six feet under the stars
they Don't compare to you
I was walking with him. The same heart stopping blue eyes stared straight into my green ones. It was peaceful and quiet as we babbled on about nothing. I asked him what his favorite color was and he said green like your eyes. I couldn't tell if he was lying to be sweet or telling the truth and it was a fluke that he found someone with eyes like mine. I was hoping he wouldn't ask me mine but he did anyway "purpley bluish black. Like a midnight sky."
"or Delilah's eyes." I smiled at him. He knew everything about this girl and she probably knew everything about him. They where like Wendy and I no matter how much I hated it.
His never faltering smile directed its self to me. "You know I was kinda hoping you liked day time sky better but I'll forgive you."
I laughed at his terrible ego. "Who's to say I won't forgive you for totally lying to be cute." He smiled no denying it. I was hoping he would. After a few moments of silence I asked the question that was burning my insides like the fire my mother set "how did you meet Delilah you two seem to close to be real." He looked at me like I was crazy
"hasn't she told you yet, she ran away."
"Well yes but not how you two met. Just that she snuck on a plane to L.A. in the bathroom." He gave a small smile.
"Well she had been in LA since August and she was expecting to be found by November but she hadn't. I found her in the same ally that I met you at. In shorts and a tank top with a hoodie she manged to convince a man to give her she was frail and thin. Even more so than now. She had a small swiss army knife she pulled from a gangster. Not her best idea ever but I suppose at the time she needed it." He took a deep breath and let it slip out as a sigh. "I offered her a hot meal and a shower. She was hesitant but she was ten and the thought of food made her join me. we talked and she told me everything. Her terrible father, how she ran away, how she never expected to be forgotten. I fell in love with her like a dad did with his daughter. She was half asleep when we got to my place where she could shower and sleep. She pulled off her tank top and I saw cuts that fit the blade she owned perfectly. More than she does now. And I know you know because she calls you black star. She calls me mr. Black. Its her sign of trust. I made it my mission to keep her safe from herself and others that day." He was about to cry. His eyes red and a stormy kinda grey now as he held them back. "I suppose I failed then."
I knew the feeling. I wasn't going to say he didn't because it would make it worse. All I did was hug him tight. I failed Justin a few years back and I still carried the grudge. Like the world on your shoulders and everyone is a backseat driver to how terrible you're doing it.
