How the hell could I have missed it? Ever since I left Missouri, it's been one thing after the other. First, her self harming, now the fact that she slept with my band member! Scratch that- my band member, and best friend, slept with my little sister! Fuck, I really need to start paying more attention to her...

Suddenly I heard the door open, and shut just as fast. Madi ran right past me and into her room. What the hell happened?

I walked up to her room, and heard sobbing through the door. When I tried to open it I realised it was locked. I had a twisted feeling in my gut that I really didn't appreciate.

"Madi!? Open the door!" Nothing. The sobbing was gone too. Fuck! I slammed my body against the door, trying to break it open.

"Please! We can fix this! We'll work it out! Just open the fucking door! Please, Madi!" Still nothing. Eith one more blow to the door, it swung on it hinges, making a hole in the wall.

"MADI!" She sat silently, staring down at her legs, where I saw hundreds, no- thousands of cuts. All fresh. She was holding a blade and she honestly has never looked so at peace with herself. I ran to grab the first aid kit, and when I came back she was waiting for me on her bed, the blade on her pillow. I snatched it away and threw it out the window. I wasn't going to lose her to this.

"Madi... What happened? Why are you doing this to yourself?" I asked as I disinfected her cuts. She whimpered and hugged her legs to her chest. I watched helplessly as she tried to keep her tears in, but failed. I hugged her to my chest.

"Please, Madi, tell me what happened." She sobbed quietly into my skin. What was I missing?
