You Saved Me

The Call

Katie's POV: When we get to my place, I run inside to grab my overnight bag and tell my brother's Ashley's going to take me to school tomorrow. They agree, and tell me that I can stay there as long as I want, just that I need to be home Thursday after school. I agree with them, then I grab my backpack, then my overnight bag, and place my laptop in the backpack with my phone and laptop charger. I then run into my bathroom to grab what I need from there, and pack it in my smaller toiletry bag.
I run back to my closet then, and grab 4 different outfits, along with 3 pairs of PJ's, and Jayy helps me fold them. When we're done, I slip the clothes into my overnight bag, set the smaller bag on top of my clothes, then shut the bag.
"You got your pills?" Jayy asked.
"Yep," I say, hugging him, then Dahvie.
"Take care of yourself, kiddo," Dahvie says, kissing the top of my head, then letting go.
"Always do," I tell him, with a smirk, then I grab my bags and head out to the car again.
Once I'm inside the car, I skoot over close to Ashley, who in turn, smiles down at me as he wraps me in his warm arms. He kisses me, then smirks and says, "Told you I'd get that kiss sooner or later."
Damn it! How can one man be so irresistible? I roll my eyes at him then, and say, "Smart ass."
"Ah, but I'm your smart ass," he says, as Ella drives us to his place.
"True," I sigh, rolling my eyes at him again and leaning into him more. He then gently nuzzles his nose in my hair, while Ella pulls into his driveway.
"We're here, you two lovebirds," she says in her sweet English accent.
"Thanks for driving us, El," Ashley says, opening the door and getting out. He then turns to me and helps me out, as I thank Ella, and grab my bags.
"Not a problem, love," she tells me, then once we were inside, she drives off.
Later Ashley and I were cooking dinner...well, actually more like, he was cooking, I was setting the table and getting him what he needed, since I can't really cook much. I'm absolutely hopeless when it comes to cooking a real meal.
Anyway, as we're doing our own thing, my phone plays Rebel Soul by Kid Rock, and I quickly answer, already knowing it's Red.
"Hey, Red. What's up?" I say, as I hold the phone between my cheek and shoulder, so I can continue to work.
"A-a lot," she say, her voice cracking, and I drop the plate in my hand onto the counter with a loud clank.
"What's wrong, Red?" I ask, my voice laced with a thick amount of worry.
"C-can I c-come over?" she sobs into the phone. Red? Sobbing? That's totally a new concept to me, and I don't like it.
"Yeah. Of, course. I'll call Rocket so he can drive you here. I don't want you driving in your condition. I'm at Ashley's," I tell her.
"O-okay," she sobs, "Th-thank you, M-Mic."
"It's alright. I'm going to hang up now though, so I can call Rocket, then I'll call you back," I tell her.
"O-okay. Thanks again," she says a little calmer than before.
"Anytime. I know you'd do the same for me," I tell her, then we hang up, and before Ashley can even open his mouth, I'm calling Rocket.
"Hello," he says on the third ring.
"No time to explain. Just get in your car, drive to Red's, pick her up and bring her to Ashley's. It's important," I rally off quickly.
"Got it," he says without questioning me, then hangs up.
As I go to call Red back, Ashley grabs my arm and asked, "Katie, what's going on?"
"It's Red," I whisper.
"I got that, but what about her?" he asked, gently leading me to one of the chairs at the bar area. He then helps me onto one of them, and once I'm sitting I finally realize how badly I'm shaking.
"She called me crying her eyes out and asking if she could come over," I tell him, my voice trembling slightly.
"Do you know why?" he asked.
"N-No. She didn't say," I stammer.
"Alright. It's going to be alright, baby. Don't worry. Sit here and call her back now, okay?" he gently says, getting up, and passing my phone back to me.
I nod, then call her back, talking to her and calming her until I hear a knock on the front door, but as I go to stand, Ashley pushes me back down in my seat, and walks to the door. A few moments pass, then he returns to the kitchen, and leading Red and Rocket to me.
I then stand up and race over to close the gap between Red and me. I hold her tight as she sobs into my shoulder, and lead her to the stool next to mine.
Once she's steadied on the stool, I sit down while Rocket sits behind her. I take her hands in my own, then ask, "Red? Can you tell me what's wrong now?"
"My sister's coming home for the holidays, thanks to my dad," she tells me.
"Shouldn't that be a good thing?" I ask, confused.
"Well, yes and no, concidering my mother disowned her when she came out and said she was a lesbian. Dad still cares about her, and so do I, but it's going to be hell on earth having my sister, mom, and my sister's girlfriend all sitting together in the same room," she explains.
Wow. That's a tough one for sure. I think about this, then say, "I can see where it would be both good and bad, but if anything happens...Call me. I'll be happy to come over and calm things down to the best of my ability."
"No offence, Micro, but I don't think even you could defuse this ticking time bomb. I mean, this is my mother we're talking about, and you know how narrow minded the bitch can be," Red sighs, "I knew it was going to happen sooner or later, I just didn't think it'd be my last Christmas at home."
"Not to intrude or anything, but that's probably why he did it," Ashley says, "I mean, think about it. It's the last chance he might have to have the whole family together on Christmas, and he doesn't want to lose that opportunity. Can't say I blame him for that."
"I understand that, it's just...My mother's going to be oh so pissy. She's already dictating what I'm going to wear," Red says, showing us a picture of an elf costume.
"Ew," I murmur as I look at the pink and purple costume.
"Yeah," Red says, "She's such a control freak, and I can't wait to get rid of her."
"Don't say that, Red," I tell her, "It's like what parent's tell each other. You can't wait to get rid of them, but you're lost without them."
"Oh! I'm so sorry, Micro. I totally forgot," she says hurriedly.
"Don't worry about it, but seriously. Don't wish your parents out of your life, no matter how horrible they are. I wished my dad away may times, and I got my wish, but now I wish I still had him here with me," I tell her.
She nods in understanding, then hugs me and we talk a while longer. After about an hour, Ashley tells us dinner's ready, surprising me that he's made enough for not only himself and me, but Red and Rocket.
I smile at him, then kiss him gently as we head over to the dinning room table. We all talk and hang out while we eat, then I ask them if maybe they'd like to be in a band. Red's all for it, but Rocket doesn't really seem too interested.
He finally says, "Let me think about it for a day or two, then I'll tell you what I think."
"Alright. Sounds good to me," I say, as we continue our meal.
