The Prophet and his Prophetess

The Night At The Dining Hall

It was dark outside. I was tired even after eating dinner. I wanted to go to my bunk and sleep, but I couldn't. I had to clean the dining hall.
Being "babysat" by Prophet.
I grabbed a bucket filled with water and a rag to start washing the tables when I saw a shadow that seemed to be sitting next to me. I turned to my left to see Prophet lighting a cigarette.
"So, Katrina. How old are you?" He asked.
"Eighteen." I responded. I wasn't going into full detail about how I told mom I was joining the Wild Ones the day before my eighteenth birthday. That was none of his damn business.
"For an eighteen year old, you're pretty damn rebellious." He smirked as he put the cigarette in his mouth. "I would still consider you a child."
I rolled my eyes and continued cleaning the table.
"So Prophet is your name?" I asked.
"Yes."
"What mother would give a weird name like that?"
"She didn't. That's what I require everyone calling me. Instead of my real name."
"So what did your mother name you?"
"Maybe you should get back to work and mind your own business." He replied. He breathed on me, a bunch of the smoke from the cigarette he was inhaling hitting my face.
It had an interesting smell. It didn't bother me like I thought it would. But I continued cleaning the tables and chairs one by one.
By the time I was finished, Prophet had finished two more cigarettes. How the hell could he smoke that much?
"I'm done." I said.
Prophet stood up and walked towards me.
"Oh. Now you're going to follow me to my bunk?" I asked.
"No I'm making sure you don't sneak in my cabin again."
We walked out of the dining hall outside when I replied to his earlier remark with: "Your cabin was pretty cozy though. At least the sofa was."
"I don't mind people being there I just don't want people barging in without my permission."
I rolled my eyes as we got to the campsite where my bunk was in a tent.
"Andrew." Prophet said.
"What?" I asked.
"What you asked earlier, about what my mother named me. She named me Andrew, though she would prefer to call me Andy."
I chuckled. "Really?"
"Yeah. Don't even think of calling me Andrew. Or Andy."
"Goodnight, Andy." I smirked.
He looked at me and chuckled. "I guess you enjoy cleaning the dining hall."
"Fine. Goodnight, Prophet." I rolled my eyes and went into the large tent where my bunk would be.
Eve was at the top bunk fast asleep. Well at least with me having the bottom bunk I wouldn't wake her up.
I crawled under the covers of my bunk and chuckled before saying quietly to myself.
"Goodnight, Andy."
