Almost Unbreakable

The World Without You

"Sweetheart, when do you start your new job?" My mother asked.

"Tomorrow." I smiled, sipping on the tea she had poured me earlier. Brett slid his arm around my shoulders.

"Where are you working again, darling?" My father asked.

"It's a music magazine. Rock Forever." I replied, sinking lower into the couch.

"Oh that's nice." He smiled falsely, "I know how you love your rock music."

"Yeah." I nodded.

"You know, a friend of mine at church, her daughter had a run in with someone from a band at a bar. Apparently he was trying to get her to have sex with him. It was awful." My mother shook her head.

"Do you know what band?" I asked.

"Black Veil something, I don't remember." She shrugged.

"I've never heard of them." I said wrinkling my nose.

"We'll steer clear of them, if you ever see them at your job." She said, "Or just flash your ring. I think they'll get the idea."

I smiled falsely at her, "Yeah."

"Oh well honey it's late. You and Brett should get to bed. Big day tomorrow!" She exclaimed. Brett, and I stood up. We bid goodnight to my parents, and he bent down to pick up my suitcases.

"Thanks." I said.

"No problem." He smiled, as we climbed the stairs to my old bedroom.

The room was painted a dull gray color. I remember the fight my mother and I had when I said I wanted to paint the walls black. She scolded me, and said no daughter of her's would do such a thing. I refused to paint the walls the pink color she picked out, so we left them the same color they came with.

Not that it mattered much anyways, since most of the walls were covered by band posters. I never got into the newer bands though. Mostly Mötley Crüe, Kiss, The Used, Metallica. Those were my favorites.

Too bad, I was probably going to be interviewing and writing about smaller newer bands at Rock Forever. My first day tomorrow I was interviewing some current rock band. They wouldn't tell me who it was, just the questions to ask.

"Babe, do you want to get unpacked?" Brett asked, unzipping my suitcases.

"Yeah sure." I walked over, and we began unpacking my clothes.

Fifteen minutes later, we finished unpacking, and had climbed into bed. I rolled over, and felt Brett's arm snake around my waist. I sighed.

"Goodnight Daisy." He whispered.

"Night." I muttered.

..............

The next morning, I hopped out of bed without waking Brett, and got in the shower.

The warm water washed away all the grime of travel off my skin. After I shampooed and conditioned my hair, I sank to the shower floor. I drew my knees to my chest, as I felt tears coming on.

Humans weren't meant to live this way, so sad. So pressured to always do the right thing. I don't love Brett, your not supposed to marry someone you don't love. When I was away at college, I could forget we were together. What the Hell am I going to do?

By now the tears were streaming down my face. I knew I had to get out of the shower, so I stood up, turned the water off, and stepped out, acting like nothing happened.

"Good morning." Brett said walking into the bathroom.

"Morning." I said towel drying my hair. He sighed, and I looked up at him.

"Why are your eyes so red?" He asked.

"Oh, uh, my uhm shampoo got in them." I lied.

"Oh okay." He shook his head, and walked out of the restroom. I sighed, and started getting ready.

After about a half an hour, and most of it spent arguing with my mother about what I was going to wear, I was out of the front door. I got in my black Mini Cooper, and drove off to my new office.

I arrived in about forty minutes, due to an accident on the Los Angeles freeways. I grabbed my bag, and walked into the Rock Forever offices.

A pretty blonde girl was sitting behind a desk.

"Hey are you the new writer?" She asked.

"I hope so. I'm Daisy Jenkins." I said shaking her hand.

"Sarah Aiden. The band your interviewing is coming in about twenty minutes. You can set up your desk while your waiting." She said smiling.

"Okay. Any chance you could tell me who the band is?" I pried.

"Nope. It's a surprise." She chuckled.

"Alright." I groaned, and walked over to the desk she pointed too. I placed a few pictures up, including one of Brett and I. However tucked in the back of it was a picture of Andy and I. I smiled to myself as I looked at it.

"Hey Daisy." I looked up to see a man a few years older than me standing there. I hid the picture in my notebook. "I'm your boss, Michael Lieman. I just wanted to introduce myself, and say we were very impressed with your resume."

"Oh thank you." I said happily, shaking his hand.

"No problem." He smiled, "Also your band is here." He nodded towards a conference room door. I looked at him nervously, and grabbed my notebook. I walked in the room, and what I saw shocked me more than anything.

Five dyed black hair boys all sat at the table. One of them was looking at me in disbelief, the same way I was looking at him. One of them had piercing blue eyes. One of them was the very face of my dreams every night.

One of them was Andy.
