Happy Little Pill

Three Songs Later

The warmth of my blanket covered me and made it difficult to want to get up. Andy and I are going to the studio today and show Dan my song, and hopefully get it recorded. As I was just thinking about getting out of my bed, my cell phone began vibrating on my night stand. I grabbed it quickly and hit answer.

"Hello," I said with a sleepy voice.

"Sadee?" I heard a female ask.

"Yes, who is this?" I asked as I sat up and furrowed my eyebrows.

"It's Lauren," the woman said and my mouth dropped.

"Hey, um," I stopped and heard her chuckle.

"I know this is last minute kind of call, but I want to meet up with you," her voice sounded different, almost like she had been crying.

"Um, yeah, I have to do something later today, are you in LA?" I asked.

"Yeah, I'm here for a couple days and I wanted to meet up with you," she said. I climbed out of my bed and walked over to my dresser to grab some clothes.

"Wanna meet for dinner, like late night dinner?" I asked.

"How late?" She asked.

"Um, at least nine," I said. She was quiet for a second.

"Yeah, that's fine. How are you doing?" She asked.

"I'm doing great actually, I don't know if you heard, but I'm a songwriter," I said.

"I did hear, mom called me and said you were doing some big project with a singer of a band," she said.

"Yeah, well, it's not a big project, just a side project," I said and she laughed.

"I know, I'll call you later with the restaurant, alright?"

"Yeah, that's fine, I look forward to seeing you," I said and she said her bye and hung up. A smile spread across my face and I set my phone down. I haven't seen Lauren in almost seven years, she moved to Germany a while ago to pursue her career in politics and became an American representative for the UN.

After getting dressed and putting make up on, I walked downstairs to the kitchen to make myself something to eat quickly. Andy was sitting at the island, on a chair, with a cup of coffee in his hand and his head was leaning against his arms.

"Good morning Andy," I said and he jumped a little.

"Tired much?" I chuckled and he looked at me.

"I spent the whole night arguing with Juliet," he said quietly and I looked at him.

"What?" I asked.

"She called me and I tried telling her I didn't want to talk to her, but she kept on talking, then I started talking back and it escalated into a mess," he said. I held the door to the fridge open and swallowed.

"She doesn't get it, does she?" I asked with a sigh and turned to the contents of the fridge. There wasn't much, but we did have milk and cereal. As I poured myself a bowl Andy got up from his spot and went to get another cup of coffee.

"How many cups is that?" I asked.

"This is my fifth," he said and sat back down before taking a sip.

"Why don't you go take a nap, our meeting isn't until three," I said.

"Actually, Dan called this morning, and he moved it to noon," Andy said and took another drink.

"Noon? What? Why?" I asked and sat down next to Andy.

"Something about giving us time to write and such, I have no idea, the man has been having a stressful week," he said and I smiled.

"Let's write, right now," I said.

"I am barely able to hold this cup, how do you think I'm going to make coherent thoughts on a song?" Andy asked and I shrugged.

"I find that writing a song while sleep deprived or high off of coffee is the best time to write," I smiled and set down the notebook.

"Give me a line," I said and Andy stared at me.

"What are we writing about?" Andy asked.

"Your choice," I said and he groaned.

"How about we write about my fight with Juliet?" Andy asked.

"I don't care, give me a line," I said and Andy laid his head on the table.

"I stand in the street, your frame disappearing,
It's like watching my life crumble,
Into a million pieces," he sang and I wrote it down.

"How about,
Your frame disappears into the street light,
I stand in the middle of the road,
Watching the only thing I knew,
Walk away,"
I sang and he sighed.

"No offense, but you are making it sound country," he said and I smacked his shoulder.

"I am not country Andrew," I said.

"Never said you were, it just sounds like a love song. I want to write about a love story that is forbidden," he said.

"I already suggested Romeo and Juliet, you said no," I said.

"I'm not singing about Shakespeare," he said.

"Okay fine, you want to write a song about teenagers who are in a relationship, ones the good girl, ones the bad boy?" I asked.

"No, that my dear is country, or pop. I want to write about two teenagers who are similar, like rock music and such, but their story is forbidden," he said.

"Okay, we are not writing a love story, too stupid and cliche, we are going to write about you, kind of, more like a singer who is trying to make it in this big world of music, rock music," I said.

"Okay?" He seemed unsure.

"You are being so difficult," I said with a laugh.

"Difficult is my middle name," he smiled.

"Actually, your middle name is Dennis," I said.

"Why do you know me that well?" He asked.

"I'm a stalker living in your house, it's all good," I laughed and he shook his head.

"It's like eleven," he said. I groaned and set the notebook down.

"Go get dressed, take a shower because I could smell you from my bedroom," I said. He flipped me off and disappeared upstairs.

"The fire inside, burns so bright,
It's a passion for getting through it.
My life has thrown me into the pit,
Thrown me into the life of darkness.
That fire inside, it burned so bright,
I was never scared again." I sang quietly and wrote it down. No that doesn't look right.

"My life has thrown me,
Into a dark and dreary pit.
Somewhere in the lap of luxury,
I slipped away,
Oh hell no, that doesn't even make sense," I chuckled and swallowed. Andy and I have this weird relationship, I could write about that.

"They always said we would never make it,
That we would never amount to anything.
Our fire burned bright, brighter than the sun.
We're living our dream, taking our time.
I am not in the right mind to write today!" I exclaimed and threw the notebook on the island.

"Are you okay?" I heard and turned to see Andy, fully dressed, with wet hair.

"I am fine, let's go," I said and we left the house. This meeting better go good and I can record this song.
