I was crying in to his shoulder. He picked me up bridal style and carried me to the reinforced cupboard where Ashley was waiting for us. Andy set me down on the floor and sat down next to me as Ashley closed and locked the door.
“I’m sorry Flick, I really am.” He said while wiping the tears from my face. I rested my head on his shoulder. He lifted his arm and put it around my shoulders.
“I should have realized it was hopeless.” I said in a shaky voice.
“What was hopeless?” He said. I saw his face distort in confusion.
“I thought that if Sophia could have survived then so could the rest of my family.” I said while putting my head in my hands and letting a few more tears escape. I felt Andy pull me in to a tight hug. It made me feel safe even though I was sat in a cupboard with two guys, hiding from loads of zombies who wanted to kill everyone. We all knew that we would be stuck in the cupboard for a while because the zombies were right outside the door.
“So what should we do apart from sit here?” Ashley asked while winking at me.
“Just talk I guess, there’s not much else we can do.” I replied. I knew exactly what Ashley was thinking and it was NEVER going to happen. There was an awkward silence.
“What happened to your family Flick?” Andy asked with a sympathetic look on his face.
----------------------------------------------------------FLASHBACK------------------------------------------------------------------
“Flick, Kellin were leaving to scout for food.” Dad shouted. “Are you two sure you don’t want to come?”
“Yeah were sure dad.” We yelled in unison. Neither of us particularly wanted to go, after all there were a crap ton of zombies around.
“Ok then, don’t leave the warehouse. Kellin, look after your sister.” He said while walking out of the warehouse door with the rest of the family. We didn’t know that they were never coming back.
----------------------------------------------------------A few hours later-------------------------------------------------------------
“Hey Kellin, shouldn’t they be back by now?” I asked. I was starting to worry about them; they never left us alone for more than an hour.
“Yeah, I guess so; try not to worry though Flick. They’ll be back soon.” He said while putting a reassuring arm around me. I knew he was worried to. I could see it in his eyes. I went to bed that night worried sick about them, I just laid there awake, staring up at the ceiling. That night was the longest night of my life. By the time morning came I knew something was wrong.
“Kellin, they’re not back yet.” I said.
“I know.” I saw him look at the ground.
“We should go look for them.” I said.
“Hmm, I guess it wouldn’t hurt.” He replied
“Great, let’s go.” I said. We walked cautiously out of the warehouse. We had never been out alone before. It was always too dangerous. We walked around a corner and saw a massive horde of zombies coming straight at us.
“Shit, run Flick run.” Kellin yelled. We turned and ran. We were about halfway back to the warehouse when I tripped over some jagged metal and cut my leg open. I cried out in pain, with tears filling my eyes I pushed myself up off the floor and started to hop. I turned to look behind me, I saw the zombies approaching fast.
“KELLIN,” I yelled. I saw him glance backwards. He stopped dead in his tracks and started running towards me.
“I’ve got you little sis.” He said while picking me up bridal style. He ran all the way back to the warehouse and up to the reinforced room. “Your safe now Flick. Your safe.” He said while grabbing a bandage and wrapping up my leg. “There, all done.” He said as he sat down next to me and wrapped his arms around me.
