Far And Away.

The Difference

Flora smirked as she looked around the cafeteria-where to sit today? There were so many options-queue the massive eye roll. Most of the time Flora ate in the Library where she would sit in her usual corner with either her notebook spread out in front of her or a book shoved halfway up her nose. Sadly the Library was closed due to construction and so she was being forced out of her paradise. Now she had her packed lunch-school lunch was terrible-in one hand and her notebook in the other and Flora was slightly intimidated. There weren't a lot of open tables and as she scanned the room Flora saw that Queen Constance was holding court in the very center of the room. The two girls locked eyes and Flora only rolled hers more as she spun on her heel and almost smacked right into someone.

Grey t-shirt, skinny jeans, leather jacket and long hair hanging over one gorgeous blue eye-Andy. Perfect, as if he didn't think she was enough of a loser because of her music choices he would now see that she had absolutely no friends. Flora didn't really want friends-they only complicated things and very often stabbed you in the back...or left you when they got boobs and joined a team of Hell Spawn. Flora only laughed nervously as she tucked some of her hair behind one ear, barely made eye contact with the guy in front of her and tried to pass by him. She would just go and sit out front of the cafeteria where the other losers and outcasts would congregate. Before she knew it Flora felt someone grabbing her arm and as she spun around her eyes met his.

"Where are you going Flora?" Andy asked, his voice deep and it almost sounded like he had just woken from a nap. Knowing him he probably had...

"I don't belong in here...I'm going to sit outside with the rest of the official loser club." She smirked at him and Andy only shook her head as he held on to her arm and guided her over towards the right side of the cafeteria.

"You don't belong out there with them either...come on..." He winked one blue eye at her and Flora felt herself blush. What was it about this guy? She only shook her head as she followed him and soon enough he was leading her up a set of stairs. Flora had never been up here before and as she looked at the door in front of her, she knew why.

Roof Access

"An-Andy...we aren't allowed up here..." She whispered at him, scared that they were going to get caught. Flora didn't need any more trouble today-especially not from administration.

"Something tells me you aren't much of a rule follower Flora." He smirked at her as he jiggled the handle and the door suddenly popped open. Her eyes took a moment to adjust, but as the sun kissed her skin, Flora found herself smiling.

They rarely got to see the sun and since Flora was a Senior she no longer had to participate in P.E classes and so she only saw the sun on her way to school and on the way home. It felt good sitting up here with Andy, the two of them sitting side by side as their legs dangled over the back side of the school. Silently Flora pulled her sandwich out of her lunch bag, broke the PB&J in half and handed one half to Andy before biting in to her own. He took the sandwich from her with a raised eyebrow and only smirked before taking his own bite. It was weird-she didn't really like Andy all that much, mostly because he rubbed her the wrong way, but he was kind of growing on her. The two ate in silence, just enjoying the sunshine, but soon enough the bell began to ring. Flora moved to get up, but Andy just stayed sitting and continued to stare at her with those intimidating blue eyes.

"Where are you going?" He asked and Flora only smiled, tucking a piece of hair behind her ear as she started to gather her things. She didn't really want to go to class, but thoughts of California and getting her writing job kept dancing in the back of her head.

"Class." She said simply before trying to stand up, but Andy only reached out and placed a hand on her arm. She looked at him, her eyes locking with his and Flora suddenly felt breathless. This guy was kind of pushy, but God did his lips look kissable right now.

"Fuck class-chill with me up here for a period or two..." His smirk was contagious, but the thought of missing class made Flora cringe. She didn't want to just be another loser who stayed in her home town-she had plans for herself...dreams.

"Sorry-can't." She said softly as she tried to remove her arm from his grip but Andy wasn't letting up. He just cocked his head to one side and stared at her.

"Why not? Come on Flora...missing one class isn't going to hurt anything..." He laughed, but his laughter died as Flora ripped her arm out of his hand and Andy knew that she wasn't joking.

"Yeah it kind of is Andy. Look, I don't know what your plans are for after high school, but I'm not going to be some loser who gets stuck in this shit town because I was more worried about looking cool and skipping...I have plans for myself." She said as she slung her bag over one shoulder and looked down at Andy. He looked-hurt?

"Are you saying I'm a loser for wanting to hang out with you and get to know you?" His tone was like poison and she could feel it begin to seep in to her veins. Great-she didn't fucking need this.

"I just have plans for myself Andy, that's all. I don't want to hang around this town like you do...I want to get out of here."

"Fuck you." He hissed at her and his blue eyes had grown darker and there was a hatred in them now. Flora only sighed as her shoulder slumped and she just shook her head-he was always so angry with her...maybe he was angry with himself.

"I'm sorry Andy..." She said softly as she turned around and Flora could still hear him cursing her name as she let the heavy door slam shut behind her.

She had a future and a plan...but it didn't seem like Andy really cared about any of that.

Notes

Comments

I hate the fact that Flora let her dad get in her head. Had it not been for him, I'm sure she would be going to California with the band right now. Ohio State really isn't a big deal as far as schools go, and the school in California is just as prestigious (if not more so). Even from a more logical and practical standpoint, it does not seem like Flora is making a good choice.
