Land Of The Lost

Lynx Pov:

I was never one to have nightmares, yet I woke up screaming from whatever dream I had. The worst part was I couldn’t remember what it was about. Not that it mattered too much, there was no way that I was going to be sleeping anymore tonight. I leaned against the cool wall for a little bit before getting up and making something to eat. “I wonder if CC is up at this hour…he probably doesn’t have the night watch either…so sparing is out. Jinxx is either asleep or in the hospital, and if he’s at the hospital I don’t want to bother him.” Sighing I ran a hand through my hair before picking up a brush that I had left on the counter, pulled it through my hair before leaving the house.

My first destination was the armory where my blades were most likely being held. The usual guard stopped me at the door just as I was about to walk in. “Sorry miss, but only members of the legion are allowed within.”

“I am a member of the legion. Now let me through.” I glared at the man, pushed him aside and went in. I went to the back room where the leader’s weapons were held and picked up my blades from a shelf. They looked like they had been recently polished which made me happy. Whoever did, obviously knew how much the blades meant to me. I put the belts on that had the sheaths connected and instantly felt better, more secure.

The moment I stepped out of the armory, I had five of the town guards surrounding me, their spears aimed at my throat and chest. “Whoa, guys put the weapons down.I’m a member of the legion.”

“Which unit are you in? ”One of the closer guards asked.

“I'm…I haven’t been assigned a unit as of yet. Andy is thinking of putting me with either Jake or CC.” I didn’t dare move since that at any moment one of the guards could just end me.

“What’s going on here?” Jake asked as he walked up to the guards surrounding me.

“Jake, tell these guys I’m a member of the legion.” I looked up at him pleadingly.

“Guys, let her go. She’s a member of the legion, even if she hasn’t been assigned a unit. I don’t want to find you that any of you have given her a hard time again.” Jake put his arm around my shoulders and walked me back towards my house. “What was that all about?”

“I wanted my blades back. I didn’t feel comfortable without them so I figured they’d be at the armory. Then the town guards started acting like they were better than everyone.”

“There shouldn’t have been an issue with that.” We turned to go down the road to where my house was and saw that there was a house on fire a little farther down.

“Why do I have a feeling that that’s my place that’s gone up in flames…?” I sighed and slowed down. “Jake…it is my place isn’t it?”

“Yeah, let’s go see if anything else is being affected by the fire.” By the time we got to my place, the fire department had everything under control. “Hey, can you tell us what happened exactly?”

“Jake, it looks like someone purposely did this. Lynnette’s lucky that she wasn’t there. From what we can see, things are burned pretty bad in the bedroom and that’s where it looks like it started.”

“So…for now I’m essentially homeless aren’t I?”

“No, you can stay with Jinxx. I’m sure he’ll be pleased that you can stay with him.”

“So that’s what it was about then. Who sided with you Jake?”

“What are you talking about Lynx?”

“You guys placed a bet on me, too see how long it would take for me to move in with Jinxx. So who sided with you?”

“It scares me how you know all of this, but Ash is siding with me.”

“Jinxx doesn’t have any idea about the bet does he?”

“Nope. Now let’s get you to his place. I warn you, Sammi might be there.”

“Wait who is Sammi?”

“She works under Jinxx at the hospital. She likes him, bus as far as any of us know he doesn’t like her at all. And we all know Jinxx is very fond of you kitten.”

“Yeah, yeah just ‘escort’ me to his place.” I smiled a bit as Jake laughed at my order.

“Yeah, you and Jinxx make a good pair.” Jake led me right to Jinxx’s door and pounded on the door. “I wonder if he’s actually asleep, you know most normal people are at this hour.”

“Jake, normal is not a term used to describe us at all. Especially you. ”I slammed my fist against the door a few times and sighed. “I could just stay at your place or something.”

“As much as I’d love having you there, I don’t think Ella will appreciate it.”

“Ella doesn’t like me much does she?”

“No, not really. She doesn’t believe that you’re actually on our side.”

“That’s fine. God, Jinxx open the fucking door!” A few minutes later, Jinxx opened the door, only wearing a pair of thin pants.

“What the fuck do you want this early?”

“Lynx’s house caught fire and she has nowhere to stay for now. You mind taking her in or is Sammi here?”

“Why would Sammi be here? Fine, Lynx come in.” As soon as I walked in, he shut the door in Jake’s face.

“I’ll just sleep on the couch…sorry for bothering you.”

“Lynx it’s fine, really. Come on.”Jinxx led me to the bedroom and paused at the door. “You don’t mind sharing a bed do you?”

“Uh, no.It’s fine.” I took my belts off and set them on the floor at the foot of the bed and looked up at Jinxx, before slipping out of my pants and crawling into the bed, pressing myself as close to the wall as possible. A few seconds later, Jinxx was laying behind me, his arm over my waist. I sighed contently and managed to fall asleep for the second time that night.
