The Unexpected Maori

Moana's POV
School still hasn’t started yet. But it is nice hanging with Andy. He is really sweet. I wish I could tell him. But how… I cant. Eru my brother would kill him. And so would my dad if he didn’t have to train for the next Rugby game so much. If they found out that I liked Andy he would end up in a wheel chair. Maybe if I get them to like him before I tell them I like him. Thatmight actually work. MOANA! Pull yourself together girl! The second guy you meet on the first day of school and you fall in love. He might have a girlfriend for all I know. I looked over at Andy and he looked at me exchanging smiles. I have been trying lately to stop reading others minds it gets hard to remember what they have told you and what you have read. Trust me it is REALLY awkward bringing up something they haven't told you.

Walking around this huge school was hard enough and having people stare at you, looking at you like a freak of nature, then continuing on to whisper to each other. I had to know what they were saying, but I promised myself not to read others minds. But this was important, kind of.

I concentrated on a group of girls in year 7. I sighed as I heard what they were saying.

"who the hell does she think she is?"
"I don’t know but she is really weird"
"and what's with her non-excitant aunty"
"haha maybe she is just making it up so she doesn't have to confess to stalking us"
"hmm creep"

I exit their minds and kept walking next to Andy. Feeling a bit sad I turn to Andy and decide to tell him what those stupid girls were saying.
"Andy? Can I ask you something?"
"Sure Moana. What is it?"
"Why is everyone so judgemental?" I asked with a 5 year old voice. Andy looked at me confused.
"What… how ummm"
"I read the minds of a group of girls, they called me a creep"

Andy doesn't answer me but to my surprise he pulls me into a hug and kisses the top of my head. I melt inside, but who wouldn’t when your crush just hugged you. I hug him back and start crying softly into his chest ruining my eyeliner. Andy hugged me tighter and broke off the hug that I wished would last eternity. He grabbed my hand and pulled me across the school grounds, to a gigantic tree right next to the school gate. He let me admire the tree for a second before pulling me towards the gate. He pushed the gate back before walking right behind the tree and signalling for me to follow. Andy held my hand as he pulled away a huge piece of bark revealing what this tree really was. It was a hollow tree. I was frozen in awe as lights flickered on to reveal a big piece of wood at thebottom (so you didn’t have to sit on dirt) and a few bean bags.

"Do you like it?" Andy whispered.
"Like it? I love it this is amazing" I almost screamed.
"I found this while trying to get out of school at the start of year 7 here. When I pushed the gate down to get over it flung me back and I broke a hole in the tree and yeah. I come here at lunches sometimes to get away from everyone."

I couldn’t believe my eyes. I sat down I one of the bean bags and Andy sat in one beside me. Andy was amazing even though I had met him only ten minutes ago, I was in love.
With me realising I heard my Aunty sing an old Maori love song called Porkarekarenana. By the looks of it Andy heard it too and was looking around to look for the source of the singing. Andy looked at me and saw me blushing and he smiled.
"that's my Aunty singing" I whispered to him.
"She has a nice voice. What is this song about?" he asked curiously.
I paused and smiled to myself. "It's a love song"
Andy put his head down and blushed. "Wow ummm huh I guess umm I don’t know, what do you think she means?"
I smile nervously trying to think of a way to tellhim without himfreaking out. "it means… that…" I stuttered. I gave up trying not to freak him out and blurted these few words "we are meant to be." I look Andy in the eye waiting for his reaction.

To my joy he smiled and pulled me into a hug and whispered, "I love you".
I was smiling uncontrollably and I rubbed my nose against his like the Maori's did, like a kiss, but to great each other and to show trust in each other.Andy played along and I explained what it meant.

Andy gave one of those gorgeous lop sided smirks and lent towards me.
"This is what our people do to show love and trust" Andy whispered before smashing his lips into mine.
I was to shocked to pull away so I kept kissing him and before I knew it, the little kiss turned into much more than I expected. With my teeth I started to play with his lip ring causing him to let out a low moan. Andy licked my lips after breaking the kiss for air. I returned the kiss and granted Andy entry. We played around each other's mouth for a while then Andy grabbed my hips and pulled me closer to him. I snaked my small arms around his neck and ran my fingers through his messy black hair earning another moan and he deepened the kiss.I never wanted to let him go but we both needed air. Our eyes connectedand I lent my head against his shoulder.

"I'm guessing your single" Andy smirked.
"no" I whispered.
And grabbed my shoulders andheld me back at arms distance.
"WHO IS HE?! I'LL FUCKING KILL HIM!" He screamed at me.
I smiled calmly and said "please don't kill yourself"
Andy paused realising what I had just said and smiled giving me a gigantic hug. "You were amazing, seems like you have had lots of experience."
"no. that was my first kiss" I stuttered.
Andy looked me in the eye with disbelief. "I don’t believe you because you are the most beautiful girl I have ever laid eyes on."
