The Metalheads

Attacked Again

I woke up to the sound of a beeping heart monitor and the bustle of nurses around me. Andy and Ashley sat next to my hospital bed, most likely waiting for me to wake up. I wondered how long I had been out.

"Oh, Katherine, thank god," Andy said once he noticed I was awake.

He grabbed my hand and kissed it, putting to his face. Ashley noticed too, and moved his chair closer to the bed.

"Kat, oh, I'm so glad you're okay," he said, breathing a sigh of relief.

I looked closer at Andy, and noticed his eyes were red and puffy. I couldn't imagine how worried he was. I must have scared them both to death.

"I'm fine you guys, at least I am now," I reassured them.

"But, what exactly happened? I don't really remember anything," I laughed.

"You jumped in between me and the bullet..." his voice trailed off.

I leaned over, kissed his cheek, and smiled at him, to make sure he knew I was fine. He smiled back. I didn't want to bring back too many ugly memories.

"I'm gonna go find the doctor to see how much longer you need to stay here," he announced, leaving the room.

I sat up in the hospital bed, and thought to myself. If we didn't catch President Black and my dad, then they were still out there somewhere. If we didn't stop them, they could kill someone else.

That's when I knew I needed to get out of there as soon as possible, but I knew I couldn't.

Andy came back a few minutes later with a doctor.

"Okay, sweetheart, let me look at your monitors to see how you're doing," he said, setting his clipboard down on the table.

As he got closer, I noticed that something was strange about him. I exchanged glances with the guys, and they knew something was up too.

He tinkered with the monitors and other machines, then turned to look at us. He grabbed his clipboard to partially hide his face, but there was no need.

"You're the guy that tried to kill us at the pizza place!" Ashley noticed.

He looked up from his clipboard in shock. Ash was right, this man had one blue eye and one brown eye, just like the waiter.

I quickly began yanking all of the chords and wires from my body, knocking over a few things at the same time. I didn't care.

"Run!" I screamed at the guys. In the blink of an eye, the 3 of us were gone, sprinting down the hallway, not bothering to look back. A nurse at the front desk stared up at us in concern.

"Sorry," I said to her. "I'm checking out early."

We crammed into the elevator and pushed the lobby button. I could sense that he wasn't far behind us. The elevator couldn't move fast enough.

"Come on," Andy whispered impatiently. As the elevator passed each floor, I could feel him getting closer and closer. The adrenaline was flooding through me. We had to move faster than this if we wanted to get away from him.

The elevator finally landed on the first floor, and we practically pushed the doors open to get out. I looked back for a split second, and he was only about 15 feet behind us. How had he caught up so fast?

"Go! Keep Going!" I screamed, running out into the street, avoiding honking cars and staring eyes. I should've known he would have found us again.

We ran for blocks on end, until we finally reached the border. I looked back, and saw no one.

"We must have lost him," Ashley said.

We all struggled to catch our breath. Our problem now was that we needed to figure out a way to get across the border again. I noticed that Ashley was carrying a backpack. Weird. I didn't think he had one before.

"Ash? What's in the bag?" I asked, pointing to the bag on his back. He took it off his shoulder and handed it to me.

"Oh, it's your stuff. I didn't want you to leave your clothes there or anything, so I packed them up."

I smiled, grateful that he was thinking ahead. I thanked him, and took the bag from him. I pulled out my dagger, and held it in my hand, just in case i needed it. I only had time to put it on my own back before the doctor had caught up to us. I had to think fast. I looked up at the trees around us, and got an idea.

I began to climb the closest tree, calling to the guys to follow me. They did, and we quickly made our way through the branches. The doctor followed us, nearly slipping off a few times.

"You can't run from me, you bastard children," he hissed.

As I climbed, I knew he would catch us if I didn't do something. Without thinking, I reached backwards and slashed into his arm with my dagger, sending him sailing towards the ground.

I followed the guys and scrambled out of the tree. We jumped down, panting, making sure he wasn't still behind us.

"Where did he go?" Andy asked.

I looked back behind me at his limp body that had fallen to the ground. He wasn't dead, but was definitely injured. That should keep him away for a while, I thought.

"He's gone, we just need to get back home," I told them, directing them away from the border and towards home.

We had to figure out our next move. It was only a matter of time before they would catch up to us again.

"So what now?" Ashley asked, stepping through my front door. I walked in the kitchen and set the backpack down, pulling out my clothes.

"I don't know, I'll have to think about it," I replied, going upstairs to change.

I stepped into my room and sighed, pulling off the hospital gown. We had an entire group of people after us now, and there was no way we could defeat all of them alone. We needed help, and lots of it.

As I was pulling on my shirt, Andy walked in, and knocked on my door, even though it was already open.

"Can I come in?" he asked, smirking.

I laughed. "You might as well, you're already half way there."

He came up behind me and wrapped his skinny arms around my torso, and put his head on my shoulder. I couldn't help but smile.

"You're really tough, you know that?" he said, tilting his head to look up at me. "If I was in your situation, I probably would've died."

I gazed back at him, and he squeezed me before leaning in for a kiss. When he pulled away, my heart skipped a beat. He was irrestistible.
\
"Well, I almost did," I replied, laughing.

He grabbed the sides of my face and pulled me into another kiss. I couldn't think about anything else at that moment but him. Our lips molded together like 2 perfect puzzle pieces. I didn't want him to let go. When he pulled away, he didn't walk away. He just held me for a few minutes, squeezing me tight.

"I'm glad I stayed with you. I almost watched you disappear before my eyes. I'm so glad I could save you," he said, squeezing me tighter.

I was glad he could save me too. I couldn't thank them enough for staying with me. They were in just as much danger as I was, yet they stayed. I loved them both more than anything, because they were all I had left.
