I walked in on Hailey, and she was smiling like a cheshire cat again. I plugged her up with her drip, and looked at her. Something was definatly up. I just hoped that whatever she was doing wasn't dangerouse or anything like that. She needed to let her hair down, she needed to meet people, but because she'd never been out before she didn't know what was dangerous or not. God knows what could happen to her.

"Hey look Hailey, is something happening that your keeping from us?" I asked, and I saw the smile fade. "No....why?"
"Because your happy all the time recently, and also....if something is happening I'm happy for it to happen."
"You what?"
"If your meeting someone or something like that I'm fine with it, but I just need to check it's not dangerous because you never know now adays."
"Really?"
"Really."
"So if something was happening, you wouldent tell anyone?"
"Nope."

Se sighed, and looked towards me. "Ok....ill tell you. About a week ago, someone came in through the window. He was really sweet and promised to come back to see me. I didn't think he would and he did, and when he did he made me feel normal, like there was nothing wrong with me. He took me out, and he's showed me how to live, and how it feels to be free." She said, and I felt a lump come to my throat. I realised something. All she wanted was to be free, to be normal, to be treated like she was the same as everyone else. Other kids her age wanted the new smart phone, wanted a car, but all she wanted was to be free. I held back my tears and smiled at her. "So whats his name?"
"Andy."
"Well I' glad your happy."
"Your not going to say anything are you?" She said, and I saw the worry and hurt in her eyes.


"No I'm not going to. But all I ask is one thing."
"What?"
"That I meet him. Make sure he's safe and means you no harm." I said, and she thought for a minute before nodding. "Ok."
"When's he next comeing?"
"Tomorrow I think."
"Well when he's here explain to him then I'll come in. I promise on my life that I wont tell anyone."
I said, and I saw her nod. She still didn't seem sure. "Here." I said, putting a neckless on her. "What is it?"
"A neckless. It's my promise to you. As long as this is on your neck I can't tell anyone." I said, and she smiled. "Thank you Susan."
"No problem Hailey."
