claus, he is two," she smiled and I couldn't help but smile back.

"Hey everyone," I said and they all smiled.

"I am so glad you agreed to meet me," Lauren said.

"I don't hate you like I hate mom, so of course I agreed," I said. She looked at me and then down at the table.

"So, what have you been up to?" Gustav asked and I looked at him.

"I've been living in LA for two years now, but I finally got this awesome opportunity to write songs for another artist," I said.

"What artist?" Gustav asked.

"Andy Biersack, he's the lead singer of Black Veil Brides," I said and Charlie's head popped up.

"Black Veil Brides? They're my favorite band," his accent was surprisingly American.

"I think I could get them to meet you," I chuckled and he nodded.

"So what brings you guys to LA?" I asked.

"We are actually moving here," Lauren said.

"Why? I mean it's awesome, but what about the UN?" I asked.

"Sadee, I left the UN three years ago. I've been a stay at home mom while Gustav here gets famous in the business world," she said.

"Oh, well, what made you leave? Besides becoming a mom," I said.

"It was getting overwhelming with all of the issues in the Middle East and I couldn't handle it anymore," she said as she sipped a glass of wine.

"Wow, you always said you loved working for the UN," I said.

"I did, it was an amazing experience, but these three are more important," she said.

"They look pretty amazing. Where are you moving to in LA?" I asked.

"Ocean Grove," she said. I looked at her with wide eyes. That's where me and Andy live.

"Ocean Grove? Which house?" I asked.

"It's a little bit into the suburbs, but the number is 99876W," she said and I almost spit my wine out.

"Really? I live in 99877W," I chuckled and she looked at me.

"No offense, but how are you affording that house?" She asked.

"My roommate makes a lot of money and already paid off the house," I said and she looked at me.

"Well, I guess we will be seeing you a lot then," she smiled.

"I guess so," I said.

"What kind of music do you write?" I heard Charlie ask.

"Um, well, it's kind of combination of soft rock and hard rock," I said.

"Cool, do you think that when we move in our house, I could hear one of the songs?" Charlie asked. I looked at Lauren and she looked back at me.

"Um, yeah, some of them are for Andy's project, so I can't show you those, but I can show you some of the ones we wrote for fun," I said.

"Cool," he was really happy. We all talked for a while about our lives and what we are planning to do, my sister is planning on getting back into politics and go for office for something in California. After we ordered our food and began eating I noticed how distant Gustav and Lauren were being.

"Not to be intrusive, but, are you and Gustav doing okay?" I asked Lauren quietly and she looked at me with sad eyes.

"We're okay for now," she answered and I nodded. I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket but decided to ignore it.

"So guess what I did earlier?" I asked all of them.

"Wrote songs?" Charlie asked.

"Kinda, I recorded a song, with Andy," I smiled and Lauren looked at me.

"Wow, is it any good?" She asked.

"I don't know, you're gonna have to buy the Andy Black album when it comes out," I smiled and took another bite of my food.

"Come on Sadee," Lauren chuckled.

"Okay fine, it's a song I wrote about dad, with the help of Andy," I said and she looked at me.

"About dad?" She asked.

"Yeah, whenever you move in, come over and I'll show you the song," I said and she nodded.

"We're moving in next Monday," she said.

"Where are you staying in the meantime?" I asked.

"A hotel," she seemed so happy about that. I chuckled and continued eating.

When we all finished our food and dessert, we all got ready to leave.

"It was so good seeing you," Lauren hugged me outside of Kensington Grille. I hugged her back and rubbed her back.

"I look forward to being your neighbor," I smiled and walked over by my car.

"I will call you tomorrow," she said and we waved goodbye. I climbed into my car and began the drive home. Wow, I never thought my sister would leave the UN, let alone move back to the US. As I pulled into the driveway, I saw Andy sitting out front on the porch. I took a breath and walked up to the front door and sat down next to him.

"Did you have fun doing whatever you were doing?" He asked.

"So much fun. I found out my sister bought that house," I pointed to the house across the street from ours and he chuckled.

"Your sister who is in the UN?"

"She's not anymore apparently," I said.

"So, are we gonna talk about earlier?" He asked. I looked at him and made a face.

"I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy it," I smiled and he chuckled.

"I would hope you enjoyed it. What are we now?" He asked as he smoked his cigarette.

"What do you want to be?" I asked him and looked at his face. He was thinking hard about it and was making a concentrated face.

"To be honest, I would absolutely love it if you were my girlfriend, but, we've only known each other for a month, and we both just got out of relationships, so. I was thinking, we could just be friends with benefits right now," he smiled and I shook my head with a smile on my face.

"Fine. But I will be your girlfriend one day," I said and then pecked him on the cheek before getting up and walking in the house. Today has just been a whirlwind of emotion and I am liking this feeling I have in my stomach.

Notes

So, not too much drama. I decided that they will be friends with benefits because they both just got out of long term relationships two weeks ago. So yeah. But awesome stuff about to happen!
