Fallen Angels

I woke up naked next to my wife the next morning. Thinking about the nights events brought a smile to my face. I rolled over and kissed the love of my life and climbed out of the bed. Alese rolled over and cuddled the blanket but didn’t wake up. I gave her on last look and I grabbed some clothes and headed to the bathroom. I didn’t want to wake her so I didn’t bother with a shower. I just changed and headed into the living room to leave her a note.

‘Went to check on everything. You needed the sleep. I love you’

I left it on the table and headed for a report. I flew to the outpost just as Jesse and Ashley were relieving Jake.

“Oh hey Andy. I guess since you’re here I will only have to tell this once. So there was no activity. I didn’t have the guards go further than a half mile out though. In that time they didn’t see anything and nothing was reported. Everything was quite.” Jake informed us.

I nodded, “Thanks. Go get some sleep.” He nodded and walked to the couch were his soul mate was sleeping. He picked her up gently. She made a noise and snuggled closer to his chest. He kissed her forehead and left.

“We want to try and expand the patrol area, at least to a full mile.” Ashley said, turning and facing me.
I thought about it for a second, “Fine but no one goes alone. They need to be in groups and go incognito.” Jesse and Ashely nodded and went to relay orders.

I headed out to find Carla. The vegetation where the poison had hit it was starting to regrow. That was a good sign, which meant she had stopped the spread of whatever it was. I headed to her and CC’s place. I knocked on the door and CC answered.

“Andy, traitor.” He told me with a smile. “I haven’t had meat in over 24 hours! This is your fault.” He told me as we headed to the kitchen.
“Well it seems to be working. You are healing nice. Maybe that means we should all give up meat.” I told him jokingly. He gave me a horrified look and fell the ground acting like he was dying.
“Oh stop being such a drama queen.” Carla said playfully kicking his side.
“Everyone is out to kill me!” he fake cried.

Carla and I just laughed. “So I managed to stop the poison. Neither Vic, nor I know what it was. Jack and Alex managed to get a sample. Vic and I are supposed to meet later to try and figure more out about it. Whatever it was, is nasty. I did manage to coax the plants to grow again after a few hours. Vic got the barrier fixed.” Carla informed me.

CC had gotten up and sat in a chair. “I want to start training again.” He said.
“CC we have been over this.” Carla said glaring at him.
“Yes we have. I am not getting stronger sitting here. Mike got the antidote and I am better. Now I need to get out and prepare for the battle to come. Sitting here is driving me crazy.”
“But..” Carla started but I cut her off. “I think that’s a good idea.” They both looked at me in shock. I held up my hands before Carla went off on me for taking CC’s side. “He can’t just sit around here. With the antidote his healing powers are working again and he will be fine for light training. He can help with the training of the humans.” I said giving him a smirk.

“Wait a second.” CC started.
“That’s my offer. Take it or leave it. I am going to talk to Vic now. Training starts in 30 minutes.” I told them as I let myself out. I could hear Carla laughing at CC’s whining.

My next stop was Vic’s house. I went to knock on the door when I heard voices from the back. I walked back to see Vic, Orion, Ellie, and Maya talking.

Maya was the first to stop talking and turned my way, hearing my question before I asked. “To answer your question. We have a problem.”
“Uhh, I don’t like the sound of that.” I said, concerned.
“Well the poison we had has just vanished.” Vic told me. “I asked Maya and Ellie to help me try and figure it out but they have no idea.”
“Yeah I haven’t heard any thoughts about anyone taking it.” Maya said.
“And every time I try and see it, I get nothing. It’s like running into a brick wall.” Ellie sounded frustrated.
“We have scavenged every corner of our house and it’s just not here.” Orion said throwing her hands up.

I looked to Maya, asking her if Orion was lying. She heard my thought and shook her head. “Well did you figure anything out before it vanished?” I asked. Vic just shook his head. “Okay well I guess just keep looking. Maya, when did Mike leave?”
“About two hours ago. He said if he was gone more than four to send a search party.” I nodded. “If he’s not back in two hours inform Jesse and Ashley to send out a party and send someone for me.” She nodded.

I took off to the training arena. It was about time to start. Seripha, Jack, Alex, Jinxx, CC, and Alese were all supposed to be there. Whoever wasn’t in training during the day, had to do it at night. When I arrived, Jinxx was enchanting the weapons so they wouldn’t inflict damage since humans would be using them. They would still hurt but they wouldn’t cut or maim. CC was trying to bargain with Seripha to train with the humans so he didn’t have to. Jack and Alex were handing out weapons to everyone. I grabbed my swords and looked for Alese.

I was surprised to see she wasn’t there but I figured she was exhausted and would catch the night training. Before too long I was lost in the routine. I was switching from humans to angels, trying to help those in need. I spared with a few until Maya come running to me.

“Andy we need you now!” she was frantic.
“Is it Mike? What happened?” I asked, sheathing my swords and running after her.
“Just hurry.” Was all she would say.

We reached the outpost where Ashely and Jesse were waiting. I flew Maya to the top and we met Mike up there. “If he is here, then what’s the problem? What did you find Mike?”

“Andy I am so sorry.” Was all he said as he held an object out to me. I took it out of his hand and nearly lost it. It was Alese’s wedding ring.
“Where?” I asked.
“It was at the entrance to Hell we used.”

I just shook my head. She wouldn’t do this. She wouldn’t leave me. I jumped off the outpost and snapped my wings open. I flew straight for my house. I threw the door open hard enough to break it off its hinges. I stormed around my house in a panicked state.

Alese was nowhere to be seen. I checked the bedroom last, hoping this was all a cruel joke.

However when I opened the door, all I got was a note.
‘I am so sorry baby. Remember that I love you.’

So, I have had like zero motivation to write and then tonight it just hit me. Looks like I will be up all night writing haha.


I am no going to lie, writing this chapter put me on edge. I hope you enjoyed it though.
