Warped Tour

I barely kept sane through the last week of school had gone through without an incident, but I was still on edge. But now it was time for that to end. Mara and I were headed to the first concert of the tour. We were going to have the best summer of our lives before I headed off to college.

We had arrived just on time and had the privilege to meet our fellow assistant. That's apparently what we were. I had joined this job figuring we were just going to be selling the bands merchandise, but really we would just be doing any little task someone in the band needed done. Anyways, back to our fellow assistant. Her name was Brianna Giannini, or Bri. She was about 5'6” with long straight black hair and piercing gray eyes. She seemed rather outgoing and nice. I suppose she seemed rather nice.

We got there and were instructed to put all of our bags in the cargo holder of the tour bus. I had thought we were going to be in some shady van traveling behind the tour bus. There were two pull out couches on the front of the tour bus that we were sleeping on apparently. What if I snored and kept everyone up all night though? I didn't want them to think I was some weirdo. But I didn't have enough time to dwell on it before we were moving to the next part of our little tour.

~*~*~

I was organizing my bags I hadn't had time to mess with earlier on the bus when the door opened.

“I'm telling you, man! What you need to do is party with us tonight, find a girl and just nail her!” My eyes widened masculinely. I turned to see Andy walking in, and Ashley walking in behind him, waving his hands dramatically.

“Dude. Tonight I just need to stay in here and drink. Give me like a day to get over it, at least,” Andy replied.

“You broke up with her,”

“Hey! Girl near the couch! Do you think I am entitled to a day of being on my own after I broke up with my girlfriend?”

Oh shit. Andy was talking to me. Asking me about his break up? Wait. He broke up with Juliet? Shit, Darlene, answer the man! “Um, yeah I guess everyone is entitled to their own amount of time after a break up, regardless of who did the breaking up.”

“Thank you! By the way, who the fuck are you? No offense.”

“Um, Darlene. I'm one of the new assistants.” Dammit. Stop saying, 'um.'

“Have I met you before? You seem kinda familiar.”

“Well I got one of those VIP tickets and got to meet you guys.”

“Oh, right! I remember! It was your birthday, right?”

“Um, yes actually.”

Ashley chose this moment to interject, “You had the hot friend who decided to sneak back in the line again, right?”

“Yup. She's here too actually.”

“Cool,” Ashley said.

“Well I guess we better start getting ready for the show. Nice meeting you Darlene,” Andy said.

“Bye.”

Once they had headed to get ready, I quickly changed into something more comfortable for the hot weather. I was wearing my white BVB tank and some black shorts. I slipped on my black Van's, grabbed my hat and sunglasses, then my bag and headed out the door. It was time to do some assisting... after I found Mara.

~*~*~

Most of the performances were over for the night, and most of the bands had gotten together. Warped tour had officially begun.

Mara kept trying to drag me into the center of the party, but given the fact that she had already had a few drink, I could easily overpower her. After the incident I had taken self-defense classes, so I probably could have gotten away from her even if she was sober.

I was sitting on a log at the edge of the party, leaning back and staring at the stars, when I noticed the little bit of light I had seen earlier was being blocked by a figure. I looked towards the figure to see Mara, shocker.

"Come on, Dar! Relax! It's summer!" she said as she grabbed my hand and tugged on it.

"Mara, maybe some other time. Right now though, I would like to just sit here and contemplate life," that was my standard answer when I just wanted to be on my own.

"Fine. I'll come try again later," she said as she stumbled off. I dont think that is going to happen though. As she was walking through the crowd she stumbled into Ashley. She had a huge celebrity crush on him. He would probably like her too. She was beautiful and confident and amazing. I just hope that if things do happen between them, it won't make the rest of the tour awkward. A moment later they walk out of my line of sight, so I go back to staring at the sky.

A few minutes later a figure casts a shadow over me.

"Mara. I told you. Not now, just let me be a lonely bitch on my own," I say not even looking up. I had thought she was with Ashley, but apparently not.

"Mind if I join?" asks a deep voice. I jerk my head up to see Andy.

"Um, sure."

He sits down next to me and pulls something out of his pocket. He flips it towards me, revealing a box of cigarettes, "Cigarette?"

"Ah, no. I don't smoke."

"I'll keep that in mind. So. Why are you a lonely bitch?" he asked.

"I just prefer it that way. So why aren't you out partying? I mean I know you want a night to just be single an all that, but that doesn't mean you can't party."

"If rather not have girls throwing themselves at me. Not to seem like an conceited ass, but they do."

"That's just speaking the truth. But how do you know I won't throw myself at you?"

"Well. You probably would have done it."

"True. So, if you don't mind me asking, why did you break up with Juliet."

"I suppose I might as well tell you, otherwise you might hear some lie on the internet. But basically she just became to dependent and needy and didn't want to do anything on her own. I figured she would just do better on her own."

"Makes sense," I replied.

"Hey, I'm gonna grab a drink real quick. You want something?"

"Water would be nice."

"What, you don't drink either?"

"Well, I'm underage."

"I won't tell on you. I did it when I was younger."

"I have other reasons."

"To each his own I guess," he said as he walked towards the kegs and coolers. He was sitting next to me a minute later. "So, Darlene, I'm assuming since you know something about me, and that puts me at an unfair advantage. So. Tell me about yourself."

"Why do you just assume I know you're lid story?"

"Well, I never said life story, but beings as you bought a VIP ticket, I assume you know more about me than I know about you."

"Fair enough. Well…" I continue to tell him about how I grew up with my mom. How Ihad a scholarship to the greatest college in my state. Nothing much, I don't want him to think I'm to much of a freak.

"What do you plan to major in?"

"I was thinking business management. I hear it's a good field to go into."

"I hear it's boring."

"Well not everyone has the luxury to be a rock star."

"I understand that. What I'm saying is you shouldn't get some job for the money or the social status you may receive."

"Well, what happens when I have to pay the bills?"

"You're not understanding me. I know not everyone can do what they absolutely love, but not everyone should have to do what they hate. Don't do something that makes you miserable. There are so many job opportunities."

"Well I have plenty of time to decide."

"True." he says, then noticing my unspoken want to change the subject he does, "So, how did you discover us?"

"I was going through a rough time when Mara introduced you to me. Saviour really helped me. I've been kinda addicted to it ever since."

Thankfully he doesn't ask what was going on in my life at the time. "Well, that's good. Glad we could help."

We continue to talk for another hour or so, and eventually find myself nodding off while Andy is talking about Batman. I open my eyes again as I feel something shake through my body. I open my eyes to realize Andy is carrying me bridal style through the front of the tour bus. He must have tripped over one of the stairs.

"What?" I ask groggily.

"Shh. Everyone is asleep. You were too. I'm just going to set you next to Mara on the couch," he says as he sets me on the couch bed. He slips off my sneakers.

"I can-" I try to resist, but I am interrupted by a yawn. He slowly pushes my shoulders onto the bed gently, and pulls the blanket over my shoulders.

"Thanks," I murmur as I burrow into the blanket.

"You're welcome. Good night Darlene," he says as he heads back to his own bunk.

Notes

Sorry it's been so long since I updated! But shit happens. So finally some Black Veil Brides (other than that bit that was in chapter two), and I plan to bring in everyone else in the next chapter. But tell me what you think! Hope you enjoyed the longer chapter!
There's a link to her outfit in the story, but in case you don't want to scroll back and find it, click here.

I really like this story so far. Though I have seen several others take the whole "merch girl" angle in their stories, most of the protagonists have been solely motivated by getting to know their idols or their crushes in the band. Most protagonists also have a similar tortured past to Darlene, but instead of letting her rape consume her and overtake her life, she decided to get help and prove everyone wrong. Darlene is using her weakness and letting it become a strength, and it was a nice change to see that she was a bit reluctant to go on tour with her favorite band at first. You have done a fantastic job with this story so far, and I can't wait to see your future updates. Keep up the outstanding work!
