Can't Escape my Fate

Chapter 9

Lynx POV

I stared out the window and sighed. This place was so familiar and yet so different, I didn’t know what to think. On one hand felt that we were safe here, but I didn’t know if we really would be safe. “No use in overthinking.” I pushed off from the wall and left the room. I made my way out of the ‘hospital’ and started walking towards what I felt was the center of town. As I passed more and more shops I relaxed and felt more at home.

Instead of the center of town, I found the training area. I got up onto the half wall that surrounded the training area and watched the couple of sparring matches. I looked up when someone leaned on the wall next to me. “I know you just woke up and all, but do you want to have a light sparring match with me?”

“CC, you really think that I’d say no to a sparring match?” I hopped off the wall and stretched, “Let’s play hand to hand though, no magic.” We walked out towards the center of the area, I relaxed even more as a familiar feeling settled over me. This was one of the things I loved doing. Even with the weaker guys back in F.E.A.R’s army, I thoroughly enjoyed sparring.
Without giving CC a chance to react I lunged at him, my left fist aiming for his face. He backed up just enough to avoid a full on punch, but I still managed to clip him. I got another hit in before I barely avoided a punch of his. I jumped back, and watched him closely looking for any kind of opening. Seeing a slightly obvious opening and knowing that it was probably a false one, I lunged at him again. Instead of a more predictable move, I planted my left foot and kicked straight up at his face with my right.

CC grabbed my foot and leg, as I expected. I jumped up slightly lashed out with my left foot and caught myself before I face planted the sand. I quickly got up to my feet just as he went to strike. I felt and heard the crack before I felt any of the pain.

“Fuck, Lynx I’m so sorry!” CC knelt next to me and tried to move my hand to see how bad he had broken my nose.

“Stop, it’s fine. It’ll heal eventually.” I pushed him back and winced as I tried to breathe normally.

“Let’s go get Jinxx to heal it.” He helped me up and all but dragged me back to the hospital. Once we got there, CC dragged me to Jinxx’s office and told me to wait while he went to track him down. Since I was alone in the room, I decided to look around. The books on magic instantly interested me more than anything else.

"Good god, this guy is a nerd." I spoke softly to myself as I flipped through an old notebook on the desk about spells to retreve sealed off memories. "I thought this was all just myth."

"Thought what was myth?" Someone said from behind me. I jumped and turned around too quickly I ended up knocking things off the desk and tripped on a vial of blue liquid. As the glass tube shattered I fell backwards and hit my head off the sandstone wall. I shook my head as black spots danced in my vision.

"God damn it." I struggled to stand up blushing horribly as CC laughed openly at me. "Shut up it's not funny."

"No, it really is. Trust me." CC tried to stop laughing long enough to have a conversation. "Jinxx this is the girl I told you about."

"Okay, I'll fix you up in no time." He smiled a bit, but I could tell it was forced.

"No rush, not like I'm going anywhere." Jinxx motioned for me to sit on one of the cots in the room then dragged a stool over from the corner of the room and began healing my broken nose and the bump on the back of my head from the fall.

"There's a washroom back there, go clean yourself up kid." He spoke softly as he stood up to go take care of the mess I made when he and CC startled me upon entering the room.

I winced at how cold the water was as I washed the dried blood from my face, "At least it's working..." I looked into the dirty mirror and sighed, between the dirt from wandering the desert and the bruises from the fights I looked about as good as I was going to. I walked out from the washroom and looked over at CC and Jinxx. Jinxx looked shocked and was about to ask something when sirens started going off.

Notes

I know it's short, but I couldn't think of what else to add. I had most of this written up already. But it is what it is. Alright loves, I'm gonna start on the next chapter and hopefully knock a few more out in the next few hours so I can attempt to finally make progress.

@Roses and thorns
I fully intend to pick this story back up. I haven’t thought of this site in years, but yesterday I wanted to read my old stories, so now I feel the desire to start again. I promise there will be a new update in the near future. Thank you for reading

Please update

update? ^_^

@musicminxx
I'm going through massive writers block as well, so it's like everything seems so boring for me. But I promise that I won't give up with this. Gonna suck it up and spend the rest of today writing (hopefully) I'm watching two different shows while trying to write and it's extremely distracting.
