Land Of The Lost

Lynx Pov:

I leaned against the half wall in the watchtower across from CC. With the position of the moon, it was maybe eleven at night. Like most nights it was peacefully quiet, yet I couldn’t help but think that something was about to happen.

“I can’t decide if you’re overly happy or if you’re worried.” I looked up at CC and blushed lightly.

“A bit of both I suppose. I still feel like we’re being watched. I don’t know, there’s nothing visible out there, but I know that there’s something dangerous waiting for us.”

“What do you think? I mean if you’re convinced that something’s out there.”

“I think it’s F.E.A.R. I left him in the center of the prison as it was collapsing while I ran towards the entrance. The chances of him getting out are very high. I know he’s coming for revenge, but I don’t know what he’s going to do.”

“You think he’ll try to get you back?”

“I doubt it. I made it clear that I would kill him if given the chance. I’m not going to betray the Legion, I’d rather die before that happens.” CC put his hand on my shoulder in an act of comfort.

“I know you wouldn’t betray us. So we figured out why you’re worried. Now why are you overly happy?”

“That is not something I’m going to be talking to you about. You know, you’re almost worse than Ash when it comes to this.” I smiled and looked out over the desert.

“So you guys slept together then?” I laughed and blushed even more.

“Define ‘slept together’ because yes technically I did sleep in the same bed as him yesterday.”

“You know what I mean Lynx. Did you two have sex?” I looked away from CC and nodded, smiling a bit. “Was he any good?”

“Oh my god, why would you even ask that?!”

“So that’s a yes.” CC looked almost too pleased with himself.

“I’m pretty sure you and Ash are cut from the same cloth…you’re both fucking perverted assholes.”

“Aww Lynx that hurts.” CC put his hand dramatically over his heart, making me laugh.

“You’re lucky I don’t electrocute you for that.” I turned my attention back to the desert. “Think we should move to the next tower or is there a second group on watch?”

“We have people at every tower now. Do you want to walk through town, see if anything interesting happens?”

“Yeah, it’d be a bit more productive. The west gate has been too quiet; I say we check over there first.” We made our way down from the watchtower and towards the west gate. I paused in the ‘town square’ and looked around. “CC, what’s up with the lanterns?”

“Every year we have a ‘festival’ to honor those of the legion who were killed.”

“So the lanterns are for those who passed. That’s better than what F.E.A.R’s army did. If you were killed in battle, you were left where you fell.”

“That’s sad. Just being left to rot on the battlefield…How many friends have you lost Lynx?”

“A few, but I never allowed myself to mourn them. We were all ‘taught’ that if you were to fall in battle that’s the greatest honor you could ever wish for. But I do miss them. Kotta’s older brother is one that I miss almost more than any of the others. He was always like an older brother to me, so when we lost him I took it just as hard as Kotta did. But that’s in the past, and my only friends are here.” We continued to the west gate where we’d start walking around the town. I paused as soon as the gate came into view. There was someone standing in the open gateway, the two guards on the ground dead.

“Ah Lynnette, how nice to see you again.” I could almost swear that my blood ran cold at that the mans’ voice. “What? Not going to say hello to your father?”
