The Metalheads

Betrayal

I woke up in what seemed to be a medieval-looking prison cell. I was even restrained by chains attached to the wall, on both my arms and legs.

Fantastic. Prison, again.

I suddenly remembered that I had been shot, and looked down at my torso to find that the wound had been stitched up and patched up. At least I'm not bleeding to death right now.
The cell itself was quite small, with only one torch to light up the entire room. Anyone, or anything could be hiding in here along with me, waiting to devour what was left of my soul. Turns out, I was right.

"Don't bother trying to escape darling, you can't," a familiar voice cut through the darkness.

President Black stepped into view, carrying a large torch of his own. Even in the dim light, I could tell he was grinning from ear to ear. This is probably exactly what he wanted.

"Where's Andy and Ashley? What have you done with them?" I growled, pulling on my chains.

I tested how strong they were. They wouldn't even budge. This would be a lot harder than I thought.

He smirked, lighting a few more torches that I didn't know were there.

"Don't worry, darling. They're doing just fine."

I clenched my teeth, narrowing my eyes at him. "Where are they?!" My voice echoed through the damp cell, bouncing off every surface in the room.

He nearly jumped, walking over to the far wall, and pulled a rope hanging from the ceiling, also something I didn't see.

"I told you, they're safe."

The wall collapsed before me to reveal two familiar men chained up, just like me. Only they were practically dangling over a dark pit, with only a small shaky platform to stand on.

I rammed my fist as hard as I could into the ground out of anger. Pain spread through my hand and wrist, but I ignored it.

"Let them go!"

President Black slipped up behind me, getting in my face.

"Why should I? They deserve to be locked up just as much as you do," he whispered with a smile.

"Now, darling. Why is it that you were put in Metal county in the first place? Hmm?"

I stopped raging. I stared at the ground in deep thought. Why was I put there?

"I was born there," I reminded him.

He smirked. "But why were you born there?"

I didn't know. I just assumed that's how things were. Did he know something I didn't?

"Darling, you were born there because your mother and father were put there when you were just a baby," he explained. "My officers wanted to kill them, but I ordered them not to."

He looked at the round, sighed, then looked back at me. "I knew I should have killed you when I had the chance."

I looked at him, confused. "Umm, you've had many chances. You've failed every time."

He then slapped me across my face in fury, leaving my cheek burning red.

"You will pay for that. And you will pay for everything else you have done to me, you wretched girl."

With that, he disappeared, then reappeared with a large knife.

"Now, if you cooperate, I won't kill them. If you don't, well I think you know this by now."

He brought in a chair and sat down next to me, holding my chin in his palm.

"Why do you think your parents were put in Metal county in the first place, darling?"

He put the knife to my face, ignoring the muffled screams coming from the guys behind him.

"They were put there because your father did the same thing you're doing. He tried to kick me out, and to return corruption to my people. Which is exactly what you're doing."

My eyes widened. "Corruption? You think we are the ones who are corrupt?"

Before I could say another word, he made a small slice into the skin on my cheek, carving it slowly.

Pain shot through my face. I could feel the first drop of blood escape from my body.

"You have no right to talk, little girl," he spat.

He began to carve another line into my face, until another man opened a door that I couldn't see, and rushed in to President Black.

"Sir, I am here," the man said, glancing down at me.

I gasped, realizing who the man was.

"Dad? What? How?"

When he was captured years ago, they must have brainwashed him. He'd been hiding it from me for so long.

"Hi sweetie. Are you happy to see me?" he smiled.

My eyes widened in shock. How was this possible? How could my only parent left betray me like that?

"Dad...why?" I asked, looking up at him with sad eyes.

He sat down next to me, replacing President Black. "I found out what I really believed in, sweetie. I realized that I had been wrong my whole life. This is the way to live," he explained.

"How could you do this to me? You're the only parent I have left..." my voice trailed off as memories of my mom flooded back to me.

He had told me that mom had died of cancer soon after I was born. That was probably a lie, too.
"Did you kill mom too? Was that part of your big realization?" I asked.

He then punched me in the nose. "How dare you ask me such a question? You stupid bitch. You just don't know when to keep your mouth shut, do you?"

His voice echoed through my head, making it spin.

"You know what? I'm glad you ended up here. I didn't want to have to deal with your weird ass anymore."

His words cut through me like the knife that had been used to slash my face. Razor sharp.

He then picked up one of my arms, and pushed up the sleeve.

"And what's this?" he asked, examining the scars on my wrist.

He smiled, and I knew then exactly what he was going to do. He took the knife and started to reopen the cuts. I winced and screamed at each one.

"This is what you get for being stupid. This is what you get for being ignorant and betraying my new faith."

He kept slicing, watching the blood drip from my limp arms. I couldn't help but cry out in pain. He ran out of scars to trace, but kept slicing my arm anyway.

"Stop! Don't do this! Stop it!"

No one seemed to hear my screams. It felt like I was already buried 6 feet under, with the blood draining from me. I knew this was the end. I could almost hear a siren go off in my head. He continued to slice into my skin, criticizing me with each slice.

I thought I was really gone this time, until he suddenly stopped. He stepped back, and gazed down in shock.

That's when I heard Andy and Ashley's screams. They had gotten rid of the cloths that muffled their voices before, and now they could be heard loud and clear.

"Stop! Drop that knife now!" Andy bellowed over the siren in my head.

Everything began to blur, and I could feel my entire body growing weak from blood loss.

Ashley, somehow, managed to untie himself, untied Andy, then took a huge leap over the pit.

"Get away from her," he growled. Andy soon joined him, and stood at his side.

My dad let go of the knife in his hand, letting it fall to the floor, then bolted out the door he came in.

I tried to reach out to them, but couldn't find my voice.

"A-Andy..." I breathed. He sent Ashley to find my dad, while he stayed behind with me.

"Kat, oh my god..." he picked up my arm, examining the damage that had been done. He tried to pick me up, realizing I was still chained to the ground.

"Andy..." I whispered, trying to stay awake.

"I know, I know baby, I'm working on it," he replied.

He scrambled around, trying to find something stronger to cut the chains with.

"No, Andy..." I began.

"I'm gonna help you baby, I promise," he panted.

I sat up the best I could. "Andy, I can...break the chains. Just...just pull me away from the wall,"

He looked down at me, and knelt by my side. "Babe, there's no way you can break these. They're stronger than both of us combined."

He stood up. "Baby please," I begged him.

He looked at me, somewhat shocked. I realized why: I had never called him baby either until now. He gave in.

He picked me up as much as he could, and pulled me away from the wall, like I told him to. Using all of the strength I had left, I pulled on the chains as hard as I could, crying out as I did. One of the weak chain links snapped, pushing us backwards.

Andy jumped up in excitement.

"Oh my god, babe you did it!" he exclaimed, picking me up and hugging me.

I had seemed to regain all of my energy and strength. "Babe, they're still out there, we have to stop them," I said in his ear, wrapping my arms around him.

He looked at me and smiled. "I know, but you deserve this first."

Before I could object, he kissed me passionately, despite the fact that the two people that tried to kill us were on the loose. His hands snaked up and down my torso. We didn't want to let go, but we knew we had to.

Carrying me on his back, Andy dashed out of the cell, trying to figure out which way they went. He chose a path and took it, travelling down an even darker hallway, calling Ashley's name.

"Ash? Ash! Where are you?" we called.

Our voices only echoed through the dark passageway, and no one responded. I heard muffled sounds in the distance, and weakly pointed in the direction they were coming from.

"Go that way," I told Andy.

We followed the noise until we reached the end of the hallway. Ashley was waiting for us there. I jumped down off of Andy's back and Ashley rushed to hug me, careful not to touch my arm.

"Oh my god, you're still alive," he said, sighing with relief. I squeezed him back, happy that he was still alive too.

"Where did they go?" Andy asked.

Ashley pulled away, then pointed to the open room behind him.

"I'm not sure exactly, but I think they went that way. Or at least her dad did. I don't know where the president guy went."

We all ran in that direction. I looked down at my slashed arm, surprised that the blood had dried that fast, and that I was somehow still alive. It was like the world wanted me to survive.

We neared the end of the tunnel we were following, and it spit us back out into President Black's office.

"He could be anywhere in this building, we have to be careful," I reminded them.

Andy got an idea. "We should probably go search around, to make sure he's not waiting to jump out at you."

I looked up at him in shock. "Are you crazy? They'll kill you both, the first chance they get," I replied.

He gave me a look that said, Katherine, it's for your own good. I nodded, letting them go.

"Please be careful," I called to them as they slipped away.

While they were gone, I decided it was a good idea to look around, and see if there was anything worth keeping.

My eyes landed back on the large jugs pushed against the wall. Lucky for me, one had been knocked over, its contents still wet enough for me to smell them. I knelt down beside the puddle and took a whiff.

Is this blood?

I stood back up, my brow furrowed in confusion. Why does he have at least a dozen jugs of blood in his office?

I continued to look around, focusing on his desk. I leafed through the papers, finding nothing important. The computer to my right seemed to have been left on.

I opened his documents and clicked through, my eyes scanning for anything that stood out. They landed on one file that was entitled "Stadium Blueprint". My instincts told me this was important, so I opened the file.

It was, in fact, a blueprint. It seemed to be a stadium that hadn't been built yet. Then, I recognized the stadium. It was in progress of being built, on the other side of Metal county.

I looked closer at the blueprint. There were small symbols around the edge of the stadium. I couldn't figure out what they stood for. I would definitely have to show this to the guys when they got back.

As if they read my mind, Andley walked in simultaneously, and asked me what I had found. I showed them the computer screen and the jugs of blood.

"But, I couldn't figure out what these meant," I said, pointing out the strange symbols.

They both examined it for a few minutes, while I examined my arm again. I didn't understand how it was possible that I was still alive after what happened. I had been shot, and I had nearly bled to death at least twice.

Ashley interrupted her thoughts. "Guys, these are symbols of explosives..."

I sat down in the chair in shock. Was President Black going to blow up the new stadium?

"He's gonna blow up the stadium while people are in it," Andy realized. "There's gonna be a huge meeting or something with him and the people of Metal county..." his voice trailed off.

The thought of him killing that many people at once, and even himself, was sickening. I knew I couldn't let this happen. He couldn't get away with this, too.

"We have to go," I told them, quickly printing out a copy of the blueprint.

We all headed for the hole where we came in. Andy climbed up first, and helped me up into the ceiling, with Ashley following close behind. We left the way we came, unaware of how long we had actually been there.

When we broke through the roof into open air the sun was peeking up through the horizon.

"My mom is probably freaking out right now," Andy said, face-palming himself.

I put my hand on his shoulder. "It's okay, once we tell her what we happened, she'll understand."

He smiled at me, but I had to look away. The pain was returning to my arm, and I couldn't help but wince. I started to scream, and I nearly fell over.

"Ash, grab the keys, we need to take her to the hospital," Andy called to Ashley, then rushed over to pick me back up.

I could feel myself losing consciousness, but at the same time, I felt nothing at all. It was like after a few seconds, the pain was so bad it became numb. My entire world became like a snow globe. I was standing still, but everything else around me was moving. I was stuck in time, but my time was running out fast.

"Stay with me baby, we'll be there soon, I promise," I heard Andy say.

Everything was becoming more and more of a blur as time went by. Time was ticking by slower and slower, until Andy's voice finally faded out and everything turned to black once again.
