The "High School Experience"

Andy had only a few bruises and soreness but it was still evident that he was in pain.
His eyebrows were always scrunched up and he sometimes flinches and squeezes his eyes shut.
I can tell whatever they did to him must be more of an internal pain rather than external.
“Andy, why won’t you tell me what happened?” I question him once again as he lounges on my couch and I stand in the middle of the room, facing him.
“Kirsten! How many times do I have to say this? I can’t tell you or else you’ll…Like I said I can’t tell you, I’m sorry,” Andy grumbles and I let out another exasperated sigh. The air passing my lips heavily as the sound of my stress is released around the room.
“Why not! What can those people really do to you? Shouldn’t we tell the police or something if they’re threatening you!” I yell and throw my hands out, stretching my arms out in frustration.
“No! You know what, Kirsten I’m leaving. I don’t need you pestering me!” Andy yells back and lurches from his position on the couch to get his shoes on. He picks up one shoe as he shoves his foot into it.
“I’m not pestering you! I’m trying to figure out what the hell happened to you!” I yell again as tears begin to prick my eyes. He’s a stupid idiot. A stupid, stupid boy.
“I’m doing this to protect you!” He shouts and looks up at me, anger etching in his eyes as he glares at me.
“If this is how you protect me you might as well leave. I can protect myself Andrew! I forgot you before, I can forget you again if I need to! Because right now you’re just being an idiot Andrew!” I scream as the tears finally begin cascading down my face. He pulls on his other shoe and stand up.
“Don’t do this Kirsten. Are you really going to turn on me?” He whispers as he walks closer to me, his body mere feet from me. I cross my arms and look down at the carpet as I watch my tears fall to the ground.
“You’re stupid,” I mumble. I feel his thumb wipe away some of the water off my mascara smeared face.
“It’ll be okay Kirsten, shh” He whispers as his arms go around me.
“No it won’t Andrew! Why are you hiding things from me,” I whisper-yell as my arms are caught between pushing him away or pulling him closer.
“To protect you,” He mumbles and his arms tighten around me. No. I push against his chest making him release me.
“Get out Andrew. I don’t want to hear anymore of your I’m protecting you bull shit. I can protect myself! I have done it before! I know I have,” I yell as he looks down at me. His lips pull into a frown as he backs from me and nods.
“Fine Kirsten. I’ll leave if that’s what you really want from me,” He mumbles. More tears cascade down my face as probably, my last words I say to him fall from my lips.
“Don’t speak to me until you come to your senses. Now go home!” My voice cracks as my sobs etch into my throat. Making it difficult to breathe or see clearly. My shaky breaths are the only sound as he stares down at me.
“Fine. I’ll leave then,” Andrew says then turns from me, and makes his way to the door. The door opens and then slams shut just moments later.
This is his fault. Not my fault. His.
It’s his fault I’m crying, he’s lying to me and not telling me anything, it’s all his stupid fault.
I collapse to the ground from my previous standing state and cover my face as more sobs escape my throat.
Did we just break up?
