Blurry Waters

"Pay up." I said to Austin before he could even walk in the door. His mouth was still hanging open, but he managed to grab the crinkled $20 bill from his skinny jean pocket and walk to the living room.
"Thanks." I said, still grinning because I had just gained $10 from an idiotic bet I knew I was going to win. Walking into the living room, I realized Austin wasn't there. He'd walked directly to the kitchen to get a Coke. That obviously hit a circuit in Ashley.
"Why the fuck did he just walk in the kitchen like it was his house?"
"Ash, because it basically is his house. He spends the night all the time, he's my bestfriend and has been since the day I was born." Saying those words obviously seemed to calm Ashley down, but there was a tension in the room.
