Smoke and Mirrors
A little dancer
It's been two weeks since Kayleigh and I kissed. A week since we made our relationship official. By that I mean I officially asked her to be my girlfriend. That's it. Today, Kayleigh is going down to her mothers dance studio and teaching a hip hop class. Apparently before she rebelled she was a straight A student and hip hop dancer. I can't wait to see her dance.
"Babe, get Kellin. We've got to go." Kayleigh says. She wears a black tube top that shows off her pale flat stomach, red sweat capris, and a pair of red and black sneakers. She turns toward the mirror and puts a belly button ring in. The only makeup she wears is waterproof eyeliner. She looks so different.
I grab Kellin and we are out the door. We get in a taxi and head down to the studio. We we walk in everyone greets Kayleigh happily. Finally, a woman with blonde hair and green eyes comes forward.
"Daughter, it is excellent to see you. Class my daughter Kayleigh will lead you." Kayleigh's mother says before disappearing.
A hip hop song plays and I find myself watching Kayleigh. Her movements are precise yet fluid. The song switches and she leads Kellin and I out with her. We dance together and the class stops to watch. I keep up with her easily. We preform a few lifts before the music stops and a woman I recognize all too well steps forward.
"Ashley Purdy, welcome home."
My mother.
