Together Burning Bright

New Year, New Nursery

The house was dead silent. Not a noise could be heard, no televisions were blaring, no one was yelling out and Winnie wasn’t barking his head off. The halls were mostly dark, except one light that was coming from a bed room on the second floor. Everything was peaceful, quiet and all that could be heard was the large grandfather clock in the hallway ticking as the time got closer and closer to midnight.

Dess and Andy were standing outside a closed door, Dess squeezing his hand gently as she looked up at him. This was it-today was their anniversary and she had a great surprise for him. All week after their family and friends had left, Dess had been busting her ass to get things done in this room and the timing had worked out perfectly.

“Can I open my eyes yet?” Andy asked, his voice low and Dess only giggled as she reached out and twisted the knob in front of her. They had been trying to figure out what to do for their anniversary this year and when Dess had finished all of the painting for the nursery the day before, she had gotten the perfect idea.

“Not yet.” She said as the door creaked open at her touch and Dess placed her hands on Andy’s arms. They moved forward, he walked slowly with Dess leading the way and Andy only cocked an eyebrow as he sniffed the air. Fresh paint, new wood and a faint scent of baby powder-he was smiling as Andy figured out where he was and what was going on.

They were in their daughter’s room.

“Come on Dess…”Andy pleaded, his voice desperate as he moved his head to the left where he could hear her giggling softly. This had been something that he had wanted for a very long time and now it was finally happening. He was going to be a father and Andy could hardly wait for spring to get here.

“Alright-open your eyes…” Dess said softly and she smirked as Andy’s blue eyes popped open and he looked around them. His face was layered with a look of excitement and then awe and then he got tears in his eyes. Dess moved around the room, her hands running over the smooth wood of the crib and she couldn’t keep the smile off of her own face.

The walls had been painted in a beautiful mural, with two walls being covered in a midnight blue paint, while the other were grayish white. Andy looked around, his mouth open in shock as he tried to take everything in, but there was so much to look at. Dess had out done herself, with hand painted characters from the Batman universe, except they were done in a very childlike and cartoon fashion.

There was Batman and Andy smirked as he noticed that Batman looked strikingly like someone with blue eyes and black hair-himself. Beside Batman stood another figure-Batwoman…Odessa. Andy felt like crying in that moment as he turned around and looked at all of the hard work that Dess had put in to this in such a short time. It wasn’t even just the paintings on the walls, but other little things.

The crib was lined with yellow fabric and that fabric was dotted with tiny black bats, Andy couldn’t help but run his fingers over the soft cloth as he passed by the crib on his way towards some of the other pieces in the room. There was a rocker in one corner next to something that he could only assume would be used as a changing table.

Everything seemed so strange to him-he had no idea what any of this stuff was and he knew that it was probably a good thing that they were going to be on a break for the next month so that he could read up on some things. Dess was standing behind him quietly with her arms crossed over her chest, her belly stretching the t-shirt that she was wearing. It was the night of their anniversary-it was almost midnight and Andy couldn’t think of a better way to top off an already good night.

Andy had started off the day with making breakfast and then bringing it to Dess as she laid in bed-pancakes and eggs, which had been something that she was craving all their time on tour. Then they both laid in bed for an hour or two, watching random cartoons while Winnie and the cats all cuddled themselves around the couple. At about noon the couple got up, smirking as they both got into the shower before heading off to do some small shopping.

Andy had never liked shopping before, but being with Dess while doing it somehow made the process more enjoyable. Their day finally came to an end with a romantic dinner at a small restaurant in Old Town and now here they were-Dess having surprised him with the best thing ever.

“Babe this is beyond amazing…I-I…there are no words for this right now.” Andy said as he turned around in a full circle and each time he looked before him he found another detail. The midnight blue walls held a mural of a city scape and Andy could only smirk as he took in each character-Robin, Catwoman, The Penguin, The Joker…all of them were there.

“You-speechless? Now that is amazing.” She was laughing at him and Andy only smirked, his grin lopsided as he moved towards her.Andy wrapped his strong arms around her small frame and Dess only smiled softly as she rested her head against his chest.

“This is so perfect babe…”Andy was still in awe as he looked around and noticed all of the small details. All of the instruments that the guys had gotten them for Christmas were set up in one corner of the room and Andy smiled as he noticed that all of her little onesies and clothes had been put away in a black dresser that sat underneath the window overlooking the backyard.

“Well I figured we could start her off in the right way.” Dess laughed as she looked up, her moss green eyes staring in to his light blue ones. They were standing in the middle of the room, their arms wrapped around one another and she couldn’t think of a more perfect anniversary.

Odessa knew that she only had a certain amount of time to get this room done before she would be too tired to stay on her feet for more than an hour at a time. So after everyone had left, she had busted ass trying to get everything base painted and then she could start on the mural. She knew that she had wanted to give the room a Batman theme, but she didn’t really know to what extent. After she had begun to paint, Dess just went with her gut and this was the result. As she looked around the room, Dess felt her heart grow warm.

This would be the room that her little girl would sleep in-grow up in. Soon the crib would be replaced by a small bed, the walls might be painted over with a different color. Then the walls would be covered in posters of her favorite bands and Dess would have to scold her to keep things clean. Hopefully the other rooms would be transformed in to nurseries and then bedrooms-Dess knew Andy wanted more than one child.

“What’s that smile for?” Andy asked, looking down at her and Dess only sighed. This had never been her dream-to get married and have kids, but after meeting this wonderful guy before her…Dess couldn’t imagine ever waking up.

“Just thinking about the future.” She said, her voice soft and dreamy sounding as Andy kept his arms wrapped around her tightly. He could feel the baby kicking against the side of Dess’ stomach and he silently wondered what that little bean was doing in there.

“Our future?” Andy asked as they began to sway softly. There was no music, but that was okay-they would dance to their own music as long as they were together.

“Yes. Just imagining being down stairs, the house filled with music so loud that the walls shake and then yelling up the stairs for her to turn it down. You know we’ll probably hate her choices in music…” Dess said, laughter in her voice and Andy only shook his head. His daughter was only going to be brought up on the best music-he would make sure of it.

“Oh I can imagine it, but I doubt that her music tastes will be anything that we don't like. With a father like me and uncles who all have fantastic taste in music…she’ll be rocking out by the time she’s four.” He laughed then, throwing his head back and Dess took the opportunity to lightly kiss the skin of his neck.

“What are you going to do if she is a total pop lover? You can only mold and shape your kids so much babe.” Dess mused and Andy only rolled his eyes as he rested his chin on top of her head and sighed. Their lives had been so hectic lately and they had both been so worried about things over the summer that this felt nice-just being with Dess in such a peaceful setting…it was comforting.

“I know that if I or Ashley have anything to say about it she will be rocking out to KISS and Motley by the time she can walk.” Dess laughed as he spun her around, kissing her lips as she came back towards him and he took one of her hands in his own.

“What about when she gets old enough to make her own music choices?” Dess was teasing him now, but she just loved to see that pinched scowl cross his face as he looked down at her. His blue eyes were squinting as he looked at her and Dess only smirked up at him with a cute look on her face.

“Now you’re just busting my balls…” He said and Dess only nodded as his lips met hers and she felt like her knees were going to give out. His lips were soft and his passion was evident and Dess could only smile against his skin as she felt his hands wrap themselves in her long blonde hair.

“I will always bust your balls Biersack. It’s what makes me so adorable and charming.” Dess said as she pulled away from Andy and walked towards the small dresser. Her fingers touched the soft onsies that laid ontop-they were every color, from pink to black and polka dotted. She was having a little girl-that fact was made more and more clear every day and now it was staring her right in the face.

“That and the fact that I love you…will always love you.” He said from behind her and Dess smiled softly to herself as she turned and faced him. The clock struck twice outside in the hall and Dess knew that they only had a few minutes until midnight. Then it would be a new year with many new adventures ahead of them.

“You seem so sad all of a sudden. What happened? We were talking about the baby and her early music choices and now you look like you want to cry…”Andy did have tears in his eyes and Dess felt like her heart had broken in two as she looked at him. His lip was trembling and he was sniffing, trying to keep his tears from surfacing.

“What if…what if our daughter gets sick…what if we lose her just like we lost Moira?” His voice was so soft that Dess could hardly hear him. Soon enough she was in his arms, his cheek resting against the top of her head as he held on to her tightly. She knew this had been a fear of his, but he had never expressed it to her so bluntly.

“Babe-there is very little we can do to prevent it if it does happen. I can promise you that we will get her checked every six months with a specialist until you no longer worry about it. Other than that there really isn’t much we can do. I’m sorry my gene pool sucks.” She chuckled towards the end and Andy only smiled, his lips pressing against the top of her head.

“I know, but I can’t help but worry about her…about both of you.” Odessa smiled softly as she pulled away and then stood on her tip toes. Her lips barely reached his and as they touched the clock struck midnight. It was now 2014-a new day and a new year.

“This is new years day…so rise from the ashes!” Dess sang and Andy only groaned as he shook his head, his black hair falling in his face.

“You’ve been waiting all year for that haven’t you…” Andy said as he grabbed for her hand. It was time to get in bed, lay down and cuddle while they watched a movie. It had been a great year for the Biersacks and they both knew that 2014 would prove to be even better.

“Oh you know it. You totally set yourself up for that one Biersack…just wait until you check Twitter tomorrow.” Dess laughed as she walked out of the room, but stopped in the doorway and looked over her shoulder. The room was so peaceful and she could only smile as Dess flicked off the light but left the door wide open.

Spring couldn’t get here fast enough…

Notes

Cute and fluffy chapter for New Year's Day.

So, I know these chapters are going by pretty slowly, but they are going to go even slower if I only update this every four days to a week, which it's looking like I might because people are being pretty quiet. The baby isn't born until around chapter 20...so we have a long way to go guys...don't make it longer than it has to be.
