Juliet’s POV:

I was sitting watching TV when the phone rang.
I picked up the phone. “Hello?”
“Aunt Juliet?” It was Jack, he sounded scared.
“Jack, what is it?”
“Mommy won’t get up.” His voice cracked.
“What happened?” I asked, more concerned now.
“She’s on the floor, there’s blood.” He started to cry.
“Don’t worry Jack. I’ll call 911 and I will be there as soon as I can.”
“Okay.” He managed through his tears.
I hung up and headed for the car.
I pulled out my phone to call 911. “Hello? Yes, I need an ambulance at 59 Huntley Road. Something’s wrong with my friend, she’s bleeding and won’t get up.” They told me that they were on their way. I called Ella next. “Ella?”
“Yes, Juliet what is it? What’s wrong?” She immediately picked up on my worried tone.
“Something’s happened to Belle. Jack called me. I’ve called 911, but I don’t want to take the kids to the hospital. Can you come and pick them up?”
“Of course.” She said.
“Thank you.” I hung up.
The last thing I needed was for the kids to be at the hospital worrying and panicking. They needed to be distracted. I’d keep them updated, let them know what was going on.

I pulled up to the house to see the paramedics bringing Belle out to the ambulance. Jack and Samantha were standing in the doorway looking terrified. I went over to them and gave them a quick hug.
“Hey.” I looked up to see Ella standing behind me; she must have just gotten here too.
“Hey. Okay, you two are going to go with Aunt Ella. I’ll make sure I call you when I know what’s happening with your Mommy.” I said.
“You promise?” Samantha asked.
“I promise.”
Ella took them to her car and I went over to the ambulance.
“She’s my best friend. I’m the one who called 911, can I come with her?” I asked.
“Hop in, we gotta get moving.” The paramedic in the back of the ambulance said.
I quickly climbed in and sat beside him. I looked at Belle lying on the gurney. I took her hand as the sirens came on and we sped off towards the hospital.

I was sitting in the waiting room now. Belle was in surgery. I had one last call to make now that Belle was being taken care of. I took a deep breath and called the number.
“Hello?”
“Ashley?”
“Juliet? Did you want Andy?”
“No, I need to talk to you.” I said, trying to keep my composure.
“Why? What happened?”
“Something happened to Belle. She’s in surgery now.”
“WHAT!? What happened?” He said, getting extremely worried.
“I don’t know. I’m waiting for the doctors to tell me. Can you come home?”
He sighed. “No I can’t. Damn! We have concerts booked solid for the next two weeks.”
“What about after that? I know you guys have cancelled shows before in emergencies.” I said.
“Yeah, when one of us has broken a limb or something. But then we have to make them up later in the year. We don’t have the time to do that this year, the way we’ve spaced out the tour.”
“You can’t even ask?”
“No, because I know what the answer would be. ‘We can’t let the fans down. When would you like to reschedule? Andy’s break in April and May or your own break in August?’ It just wouldn’t fly. Not this time.” Ashley sounded so angry.
“All right then, I’ll let you know what happens and I’ll keep an eye on her until you get home.”
“Thanks Juliet, you’re the best.”
“I know.” I hung up and continued to wait.

“Miss Simms?” One of the doctors I had spoken to earlier came through the emergency room doors.
“Yes?” I said, standing up.
“You’re friend is fine now and resting.” He said.
“Can you tell me what happened to her? I wasn’t actually there. I got a panicked call from one of her kids.”
He sighed. “She had a miscarriage. A bad one.” He said. “That’s why she was out for so long. She lost a lot of blood and we had to do a full work up on her. We also had to give her a few stitches on her forehead. She must have split it open when she fell.”
I nodded. “Can I see her now?”
“Yes, follow me.”
“Does she know?” I asked as we walked.
“No, we thought someone she knew should be the one to tell her.”
“Thank you doctor.” I said as I walked into the room.
Belle was lying on a bed, looking blankly at the ceiling. She had in IV in her arm.
“Belle.” I said, sitting on a chair next to her.
“Juliet.” She said. “What happened to me? They won’t tell me.”
I took her hand. “Belle, you had a miscarriage.” I said softly.
“No, no that isn’t possible.” She said, shaking her head.
“It is, that’s why you fainted, too much blood loss.”
“No, no no.” She repeated. She started to cry.
I pulled her close to me, soothing her until she calmed down.
“Does Ashley know?” She whispered.
“No. Do you want to call him?”
She shook her head. “I can’t right now. Could you call him? Please?” She looked at me with desperate eyes. I could tell by that look that she could barely handle her own emotions at that moment, let alone hers and Ashley’s as well.
“All right I’ll call him.” I stepped out of the room and called Ashley.
“Hello? Juliet?”
“Ashley, Belle’s fine now. But there’s something I need to tell you.”
“What?”
“The reason she fainted was because she had a miscarriage. I’m so sorry Ashley.”
There was a long pause. “No, thank you for telling me Juliet. As long as Belle is fine.” He sounded distant, like he wasn’t all there. He hung up the phone.
Then I called Ella and told her what was going on. I assumed she told the twins in a way that made sense to them. I went back to keep Belle company. What a crappy thing to happen. All I could do was be there for my friend and hope that things would get better soon.
