Explanation
"Where's Logan?" I asked when Andy came back with my band.
"He refused to come," Tara said softly. "Said he didn't want to hear it and that he was done."
"Ass," I growled. "But I was going to tell him the same way anyways because of how he acted last night."
CC sat on the couch next to me and I grabbed the nearest stuffed animal, which was a fuzzy zebra. I explained everything, squeezing the zebra when it hurt and wishing for more ice cream.
By the time I finished, I was sobbing. CC was rubbing my back comfortingly, Tara was trying to elaborate quietly for Kazuo, and Andy had tears streaming down his face, though he wasn't making a sound.
"Did you really go through all that and disappear to protect me?" he asked quietly. I nodded, unable to find my words. Rage flashed through his eyes as he snarled, "I'll kill that bastard!"
"Don't let me miss out," CC growled. "I get the headshots."
"And I get the flamethrower," Tara finished. "Son of a bitch won't even know what hit him."
"You guys are the best," I choked out, trying to smile. "I couldn't ask for a better group of friends."
"We all love you," CC murmured in my ear so no one else could hear. "Especially me." I smiled.
"Here's the big question," Andy said. "What do you want us to call you?"
"I've been Katie for so long," I said softly. "But it's time to be me again. I'll go by Alex."
Andy smiled warmly, "I'm glad to hear that."
I changed the subject, "Hey, we've got a show tonight, right?"
"Yeah," Jake said.
"I should get back to my bus, then," I said, standing up. "I've got to get ready; I'm going to tell everyone about my name change."
"We'll see you tonight then," Andy said, giving me a hug.
"That you will," I smiled. "Better than ever."
