Land Of F.E.A.R

Running Wild

A world of hate awaits
We are The Wild Ones

The house was silent-not a soul was awake or even thinking of being awake at such an ungodly hour. Reese and Persephone-having gone up to his room after their little chat on the roof-had fallen asleep in Reese’s bed. They had done what they did every night, which was to go up to the attic, put a record on the player and just sit and listen to it. Music had always been forbidden by F.E.A.R and Perry could kind of understand why. So many songs she heard off of these records spoke of rebelling, of pushing against those who oppressed you and she could feel her spirit soar just listening to those words being spoken. Perry would lay there on her back, her red hair spread around her and she would either stare at the ceiling or close her eyes while the music played.

Music was obviously a window to another world and as she listened to it, Perry found herself transported. She would be taken to a world where they were free to come and go as they pleased-where people didn’t look in to their windows to make sure that their curtains or carpet were the right shade of gray. They were free to love who they wanted and Perry knew that a world like this had existed once. Now they were taken over by F.E.A.R and there would be no escape. Sometimes she cried as she listened to the music-she would cry as the words washed over her like a summer rain. Reese would say nothing, he would only bring her close, holding her to him as they sat on his floor and let the music engulf them.

Now they were both cuddled together under Reese’s blankets, his arms were wrapped tightly around her torso and it always made Perry feel save and cared for when they slept like this. If her mother and father knew that they were sleeping in the same bed-even the same room-they would not only kill Reese, but Perry as well. It shouldn’t matter though-the two teens had feelings for one another and would be married as soon as they could figure some things out. Perry hadn’t been sure about being with Reese, but after their talk on the roof Perry knew that her dreams were silly. The Wild Ones would never come for her…they probably didn’t even really exist.

A band of five guys who were out to save the world? This wasn’t a bed time story and as Perry laid in Reese’s arms and began to drift to sleep, she knew that she would be stuck in this life forever. She would marry Reese and maybe they would stay in Wickenburg, but most likely they would move to a bigger city where Reese could get a job that wasn’t in a factory. People who lived in bigger cities had alittle bit more freedom-the women were permitted to leave their homes twice a week to grocery shop and while it wasn’t much it was everything to Perry. Finally the two of them drifted off to sleep-peacefully curled together until a loud banging noise coming from down stairs broke the silence.

“Perry? Perry? Perry!” Reese whispered as he shook her shoulder and Persephone only groaned as she turned over and faced him. Her eyes were sleep filled and so Reese was looking pretty blurry at the moment, but she smiled at him none the less.

“What? Reese it’s not morning yet…go back to sleep…” She mumbled as she gripped his arm and pulled it around her middle a little bit tighter. Reese wasn’t going back to sleep though-he had heard a banging noise coming from the front door and now he could hear the faint sound of voices.

“I know it’s not morning…but there’s someone down stairs…” His voice was guarded and now Perry was wide awake. As she laid there with her head against the pillow, Perry could hear hushed voices coming up through the air vents in her house. Who was here? What did they want?

“Persephone…what if it’s the Guards…what if they found out about me?” He sounded panicked now and Perry could feel his fear enter her own soul. She sat up, looking around frantically until finally Perry spotted the area she had been seeking out.

While they had been cleaning up here Perry and Reese had discovered that there was a small alcove that sat right above their front door. It had a small door, with a lock, and it was the perfect size for one person to sit in-hide in. The two of them had agreed that should the Guards ever show up looking for Reese before her father had smoothed things over, that he would hide in there until they were done searching the house. Silently the two teens got out of bed and Reese rushed towards the small door. He yanked it open with so much force that the hinges groaned and Perry felt the tears come to her eyes. She couldn’t lose Reese-he was everything to her…he was her own personal bit of freedom.

“Stay in there until I call for you to come out. It’s going to be okay Reese…” Perry said as she watched Reese crawl into the small space and then look out at her with terror in his eyes.

“O-okay. Perry?” He said and she only smiled as Perry bent down to shut the door, but stopped as Reese reached out a hand and pulled her closer. Their lips met briefly and Perry only smiled as she pulled away and stared down at the only person in her life who understood her.

“Be careful okay?” Reese said and Perry only nodded her head as she shut the door and heard the lock click into place. She quickly shoved a clothing rack in front of the door-it would block the door, but it wasn’t heavy enough to trap Reese in there just incase he needed to get out.

Silently Perry walked across the attic floor, careful to step in certain places as there were boards that would creak and give away her location. The last thing they needed was for the Guards to think someone was sneaking up on them and then she could possibly be impaled on accident. Perry made it to the downstairs hallway and noticed that both her parents and her sister were awake and if she listened carefully she could hear their voices coming from downstairs. She could also hear other voices-male-and they sounded panicked. There was a crashing noise and Perry jumped as she stepped onto the first step and held her hand out to steady herself on the railing.

There were lights on downstairs and as Perry got closer she could now make out her father’s voice and someone else’s. They didn’t sound familiar and they didn’t sound angry-in fact that voice sounded panicked and as Perry reached the landing that over looked the living room she could now hear a low moaning sounding out. She jumped as she reached the bottom step-there were two guys standing by her front door and their appearance shocked her.

One was incredibly tall, his long black hair stringy and his bangs were held out of his face by a bandana. The other guy was shorter and Perry noticed that he also had black hair that was slightly higher in the back and she also noticed that he had two black stripes beneath one of his eyes.

Both men were wearing what looked to be leather pants and their boots were also leather and slightly dust covered as they stood there. Perry finally realized what they were doing-keeping guard over the house. As she passed them they both just looked at her, the taller one smiling and Perry saw that his serious brown eyes also held a bit of playfulness behind them. She pulled her gray sleep dress around her more-the sleevelessness of it made her feel slightly under dressed and she was kind of afraid of these random guys who were standing in her living room. Suddenly a loud cry broke the air and Perry rushed forward towards the kitchen, but stopped short in the doorway as she looked out on the site before her.

Three guys, all clad in leather, were sitting at her kitchen table while Maggie was over by the stove looking at them all warily. Her father was moving around the kitchen, gathering dish towels and hot water, but Perry noticed that her mother seemed to be the only calm one in the room. She was just sitting quietly beside one of the guys, cutting at the left sleeve of his leather jacket. Perry moved closer, but stopped as she noticed the pained look on the young man’s face and she also noticed the pool of blood that was collecting on the floor beneath him. The other two were sitting by, watching silently as her mother finished cutting and Perry gasped.

The arm before her eyes was mangled-covered in ink printing, but that was covered mostly in the blood that was flowing from a huge gash across the top of his white shoulder. The guy sitting in the chair grimaced and then looked up at her and Perry felt her heart stop beating. His eyes locked with hers-blue on blue-and Perry felt mesmerized. There was so much soul behind those eyes and as her mother poured a bit of water on his wounds, the guy cried out and bit down on his bottom lip. His long black hair-shaved on the sides with his bangs hanging in those blue eyes of his-hung down in a sheet and Perry didn’t know what to say. Thankfully her father filled in the silence for her as he looked towards his eldest daughter and nodded his head.

“It’s safe for Reese, Persephone.” He said as James turned to the two men sitting across the table from their injured friend. He had been sleeping peacefully when someone had knocked on the door and as he ran down and opened it he had been shocked at what he had found.

Five men standing on his doorstep, one of them gravely injured and another saying that he was Jinxx, his nephew and that they needed help. James had let them in, bringing them in to the kitchen as he called for his wife to come help. James watched as Perry ran up the stairs to get Reese and then he turned back to face the kitchen. Marguerite was silently standing by the stove, waiting for the pot of water to boil and James knew his youngest daughter felt frightened. She had never been around men before-other than him and Reese-and James knew it was making her nervous.

These men though-they were desert worn and looked like they had been walking all night. His nephew Jinxx, with his messy black hair and blue eyes like his mother, was sitting at the table, staring at his injured friend with a quiet concentration. The other was fidgeting silently, his black hair held out of his face by a strip of cloth and his bare arms were covered in smudges of dirt.

“What’s going on dad?” Someone asked from beside him and as James turned, he found his eldest standing at his side, Reese slightly behind her with fear in his green eyes. James said nothing as he looked over at his wife-her previous life as a nurse was paying off.

“Persephone, Reese…we have company…” He said as James moved to take a seat at the table and Perry only just looked around. Her mother was currently pulling a needle and thread through the guy’s arm and Perry felt her stomach lurch.

“I-I see that…” Perry said, crossing her arms over her chest and suddenly she felt like someone was behind her. The two guys from the door were behind she and Reese and as she looked over her shoulder, Perry noticed that the taller of the two was smiling at her gently.

“Persephone…I remember you. I’m Jinxx…your cousin.” One of the two guys sitting at the table had stood up and now Perry was being wrapped in a hug. His leather jacket rubbed against her skin and Perry felt a blush creep across her nose.

“I’m Ashley. That’s CC and Jake behind you and this little guy is Andy…The Prophet.” Ashley, the other guy sitting at the table smiled at her and Perry felt her jaw drop. The guy who her mother was currently taking care of had looked up, a twinkle in his blue eyes and Perry felt her heart speed up.

“It’s nice to meet you, although I would of rather it had been under better circumstances.” He spoke and Perry was shocked at how deep his voice was. He couldn’t be more than a few years older than she and Reese, but he seemed so aged…so war beaten.

“You…you’re…” She couldn’t speak, she was in such a state of shock that for once Persephone Jones was completely incapable of opening her mouth and making words. Andy only smiled at her, wincing as the needle met his skin again and yet he couldn’t help but smirk at the girl standing before him.

“We are the Wild Ones…” He said and Perry said nothing as she just looked around at the five guys standing in her kitchen and then collapsed in to a nearby chair.

They had come…the Wild Ones were here…but why?

@SummerTimeDreamer

Good thought, but it won't happen. Andy lost his true love and Perry lost her's-they're just friends.
