Far And Away.

Too Cool For Prom

"This is so lame Flor..." Andy grunted, crossing his arms over his chest as he looked around the room. People were dancing to some pop song, their tuxes and long dresses making the situation even more unbearable for the rocker.

"Come on Andy...it's not that bad." Flora, who was dressed in a long light blue dress, said as she turned to face her boyfriend and smiled. He had been a good sport about this whole thing at first-he had even rented a tux, but once they had shown up at the dance, Andy's mood had changed completely.

"Yeah man..." Chance, who was on the other side of the grumpy rocker, was saying and Andy only rolled his eyes.

This was lame and he couldn't believe that Flora had talked him in to taking her to their Senior Prom. Sure, it was one of the last things they would all do in high school, but Andy hated being in school and the fact that he was surrounded by a bunch of dancing morons was only making things worse. They had come over here in his dad's car and Andy had tried to turn around several times. Chance was with them, which made it slightly better, but as a couple ran past them with the girl giggling loudly and the guys trying to reach out for her, Andy felt his stomach turn.

God he couldn't wait to get out of this hell hole and head out to LA with the guys. Ashley had already set up a place for them to stay-a rat trap apartment with one bedroom that they would all have to cram in to, but it would be better than sleeping out on the street. Andy couldn't deny though that Flora looked amazing in her dress, with her hair all pulled up and out of her face and he knew that he was lucky to have her. She kept him grounded-she kept him from getting wrapped up in his own shit and Andy knew that without her he would of given up.

"I may not be happy about being here Flora, but you do look really beautiful tonight." Andy said, leaning in towards her as he whispered softly.

"Thanks...you look very dashing." Flora smiled up at him, reaching out to tuck a long piece of black hair behind his ears. Andy did look good in his classic black suit, his white shirts crisp against his skinny black tie.

"Can we go yet?" And there it was-Andy had completely ruined the moment.

"Can you at least dance with me for a few songs?" Flora asked, keeping her tone calm but inside she was screaming.

Lately all she and Andy had been doing was bickering back and forth and it was becoming a drain on their relationship. Flora wanted to do anything and everything she could in the last few months of their senior year to make their time together last, but all Andy wanted to do was call it lame and talk about heading out to LA. Flora still hadn't made up her mind about where she was going for school, but more and more she was starting to see that her father had a point. Andy was focused on his music, which was great and what he should be doing, but where would that leave Flora? She had been around Andy before when he had worked on his music and she had been ignored for the most part.

Did Flora really want to leave her home to head out to a place where she would be crammed in to a small apartment with five guys who she loved, but who weren't the cleanest bunch? Did she really wanted to trek out to a campus, which was gorgeous, and deal with all of the daily traffic? Would Andy and the guys actually make something of themselves or would they fail miserably?

All of these questions bounced around in her brain on a constant basis and Flora was beginning to regret even getting involved in the entire idea.

"Chance?" Flora asked, smirking as she noticed that their blonde friend was currently grooving out to the music in his own weird and hilarious way. Chance finally seemed to notice her, smiling as he stopped his wiggling and cleared his throat.

"Sup?" He asked and his eyes grew wide as Flora walked around Andy, ignoring the sulky singer, and linked her arm in to his own.

"Will you please dance with me? I'd like to atleast have one dance before the end of the night and Andy's being a party pooper." She said and Chance only looked from Flora and then back up at Andy. The blue eyed cry baby was just standing there, either too pissed or too shocked to do anything.

"I-uh..."

"Oh Andy doesn't care...he's too cool to be here anyways." Flora said with a hint of venom in her tone as she tugged on his arm and Chance followed her out on to the dance floor. The song was slow and as he placed his hands as high up on her back as possible and Flora wrapped her arms around his neck, Chance knew he was getting in to the middle of a major fight between the couple.

And I saw the tears on your face
I shot you down and I slammed the door
But couldn't make a sound
So please stay sweet my dear
Don't hate me now
I can't tell how this last song ends

Andy stood by and watched as one of his best friends danced with the love of his life and while Andy hated being here, he now regretted not taking Flora out to dance for just one song. Little did he know how much he truly would regret it in just a few weeks...

Comments

I hate the fact that Flora let her dad get in her head. Had it not been for him, I'm sure she would be going to California with the band right now. Ohio State really isn't a big deal as far as schools go, and the school in California is just as prestigious (if not more so). Even from a more logical and practical standpoint, it does not seem like Flora is making a good choice.
