In The End
You can't do this!
I saw the looks on everyone’s faces, everyone looked terrified.
“Why isn’t that good?” Andy asked. I could see him become nervous again.
“It’s about this time that the zombies are at their strongest.” I paused for a second; I could hear a low moaning sound coming from outside. “Shit Kellin, we need to hide.” I said while jumping to my feet. Everyone else jumped up and grabbed their blankets.
“We need to split up Flick. He paused only to hear the moaning get louder. “You take Andy and Ashley. I’ll take Jinxx, Jake and CC.”
“Ok, let’s go.” We walked over to a small storage room that was reinforced with metal walls and a metal door. When the three of us were in there I slid the door shut and locked it. It was very cramped. It only just fitted me and Kellin in it so needless to say it was very uncomfortable but at least it was safe. We all sat down on the floor with our blankets over the top of us.
“So how old are you Flick?” Andy asked. I was surprised at this question.
“I’m 19, turning 20 in 2 weeks.” I said with a small smile. “How old are you two?”
“Were both 20.” Ashley replied. He paused for a moment. “Where are your parents Flick?”
This question made a tear roll down my face, I quickly wiped it away. “I-I don’t know, they left one day and never came back. The only person I have left is Kellin. Andy shuffled his way over to me. He casually put his arm around me.
“Hey, it’s ok. Don’t cry.” He cooed.
“I just can’t bear to think that I could lose Kellin aswell.” I said with a shaky voice. I paused for a moment. I could still hear the loud moaning sounds coming from the zombies.
“Do you know when the zombies will go away?” Ashley asked, he was obviously trying to take my mind away from the loss of my parents.
“Anytime now I think.” I paused again I could hear the moans getting further and further away until I couldn’t hear them anymore.
“I can’t hear any moans.” Ashley said quietly while standing up. Both me and Andy stood up too. I carefully flicked open the peep hole on the door, there were no zombies in sight. I felt relived so I slowly slid the door open and walked out in to the warehouse. Andy and Ashley were close behind me.
“Kellin? Jinxx? Jake? CC?” I called; they were nowhere to be found. Then it hit me. I climbed the ladder that lead to the attic and walked over to a door. I knocked on it and sure enough Kellin opened it.
“You can come out now.” I said while hugging him tightly. I was so happy to see him. We all climbed down the ladder and sat on the floor.
“We need to gather some wood to start a fire.” Kellin said.
“I’ll go, you went last time.” I replied. I saw a worried look pass across Kellin’s face.
“I’ll go with her.” Andy said. He half smiled at me. We both got up and said goodbye to everyone because whenever you go out you don’t know if you’re going to come back. We walked out of the warehouse while checking that the coast was clear. It was.
“So where are we going?” Andy asked.
“To an office building, it’s only a 15 minute walk so we shouldn’t be gone too long.” I replied. I’ll be honest I was worried about going there again; I had almost got bitten the last time I went there. We arrived at the building to the sound of crying coming from inside. I put my hood up on my head and listened very closely.
“Hmm that’s odd, zombies don’t cry.” I said while turning to face Andy. I carefully pull open the door and see a young girl. She could only have been 7 years old.
“Oh my God.” I exclaimed, running over to her with Andy close behind me.
“I-I lost my mummy and daddy.” She said, tears running down her pale cheeks.
“What’s your name sweetheart? I asked as calmly as I could. I couldn’t believe it; she looked exactly like my niece.
“Sophia, my name is Sophia.” She replied. I look across at Andy; he saw that I had gone as white as a ghost.
“Ok Sophia, My name is Andy and this is Flick, were going to help you ok?”
“Flick? I had and auntie called Flick.” She said meekly. I saw Andy look at me with his mouth open in shock. I pulled my hood down so she could see my face. I saw little tears of joy form in her eyes. “AUNTIE FLICK!” she exclaimed while jumping on me. “I thought I had lost you. Where’s uncle Kellin?” She asked.
“He’s back at home Soph. We need to walk to get there.” I turned to Andy. “Screw the wood let’s just get back.”
“I agree, let’s go.” He replied. “Do you want me to carry her back, just in case we need to run?” He asked.
“Yeah, Ok.” I replied. He bent down and picked up Sophia. She held on to him tightly as we began the short walk back to the warehouse. We got back to the warehouse and pushed open the door. “Kellin?” I called. I saw his head pop up. “Guess who we found.”
“Who?” I saw his face twist in to confusion. I glance over to Andy who was still holding Sophia. He put her down.
“Uncle Kellin?” she said meekly.
“Soph?” His face lit up, knowing that Sophia was alive. She ran over to him and gave him a massive hug.
“I missed you so much Soph, we thought you were gone. He said with small tears forming in his eyes. I stood back with Andy; he wrapped his arm around my waist protectively. I couldn’t help but smile. It was the first time in a while that I had felt safe. That was until I saw something on Sophia’s arm.
“Soph what’s that on your arm?” I asked puzzled. She pulled up her sleeve revealing a bite mark.
“Oh no.” I saw Kellin take a step away from her. He looked mortified, his niece, my niece had been bitten by a zombie. She started crying.
“What are we going to do?” I whispered to Andy. I saw him look at Soph, then look at the ground.
“I don’t know.” He said. Kellin walked over to us. Suddenly Sophia started to change. She became a sickly green colour and started to moan.
“Shit” I heard Andy and Kellin mutter in unison. I saw Kellin pull out his gun.
“Kellin you can’t do that.” I yelled, tears now streaking my face.
“What other choice do we have Flick, it’s her or all of us.” He yelled back.
Andy embraced me in to a hug just as the shots were fired.
