The Metalheads

Bad Things Happen to Good People

As both armies collided, an eerie feeling swept the county as its people went to war. Screams and battle cries could be heard from miles away. I was a little surprised to see that we were actually ahead. My people were amazing fighters, and they were taking out guards left and right.

President Black, Brody, and Mr. Carmichael stood atop the truck as their guards and their people battled against mine. I smiled, knowing who my targets were. As they watched their guards being taken out, I snuck up behind the truck with my dagger in hand. I peered inside. My father was sitting inside with his head in his hands. He was mumbling something to himself, but I couldn't understand it. He seemed ashamed or upset. I decided not to mess with him. I continued on my way, making sure the men above me didn't see me.

Without looking back, I slashed all 4 tires of the truck, sending them off and down. All 3 scrambled to their feet and charged me with guns in hand. My dad went flying out of the side. He picked himself up and ran towards the fighting crowd. I ran in the other direction, knowing they would follow me. I jumped and climbed into the nearest tree, trying to avoid the shots being fired at me.

"This isn't over, girl!" President Black screeched. I climbed further up and in the tree. I laughed to myself. This was kind of fun. I had always loved the way adrenaline rushes made me feel.

"What are you just standing there for?" President Black asked Brody. "Go and get her!"

He obeyed, lifting his strong large body up into the tree, struggling a little. I kept moving, hoping he wasn't fast enough to catch me. As he chased me through the tree, I could feel him getting closer, knowing I was done if he caught me. I was about to jump out of the tree to escape him when I slipped instead, tumbling to the ground. I landed with a thud and a groan.

Before I could get up, a giant weight pounced on me, temporarily paralyzing me. My vision blurred as he lifted himself off me, smiling. An idea popped into my head. I closed my eyes, held my breath, and made my body go limp. Brody looked down at me, nudging me with his foot. President Black and Mr. Carmichael joined him.

"I think she's dead," he said, proud of himself. Mr. Carmichael patted his son on the back as the 3 of them walked away.

"Now we must find her friends and finish this war," said President Black with an evil grin.

Once they were far enough away, I jumped up, regaining my strength and brushing myself off. My plan had worked. Now I had to get to them before they got to the people I cared about most.

"Just stay in here guys, we should be safe in here," Ashley ushered the Biersack family into the lab, closing the secret door behind them.

"What is this place?" Amy asked, taking a seat by the computer. Ashley and Chris placed Andy on the desk for examination.

"This is the lab we have been working in. Katherine's dad used to do stuff in here, before he betrayed his own people..." his voice trailed off. His mind wandered back to the day when we found out that my dad had been working for President Black.

"We found out he was working for the dictator when he had captured us one day. He let that horrible man tie us up and beat Kat in front of our eyes. None of us have forgiven him."

Andy began to mumble as his dad helped him drink some water.

Ashley turned to him. "What did you say?"

"K-Kat, I need to h-help her," he stuttered, trying to sit up. Chris pushed him back down.

"She's fine, Andy. You need to stay here and regain your strength. You can't go out there just to get hurt even more." Andy sighed.

"You're right," he ran a hand through his hair. "I just don't want anything to happen to her. She's my best friend." The four of them sat in silence, hoping that the war would be over soon, and that something better would come out of it.

I stopped to catch my breath near the front of my neighborhood. I panted and rested my hands on my knees. I had to get to Andy and Ashley before they did. Realizing that I was running out of time, I started sprinting again towards my house. Relieved to finally reach my destination, I knocked on the secret door.

"Who is it?" I heard Ashley ask.

"Ash, it's me. Is everyone okay?" I asked, hoping I had beat my enemies to them. There was a long pause, and then he answered.

"We're all fine, just come in," he said. I raised my eyebrow, feeling suspicious. I slowly opened the door and crept down the stairs. Preparing for the worst, I drew my dagger. I reached the bottom of the stairs to see my four friends tied up together by Brody and his dad and President Black holding guns to their heads.

"Hello dear, nice to see you again," he smirked. I could do nothing but glare at him.

"Why can't you just leave us alone?" I asked angrily. Brody started towards me, but the dictator motioned him to stop.

"Why can't you know your role in society? Why can't you do what is asked of you, instead of rebelling against your government?" he asked, stepping towards me.

"Because our government is corrupt and I will not let a nefarious population control me or any of my people any longer," I spat. He laughed.

"Corrupt? You think we are corrupt?" He continued to laugh excessively. He laughed until he doubled over, wiping away tears. The 5 of us exchanged uncomfortable glances. What was wrong with this guy? I shook my head.

"What do you want, Black? Why do you go through this much trouble to torment us?" He sighed.

"Oh darling, I'm afraid you'll never learn." I just stared at him, confused. What was he talking about?

Without explaining or even saying another word, the 3 enemies locked eyes, dropped everything and filed out of my house. It was as if a bell rang in their heads, calling them somewhere else than where they were. I rushed over to untie my friends, still in shock from the strange things that just happened.

"What was that all about?" Ashley asked. The rest of us just shrugged. We all stood in silence, trying to figure out what to do next, when I remembered a critical detail that we had all forgotten about.

"The stadium," I blurted, rushing outside without an explanation. Without asking, they all followed.

"What?" Andy asked.

"The stadium. The guards are going to lead our army to the stadium. Remember they planted explosives in the cement they built it with? They're going to lead them there, then blow them all sky high."
