Roommate Situation
Trial Period
“Do I have to turn off my phone?”Austin mumbled into the phone.“If I knew you were going to call every few minutes I would have stayed there.”
“My roommate is horrible.”I said into the phone.
“Which one?”Austin asked sounding uninterested but he was just asking me to make me feel better.
“Andy.He doesn’t seem to like me.”I answered.
“What an asshole.”He responded nonchalantly, again probably just for my benefit.
“Can’t you stay the night or something?”I asked.
“I don’t think that would be beneficial to you.You need to spend your first night there alone.Remember?”
I had told him that I needed to be a grown up and under no circumstance was he to spend the night.Why had I been so stupid to tell him that?“Well when the hell have you ever listened to me?”
“Now.”He responded.“Now I’m going to turn off my phone.You put your big girl panties on and deal with it yourself or don’t.Lock yourself in your room and write yourself a tragic song about how nobody likes you or whatever.”
“Gee, that’s awesome advice.”I said sarcastically.
“I know I’m just an awesome individual.So see you tomorrow right?”
“If my roommate doesn’t sacrifice me to whatever god he prays to first.”I mumbled.
“That’s what you thought of Oli and now you’re great friends.Just remember to keep your crucifix on you at all times and you’ll be fine.”
“Whatever.”I said with a sigh.“See you tomorrow.”
“Bye.”Austin said and then hung up.
I laid back on my bed and let out a big breath.I looked over at my acoustic guitar and sighed.I sat back up, grabbing it.I wasn’t in the mood to write but that didn’t mean I didn’t want to play.I started strumming the song ‘Crucify Me’ by Bring Me the Horizon and started singing.“Crucify me, and nail my hands to a wooden cross, There is nothing above, there is nothing below, Heaven and Hell lives in all of us, And I’ve been cast astray, I am an ocean, I am a sea, There is a world inside of me.”Before I could get through my rendition of the song there was a knock on the door.I paused for a second and then decided to just ignore it.I picked up at another part further in the song.“If we make it through the night, If we make it out alive, Lord have mercy and pray for the dead.”The person knocked again.Obviously they were persistent.I put my guitar down on my bed and answered the door.
It was Andy at the door.“I was told by Jake that I was an asshole and should apologize to you.”Andy said looking at me.“So I’m sorry that I was such an asshole to you.”
I stood there for a second trying to decide how to respond.“So you have a Jiminy Cricket too?”
Andy looked at me confused, “What?”
“A person who tells you what’s wrong and what’s right.Like the cricket from Pinocchio.”I explained.“Austin is mine and I’m guessing Jake is yours.I’m always running my mouth and getting myself in trouble.Austin usually either stops me or gets me out of the trouble.”
Andy smiled, “Then I guess everybody is my Jiminy Cricket.Did you write that song that you were playing?”
“That rendition of it.”I answered.“It’s Crucify Me by Bring Me the Horizon.It’s a very heavy song with unclean vocals and all that jazz.Kinda can’t exactly do that with only an acoustic guitar.”
“It was pretty good.”He commented.
“Thank you.”
“So Jake and I were going out to eat would you like to come?”
I thought about it for a second.I still wasn’t too sure about him.But I was hungry and there wasn’t any food currently in the house.I nodded, “Yeah I’ll come.”

“So what is it that you do?”Jake asked shoving some fries into his mouth.
“Singer, song writer, guitar player extraordinaire.”I answered and took a sip of my drink.“You guys?”
“Guitar player.”Jake answered.
“We’re in a band called Black Veil Brides.I’m the lead singer and master mind behind it all.”Andy answered.
“I’ve heard about you guys.”I said faintly remember hearing some stuff about them.“Everyone thinks you guys are assholes.”
Andy shrugged his shoulders, “Doesn’t make one difference to me.They can think whatever they want.”
“What genre of rock would you say that you’re in?”I asked, not having heard anything by them before.
“I don’t believe in the whole genre of rock thing.Rock is rock.”Andy replied.
“If you look at your music library they usually classify us as metal.”Jake answered.“Andy just like to get all philosophical about shit.He just likes listening to himself talk.”
I laughed, “I like you; you’re straight forward.”
“And what you hate me?”Andy asked.
“The first time I met you, you insulted me.You’re in a trial phase.I still haven’t decided whether or not I like you particularly.”I explained.
“That makes sense.”Jake chimed in.
“You’re my friend and supposed to be on my side.”Andy said to Jake.
“Yeah but she likes me and you were a jerk to her.I’m only being logical.”Jake clarified to Andy.“Maybe if you were nicer to people you just meet.”
“Hey I’m a nice person.”Andy stuffed some fries into his mouth.
“Still in the trial phase.”I replied.
“How long will it last?”He asked clearly slightly annoyed.
“I thought you didn’t care what people thought?”I pointed out remembering that he said that he didn’t care if people thought he was an asshole.
“That doesn’t answer my question.”
I smirked, “I’ll give you two weeks to change my opinion of you.”
“I’m up for the challenge.”He smiled back.“You’ll love me by the end.”
I doubt it.I thought to myself.
