Batman Cupcakes?

"I just think maybe you were too hard on him.." Flora rolled her eyes at her mother, and continued pushing her vegetables around her plate.

"Do you know what he called me today?" She raised her eyebrow.

"What did he call you?" Donna sighed.

"A bitch." Flora shook her head, and dropped her fork. It hit with a clamour against the designed plate. Her mother always-being the artistic women she was-painted their plates to class them up a bit.

"Well why did he do that?" Donna bit her lip. Flora is a smart girl, but sometimes the way she speaks can come across as arrogant.

"I..might have made fun of him for the whole school thing..." Flora chuckled to herself. She had decided earlier she was not going to tell her mother about Constance. Flora had a habit of not wanting to worry her mother. Ever since her dad walked out, she's been under a lot of stress, and Flora hated the idea of adding to it.

"Oh Flora, I knew shouldn't have told you that!" Donna exclaimed.

"Mom, he was already being an asshole before! I just used it against him.." Flora took a sip of her tea, as her mother stood up. Donna couldn't help but wonder why Andy and Flora hated each other as much as they did. They seemed so much alike..

"I don't know, Hun, maybe you should just try to be friends with him." She shrugged. "I made cupcakes, want one?" Donna asked, changing subject.

"Uh yes." Flora chuckled, her mothers cooking was the best. Donna brought her a chocolate cupcake with a candied Batman symbol on top.

Flora gasped and looked up at her, "How did you know?"

"Because I know you." Donna smiled, "Why don't you go over to the Biersacks, and give Andy one?"

"Not a chance!" Flora said, standing up, and walking in to her room. Donna shook her head, and walked back into the kitchen. She placed three cupcakes on a paper plate-not wanting to use her good plates-and put some plastic wrap over top of them all, careful not to mess up the intricate icing.

She walked out of the apartment, and knocked on the door next to hers. There was some shuffling around on the other side, and suddenly the door opened. It was Andy, and he was looking at Donna in shock.

Had Flora told on him?

"Oh hello Andy." Donna smiled warmly.

"Uh hey." Andy swallowed hard. She saw Chris sitting in the living room, reading the newspaper.

"I made Flora and I cupcakes, and we don't need them all, so I thought I'd bring you all some." Donna handed Andy the cupcakes.

"Wow, thank you." Andy said, suprised. Most of their neighbors in their previous homes hated them. Andy played his music loud, and usually his parents did too, what with them having similar taste in it.

"Its nothing, we don't need them anyways, I make enough sweets." Donna chuckled. Andy looked down to see a Batman symbol in the center of the cupcakes.

"I love Batman." He shook his head, smiling.

"Batman is Flora's favorite super hero. She has almost every comic. I give them to her for every holiday." Donna smiled in contentness. Her daughter was her greatest achievement.

Andy felt his heart lighten at the idea of Flora sitting on her bed, reading a comic book intently, listening to Alkaline Trio. "Well thanks a lot." Andy nodded, as Donna smiled, and started to walk back into her apartment.

"Wait, Donna?" Andy called after her.

"Yes?"

"Would you tell Flora that I'm sorry for what I said today?" Andy bit his lip ring, feeling the cool metal dig into his soft lips. Donna smiled at him over her shoulder.

"Of course." She said, walking back inside of her apartment. Andy did the same, and sat the cupcakes on his counter. He didn't bother eating one-he'd lost his appetite.

"Who was that son?" Andy's mother walked up to him.

"Donna gave us some cupcakes." Andy mumbled, sitting down on the couch by his father.

"Well isn't that sweet! Oh, and they're Batman themed, how did she know?" Amy exclaimed.

"She made them for Flora originally." Andy sighed. Chris, and Amy shared knowing looks.

"What?"

"Oh nothing," Amy shook her head, and sat in between her husband and son.

Flora ripped her headphones out of her ears, as her mother walked into her bedroom. "Yes?"

"I just got back from giving the Biersacks' cupcakes." Donna sat on Flora's bed.

"..Okay?" Flora cocked her head to the side.

"Andy told me to tell you he was sorry for what he said today." Donna picked at the fraying quilt on Flora's bed.

Flora scoffed, "Your kidding right?"

"Not at all." Donna chuckled. Her daughter leaned back into the massive amounts of pillows on her bed. Why the change of heart?

"Whatever." She sighed.

"Whatever? Flora come on, everyone has off days.." Donna shook her head.

"Two days in a row?" Flora raised her eyebrow.

"He just moved to a new town, he doesn't know anyone, you'd be in a pissy mood too, Flor." Donna looked around the dark room, and stood up. "Just give him a chance." She exited the room.

Flora sat there exasperated. She was used to her mother being on her side.

What had changed?

Notes

Comments

I hate the fact that Flora let her dad get in her head. Had it not been for him, I'm sure she would be going to California with the band right now. Ohio State really isn't a big deal as far as schools go, and the school in California is just as prestigious (if not more so). Even from a more logical and practical standpoint, it does not seem like Flora is making a good choice.
