Sink Your Teeth Into Forever

Chapter 6

CC's POV
I was stunned, she walked out of the restaurant leaving me sitting there. I sat there shocked for a moment, when a voice snapped me out of it.
"Well don't just let her leave," I turned around and an old lady was looking at me from the table behind me.
"What?" I said, I wasn't sure I'd heard her right.
"Don't let her leave, silly, she obviously doesn't want to be leaving you, go and apologize, for what ever you did that made her so upset," The old lady smiled at me. I've always been told to listen to your elders, so I threw a few hundred dollar bills down on the table, told the waiter to keep the change, and thanked the old lady. I ran out the door after Lauren, she couldn't have gone far. I was fully prepared to tell her the truth, if it meant her staying with me. Breathed in the cool night air and looked down the road, I saw her figure, not far away, go under a street light. It had gotten dark fast, and not many people were out. In fact the city street was vacant. I was about to yell to her, when I burly figure stepped out from an alley, I heard her scream. My vision went red and all of my rational thought went out the window.
Lauren's POV
After I was grabbed, at first I thought that it was CC, then I realized how wrong I was. This guy was way too wide to be him. Then the strangest sound tore though the air. It was like a ticked off lion tearing through fifty newspapers. The guy holding me turned, confused by the sound and then screamed, throwing me to the ground. From over his shoulder I saw what could only be described as the biggest dog I'd ever seen, It was bolting towards us faster than I thought a beast of that size should be able to move. The guy who had grabbed me pulled out a knife and braced for the impact, the dog pounced, I heard a yelp. The dog fell off, but was soon back on it's feet. The guy lunged, but the dog leaped out of the way and bit the man's arm, forcing him to let go of the knife. I knew right then that the dog, was more than just big, it was also smart. It kicked the knife down a storm drain, there was silence, all the could be heard was the knife clacking off the walls and into darkness. The guy stood for a moment seeming to be trying to decide between fight or flight. The decision was made and he turned and ran. Leaving me alone with this unnatural creature.
It turned and looked at me. I tried to stand up but I was shaking so badly that it was impossible. The dog came closer to me, I crab-walked backwards away from it until my back was against the wall. Still it came closer. Until it sat right in front of me, looking at me with big brown, intelligent eyes. He seemed to have some emotion there, concern, perhaps maybe even... an apologetic look. Suddenly a crazy thought hit me like a truck. Could it be?
"CC?" I gasped. The dog wagged it's tail and licked my face, I pushed him away, those eyes, but it couldn't be true.
"Fine if you're CC, take me to our car," I said instantly I felt stupid, this was just some massive beast that for some reason decided to save my life. To my surprise the dog tugged on my sleeve, pulling me to my feet. Then began walking down the street, in the correct direction. I followed him, he passed car after parallel parked car, until he sat down right next to one in particular. Mine.
"Okay, I believe you, you're CC," The dog wagged his tail and then started pawing at the car door and whining softly. I guess he was ready to go home. I opened the door and let him in, he was so big that he could barely fit in the passenger's seat. I got in and drove, what else could I do. The whole ride home I tried to rationalize in my head what had happened, bur every time I found myself a loophole. The rest of the drive back was a blur. Before long I pulled in the drive way and let the dog, or CC, or what ever this is out. He walked straight up to the side door, where we always went in.
I walked in and sat on the couch. The dog sat in front of me, and I saw something that I couldn't believe I hadn't noticed earlier. The dog had on a necklace, the same one that CC wore all the time.
"Wow, it really is you," I said holding onto the charm. Then I noticed something else, something I wish I'd seen earlier, a dark glistening substance matted into his black fur. Blood.
