Car Search
“Wow.” I saw Ashley’s mouth drop open. I smiled a little. We sat in silence for a while.
“So what about you guys. How’d you survive?” I asked. I saw a smirk appear on Ashley’s face.
“Well we were in L.A at the time the apocalypse started so we just jumped in to an abandoned car and drove as fast as we could until we came across an abandoned shopping centre. We hid in there for a while then moved on to the cupboard where you and Kellin found us.” Ashley said. I nodded. We sat in silence for a few minutes until we heard the moaning start again.
“Here we go again.” I mumbled under my breath. I saw Andy smile slightly. I rested my head against the wall and decided to get some sleep, knowing that I would probably need it for tomorrow. I dozed off in to a dreamless sleep. In the morning I gently opened my eyes only to see that Ashley wasn’t there.
“Hmm. Andy?” I whispered as he was still asleep. I saw him stir a bit.
“Yeah Flick?” He replied with a sleepy voice.
“Where’s Ashley?” I asked. He sat up and looked around. We both remained silent for a moment and listened intently. There were no moans.
“Maybe he just went to find the guys.”
“Maybe.” I said while getting up off the floor and walking towards the door, being careful not to step on Andy. I saw Andy lay back down and go back to sleep. I slowly opened the door and walked to the main part of the warehouse where I found the guys and Kellin.
“Morning sleepy head.” Kellin called across the room. I smiled.
“Morning.” I replied. “So what are we doing today?”
“Flick, the guys and I were talking and we think that it isn’t safe here anymore, so we need to find somewhere else to shelter.”
“Ok, where were you thinking?”
“Well that’s the thing we don’t know. We need a couple of people to go and look. That’s what we were talking about when you walked in.”
“Hmm, Ok then.” I walked over to them and sat down in between Kellin and CC.
“Who knows the area best?” Jinxx asked.
“Me and Flick know it quite well. Otherwise I don’t know.” Kellin replied. I had a light bulb moment.
“I know where we could go.” I said a little too over excitedly. They all turned to look at me. “How about that old army base?”
“Hmm that could work. But how can we get there? It’s like 40 miles away.” Kellin said.
“Ever heard of driving there?” We turned to see Andy standing at the door. I smiled at his sarcasm.
“Well it’s settled then. We find a car, pack up our stuff and go to the army base.” We all nodded in agreement.
“Let’s go find a car.” I said. We all stood up and headed towards the door. “Meet back here by noon guys. We can regroup and make some decisions.” We split up in to groups. Me, Ashley and Andy went one way and Kellin, CC, Jake and Jinxx went the other.
We walked for about half an hour until we came across an abandoned transit van.
“Think this will work?” Ashley asked while studying the van.
“Not sure. Anyone know how to hotwire it?” I asked.
“I could try it.” I heard Andy say. He walked over to the van and opened the door. After about 15 minutes the van sprung in to life.
“You did it.” Ashley said in a surprised tone.
“No, I just found the keys.” Andy replied while smiling.
“Oh.” I couldn’t help but laugh at Ashley’s expression. He really thought he had hotwired it.
“Jump in Ashley.” I said while opening the back door. He jumped in to the back and sat down just as I pulled the door closed.
“Hold on to something guys. Were about to mow down some zombies.” Just as Andy had finished his sentence the van started to jolt around. We were all being thrown about. Suddenly the back of the van flew upwards launching me and Ashley forward. Fortunately Ashley managed to grab on to something. Me on the other hand, I cracked my head on the roof of the van and on the back of the passenger seat. I lay motionless on the floor, unconscious.
