The Black Veil Bride To Be

Darkest Eyes

Andy’s POV

Sitting there after hearing the most angelic sound I think I've ever heard in my life I felt myself wanting to clap but couldn't. Nobody else did either. It wasn't appropriate to show praise for someone else other than our “Heavenly Father,” according to Father Cesare.

She hastily handed her mic back to the organist and went down to the front pew by her mother and grabbed her coat before speed-walking out of the church hall. I watched her, I was watching her close enough that I could even see something fall from out of her skirt by the door.
It was small...silver...a little square thing. I looked over at my mom, “I have to use the bathroom,”
“Fine, just hurry,” my mom replied looking at her hymn book,

I got up and walked over to the unclaimed object, it was a lighter. Why would a church girl need a fancy lighter like this? There were engravings on the side of it, “Hell Hath No Fury…” on one side of the lighter and on the other side was, “A.J.P.” surrounded by a heart. I walked out of the hall and heard the pitter-patter of her heels hitting the tile steps in the stairwell that lead to behind the church. I followed her quickly till I came to the exit; I left the door slightly ajar as to not freak her out by just bursting out there like an imbecile.

I watched her take out a silver cigarette case from the top of her skirt and take a cigarette out, placing it between her red lips. A cigarette looked so good right now...then suddenly her face turned white with a horrible realization that her lighter was gone. This is it, go on Andy! Just go out and give her the lighter.

I pushed myself outside and closed the door quietly behind me while she was frantically looking around her, “excuse me,” I said calmly.

She whipped her head around and looked at me with the darkest eyes I’ve ever seen in my life, “you dropped this,” I choked out.

“Oh, thank you,” she gleamed she said snatching it from me and lighting it up for her cigarette. Taking a deep inhale, you’d think by the way she took the drag that she was smoking cigars before she took up cigarettes.

“Oh!” she gasped, “where are my manners, golly.” she said retrieving her silver case of nicotine, “would you like one or do you not smoke?”
“I’ll take one,” I said timidly, “thank you,”
“Anytime,” she replied holding out her lighter for me to take a hit from. Oh sweet nicotine in my system.

I just watched her in silence as she kept taking hits from her cigarette, it was almost beautiful in a way. “You got a name, kid?” she asked stomping out her cigarette under her heel.
“Andy,” I replied on an exhale,

“Andy,” she smiled at me leaning against the brick wall, “pleasure to meet you,” she stuck out her hand to shake it. I shook it and smiled, “rather classical, aren’t we?” I joked.
“I can’t help it, I have classical ways but I can assure you I’m rather on edge,”
“Aren’t we all?” I asked,

“Well,” she began, “Some more than others,” she winked at me playfully. Gosh, I don’t know if it was the nicotine that was making me dizzy or her!

“You’ve got a lot of charm,” I chuckled,
“I think the term you’re looking for is ‘moxy’” she smiled,
“Moxy,” I said under my breath, “I like it,”
I finished the cigarette and stomped it out under my sneaker before turning to say something but when I looked up she was gone,
“C’mon, kid,” I turned around and saw her standing by the door, “we better get back in there,” she winked at me again.

Amelie’s POV

We walked back up the stairwell, side by side, smiling at one another. Gosh, what was it about him? He had the brightest blue eyes I’ve ever seen, more beautiful than Ol’ Blue Eyes himself. We entered the church hall and everyone was genuflected in the closing prayer, “I’ll see you after,” I said smiling at him. He nodded and went back to the mid-section whilst I snuck my way up to the front and slid myself beside my mother.

I bowed my head quickly for the last part of the prayer as to blend in with everyone else.
Everyone concluded with a big, “amen,” as we resurrected our heads from our hunched, genuflected positions. “You smell like smoke,” whispered my mother unhappily,
“Better smoke than liquor,” I smirked saucily,
“We’ll talk about this when we get home,” she growled lowly.
Father Cesare concluded the ceremony and exited down the nave and into the vestibule. Everyone began to stand and exit, I could see Andy walking forth and looking back at me. Gosh, I hope I wasn’t blushing. Father Cesare greeted everybody as they exited and made small talk with other members, I just wanted to stand by Andy and talk.

“Thank you for singing for us this morning, Amelie,” smiled Father Cesare,
“Anytime, Father,” I shook his hand and proceeded to look for Andy, I found him standing by the entrance of the church. Looked like he was waiting for someone.
“That was a close one,” I giggled,
“Yeah, glad we got back in there when we did,” he replied,
“Well, I guess...I’ll see you next Sunday?” I asked,
“Why wait a whole week?” he smiled, “Do you have a cell phone?”
“Yes,”
“Then lets meet up some other time when we’re not busy,”
“That sounds like a great idea,” I blushed,
We exchanged numbers and talked a bit more until a rather average woman with light red hair and bright blue eyes came over, “ready, Andy?” the woman asked,
“Yeah, mom,” he said, “oh and mom, this is Amelie,” he said introducing me,
“Oh Amelie,” she said rather high pitched, “you sang beautifully this morning, a very dark piece though, I really enjoyed it,”
“Thank you, ma’am,” I gushed,
“Well, see you around,” Andy smiled,
“Goodbye,” I replied back,
“See you next Sunday,” smiled Andy’s mom.

Andy’s POV

“She’s such a doll,” my mom kept saying throughout the whole ride home, “didn’t you think so Chris?” she asked.
“She had an awesome voice and she was kind of cute,” he said hinting at me,
“Yeah,” I said rolling my eyes at them,
“Did you get her number?” asked my mom,
“Maybe I did, maybe I didn’t,”
“He did,” my dad whispered to my mom,
“I heard that!”
“C’mon it’s not that bad,”
“She’s just a girl I met at church,” just a girl I thought...a beautiful girl. With an angel voice.
We got home and first thing I did was go to my room and throw myself on the bed, kicking off my sneakers and snuggling into the blankets. I grabbed my cellphone and looked through my contacts.

The name Amelie stuck out, I wanted to text her...was it too soon? Oh c’mon Andy, it’s never too soon for a text. I sent her a text,
“Hey, it’s Andy.” and set my phone down on the night stand. Within two minutes I got a reply,
“Hey there,”
Andy: “So church today was...interesting,”
Amelie: “Yeah, it was,”
Andy: “Thanks again for the cigarette,”
Amelie: “No worries, doll,” She called me doll...how odd. But cute. I smiled and replied, “did you want to hang out later tonight?”
Amelie: “I’ll have to see, if not then I’ll just sneak out ;)”
Andy: “Oh no! Don’t do that, you might get into trouble!”
Amelie: “What’s the worst my mom can do? Whip me?”
Andy: “Okay, it’s your hide,”
Amelie: “Where shall we meet?”
Andy: “Oak Park at around say 7?”
Amelie: “It’s a date :) See you then <3”

Why was I getting butterflies just by text message? This was the weirdest feeling I’ve ever felt. I set my phone back on the nightstand and laid in my bed, resting my eyes before falling into a nap.
