What It Is To Burn

Mother Dess Is On The Loose

Odessa smirked as she stood on the side of the stage, watching as the guys all revved themselves up to get out there and perform for their fans. It was their last show in Texas-Houston- and Dess was sad as she had been enjoying the warm weather. Thankfully they were headed towards Florida next, but then they would slowly make their way up north and Dess was dreading it. She watched, a sick smirk on her face as the Overture started and CC was the first to run out. Andy leaned down, placing a quick kiss to her lips before running out on to the stage behind Ashley. Jinxx and Jake had started in on Bulletproof and Dess moved closer to the stage so that she could look out, her eyes focusing on CC.

The drummer looked confused as he went to kick his bass drum, but nothing was happening. The drum tech, Mark, smiled at her widely and winked at Dess as she just stood there with that smile on her face. Dess had thought of the perfect prank for CC-disable his drum kit for the first song. Mark had removed the screws to the pedal and she laughed, doubling over as CC went to hit a cymbal and it spun quickly and fell to the ground, making a huge clashing sound. Andy looked back at CC, his eyes squinting and then that smirk graced his lips as he looked over to Dess and addressed the audience.

“Sorry guys! It seems CC is having a bit of trouble…hang on for us for just one minute!” Andy smiled out into the crowd, who only cheered as Jinxx and Jake began to play random chords on their guitars while Mark ran out and fixed CC’s drum kit.

“What did you do man?” Ashley asked as CC just stood up, shrugging his shoulders as Dess just stood by watching as she tried not to laugh too hard.

“Get it together C!”Jinxx yelled into Andy’s mic as he passed and Dess burst out laughing, she laughed so hard the she hiccuped and then she noticed that she had caught CC’s attention.

“Odessa!” He shouted, but since he didn’t have a mic-except for the ones hooked up to his kit, no one really heard him besides Dess, Andy and Ashley-who were all standing close enough.

“Don’t ever fuck with my underwear again Coma…” Dess snarled playfully as she stood there with her hands on her hips and smirked up at the pissed off drummer.

Finally Mark was able to get everything screwed in and the guys started everything over, the crowd going wild as they played. The album had dropped less than a week ago and already it was number seven on the Billboard Top 200 chart. Dess watched as Andy moved around on stage, coming up and throwing his arms around Jinxx’s shoulders and then he and Ashley would goof around for a bit. Dess was happy to see the guys enjoying themselves so much and she could only hope that the rest of the tour would go on in this exact way.

“Has anyone seen Ashley? It’s almost three and we have to get going.” Dess asked the group that sat around her and everyone shrugged their shoulders. The show was finished and while the guys and Dess had partied a little bit backstage, most everyone had just wanted to come back to the bus and crash. Everyone except Ashley.

“He’s probably in that bar down the street-scoping out his next girl of the night.” Andy laughed as he ran his fingers through Dess’ hair, his other hand running down Winnie’s back as the group all sat around the front lounge, watching a movie while they waited for things to get rolling.

“Well we need to get going. What was the name of the bar?” Dess asked as Jake looked up at her from the floor, his face wary as Dess smiled down at him innocently.

“Mack’s Sports Bar…why?” The guitarist asked as Dess just smirked widely and moved to get up off the couch. She was the only one still dressed and so she hastily put on her shoes and kissed Andy quickly on the lips.

“Don’t embarrass him too bad babe!” Andy called after her as Dess just waved a hand at him and began to walk down the bus steps.

Dess reached the bottom of the steps and looked to her left and then right, smirking as she saw the bright lights of the bar off in the distance and without hesitating she headed left down the street. No one was really out at this point, with it being almost three in the morning and most bars were starting to shut things down. She walked down the road quickly, her eyes scanning the dark alleyway as Dess hugged her hoodie around her body more-they were in Texas but she was still feeling sick and so she was always cold. Finally Dess came to stand outside of the large glass doors of the bar, the neon “Mack’s Sports Bar” shining down on her as Dess inhaled deeply and walked into the dim looking establishment.

It reeked of smoke in there and Dess coughed loudly as she scanned the room. Every available surface on the walls were covered with televisions-all of them replaying old sports games and Dess turned her attention towards the main bar. There were still a few people milling about, most of them looked like they had come from the guys concert and finally her eyes came to rest upon her target. Ashley was leaning up against the bar, his cowboy hat titled down to cover his eyes as he flirted with the buxom blonde that stood in front of him. Dess smirked, rubbing her hands together as she sauntered over towards the bassist, his eyes growing wide as he noticed her approaching.

“Ashley-baby-it’s time to get back on the bus now…” Dess said, her voice taking on a light and airy tone as she batted her eyelashes at him. He was holding them up-so of course she was going to take this chance to embarrass him and ruin his game a little bit.

“I-uh-hey Dessh…” He slurred the last few words and in that instant Dess knew that he was drunk. She moved so that her arm was draped over his shoulder as Dess took in the blonde girl before them. Fake lips, fake tits and fake hair-typical Ashley.

“Hi Ash…time to get on the bus…” Dess said as she started to steer the drunken bassist towards the door, but he pulled back against her, not giving up so easily.

“Amber and I-you’re name is Amber right? Well, anyways, we were just about to head back and have a little party…”Ashley smirked at Amber and then looked down at Dess, his brown eyes confused as he took her in.

“Not tonight Ash…” Dess said as she began to drag him by the arm towards the door. Everyone in the bar was watching them now and Dess only hoped that he wouldn’t put up a fight as she tried to get him to leave.

“Uck…fine. Bye Ashley!” Ash sighed as he waved to the girl that he was leaving behind and Dess could only shake her head at his ridiculous antics as they hit the street and she let go of his arm. She followed behind him as Ashley wove around, almost falling twice before they thankfully reached the bus.

“You know that girl is probably crying right now because you kept forgetting her name…” Dess smirked as Ashley struggled to get up the stairs and took a seat halfway up and looked down at Dess, his face sad.

“Don’t care. Why do you have to love Andy so much? What about me?” He pouted down at her and Dess looked at him then, her eyes squinted as she tried to figure out what he was getting at.

“Um because I just do. Come on Ash…get up the stairs…” She sighed, moving to push her hands against his chest but Ashley was quick and grabbed for her hands, holding them in his tightly, pressing their clasped hands against his chest.

“I could make you happy…happier than he could.” Dess sighed as Ashley looked up at her, his brown eyes bleary looking but she could tell he was being sincere.

“Alittle help please!” Dess called over his shoulder as Ashley held her there and suddenly Andy appeared, towering over the both of them as he looked down at her with a bemused smirk.

“Having trouble?” Andy asked as he walked down a few steps and set his hands on Ashley’s shoulders.

“Uh yeah.” Dess said, her eyes wide as she rolled them and then moved to help Andy with the drunken bassist.

The two of them were able to get Ashley into his bunk, throwing him in there to sleep it off and soon the bus was under way. Dess and the guys stayed up for a little longer but after four straight days of shows all of them were exhausted and so soon all of them began to trickle back to their own beds. Dess and Andy were the last to get to sleep, but Dess knew that her sleep would not be peaceful since she had not been feeling too good, which scared her more and more every day.

Dess rolled over, her feet sticking from out of the blanket and she shivered as she looked down and saw that Winnie was sleeping on top of Andy’s feet. Andy was still snoring softly from beside her, clearly exhausted and Dess wanted to allow him to sleep as much as possible. So, very carefully, she stretched her arms above her head and moved to shimmy over him to get out of their bunk. Someone else was up, Dess could tell by the faint noise coming from the front of the bus and she quietly poked her head back in, looking at Winnie to see if he needed to go out. He did. So after leashing him and groggily walking towards the front, Dess was now standing outside, the bus having stopped at their venue after a day and a half ride from Texas to Florida, but it was still slightly chilly.

“Come on baby…do your business so Mommy can go back inside and drink her first cup of coffee of the day…” Dess whined as Winnie sniffed around and finally settled on a good spot to do his thing. Dess was practically nonfunctioning without at least one cup of coffee in the morning and she was so grateful to Andy for getting her such a wonderful machine as her Keurig.

Finally Winnie was done doing his thing and Dess walked slowly back towards the bus, her eyes taking in her surroundings and she smiled. Palm trees, sun and the slightly humid air made Dess smile as she remembered her family vacationing down here. They would be here for two days, both shows being one right after the other and then the tour would head North through Georgia, hitting Maryland, Pennsylvania and New York with various other stops before ending in early February. Then it was off to the UK for a short stint on the Kerrang Tour and then it was back to the States. Dess felt like her head was going to spin off of her shoulders as she thought about it and she knew that she needed some coffee before delving any deeper into their hectic schedule.

“Morning Jake…” Dess said as she made her way up the stairs and came upon Jake, who was currently laying on the couch, wrapped in a Spiderman blanket as he watched his early morning cartoons.

“Morning…” He mumbled, never taking his eyes off of the television and Dess just smiled. She unleashed Winnie, laughing as the small dog jumped up onto the couch and snuggled against Jake’s side, the guitarist reaching out a hand to pat him on the head.

Dess just smiled as she moved around the kitchen, opening a cabinet above her head to remove her favorite oversized coffee mug and she looked down towards the counter to look over her options for coffee flavor. Coconut Chocolate, Cinnamon Nut, or French Vanilla? Dess picked up a Coconut Chocolate K-cup and moved to place it into her Keurig. She scanned her eyes over the counter, not seeing her beloved machine and Dess wondered if one of the guys had moved it in a small bout of cleaning that didn’t happen very often.

Nope, it was nowhere on the counter and soon Dess was opening cabinet after cabinet to search for her machine. Her head was beginning to pound and Dess knew she would need her coffee if she was going to make it through the day. Turning to face the front of the bus, Dess walked over to where Jake still laid and stood right in front of the television, her hands on her hips as she looked down at him.

“Alright Pitts…where is my Keurig?” She asked as Jake tried to look around her and finally realizing that he wouldn’t be able to see much, Jake looked up at her and shrugged.

“How should I know?” Jake said, his eyes looked into hers and Dess grumbled as she moved back into the kitchen, her hands gripping the side of the counter. Suddenly someone was behind her and as Dess turned around, she was met with Jinxx-her coffee lover in crime as he looked at her sleepily.

“Have you seen it Jinxx?” Dess asked sadly as the other guitarist looked around her, his eyes growing wide as he noticed the absence of their shared beloved coffee maker.

“No…but we need to find it.” Jinxx said, his voice desperate as he joined Dess in searching the cabinets again to see if she had missed it.

“What’s going on?” Andy asked from behind her, his voice low and deep as he stood there, a hand rubbing the back of his neck as Dess looked at him wildly.

“Someone moved the Keurig…” She said, her voice whinny and weak as Andy just came to her, wrapping his arms around her shoulders. He knew that without coffee, Dess was prone to acting like a five year old and he also knew that Jinxx could get pretty cranky himself, so Andy hoped that the machine had only been misplaced, but he had a feeling that wasn’t what the deal was.

“Uh…you may want to go ask CC…”Andy said as Dess’ eyes grew wide and she flew past him on her way back towards the bunks. CC’s bunk was across from theirs and below Jake’s so Dess knew exactly where to find him.

“CC!” She shouted as Dess flung open the curtain and looked down on a still sleeping CC.

“Christian Coma!” Dess shouted as CC jumped in his sleep and looked up at her, a smirk coming to his lips as he took in her wild appearance as she stood over him with her hands on her hips.

“What Dess? God what time is it?” CC asked as he sat up slightly, stretching his skinny arms up over his head as he looked up at her.

“It’s time for you to give me my fucking Keurig back you asshole!” She shouted at him, reaching down to grab him by the collar as Dess tugged him up and out of the bunk. She smacked him against the wall and CC looked really scared as he looked down at Dess, her eyes were angry as she looked up at him and CC began to realize that maybe hiding the Keurig wasn’t such a funny prank after all.

“Fine! It’s in the back lounge underneath the couch…crazy!” CC called after Dess as he watched her stalk back towards the back of the bus and he couldn’t help but smirk at his own hilarious prank.

She had wanted a war and CC was only giving Dess exactly what she asked for.

Notes

Dess without coffee is like me without coffee and that's never a pretty site to behold.

Friendly reminder that this Sunday will be the last day I will be updating for about a week. So get those reviews in now because if I get enough love over the next few days then I will leave you guys with a small snippet from Andy and Dess' long awaited wedding.

@Broken Wing
Here's my problem, though. As I am starting the final series, I won't be able to go to my regular computer because it's broken, and I can't view certain chapters on my iPad. So now my mom knows why I'm suddenly in a bitchy mood. :/
