You Saved Me
Worrying
Ashley's POV: When the alarm clock goes off, I jerk awake, causing Katie to groan sleepily, shift and fall back asleep. I smile at her, then shut the alarm off, and get up. I take a quick shower, then I have to wake her up, so she can get ready too.
"Hey, baby. Come on. Get up," I tell her, shaking her arm gently.
"No," she grumbles, trying to bat me away.
"You have to get up for school, babe," I tell her.
"No. I can't," she says.
"And why not?" I ask.
"Not feeling good. Feel like I did the day I passed out," she says, and suddenly I feel panic raise inside of me. Shit. Her pills. Did she take them last night?
"Baby, focus," I say, forcing her to sit up, and look at me, "Baby, did you take your meds last night?"
She gently shakes her head, to signal she didn't. Fuck me.
I then ask, "Alright. Where are they?"
"Bag," she murmurs, then slumps forward in my arms.
I curse under my breath, then lay her back on the bed, and grab her bag and a bottle of water. I quick get out two pills, then race back to her, and wake her up again. When she looks at me, I pass her the pills and say, "Take these, babe."
She takes them, then passes out again. I sigh, then call up Jayy.
"Hey, man. What's up?" he asked sleepily.
"Katie forgot to take her iron last night, and now she's out like a light," I tell him.
"What?" he asked, sounding wide awake now, "Has she taken them yet today?"
"Yeah. I just gave them to her, but then she passed out," I tell him.
"Alright. I'll call the school, and let them know she'll be late," he tells me, then I thank him, and we hang up.
I go back over to Katie, and sit beside the bed. Tokyo and Killer join me, sitting on my lap and the side of the bed. I sigh, then pet them as I keep an eye on Katie.
About an hour passes before she wakes up again, and then she looks at the time and shoots out of bed. I grab her around the waist, and say, "Relax. The school knows you're late. You have time."
"How? Why didn't you wake me?" she demands, struggling from my arms.
"We forgot your meds last night, and this morning you couldn't even function, let alone go to school," I tell her, "I called and told Jayy, and he called the school to let them know you'd be coming in late."
"Damn it," she cusses under her breath.
"I agree. We can't forget that again, baby," I say, "I was so worried."
"I know," she says, then I let her go, and she takes a shower. About a half an hour passes, and she comes out to the bedroom, where I have breakfast waiting. She smiles at me, then sits on the bed, and we eat our breakfast together.
"Ready, babe?" I ask her, when we finish, and all she does is nod. I can tell she's still really out of it, so I say, "Stay here," then walk out of the room.
I call up Jayy again, and tell him what's going on. He agrees it might not be the best idea to send her to school today, and says, "I'll call the school again, and let them know, then bring over some clothes for her, for tomorrow. Just make sure she stays in bed, and gets plenty of rest. She'll need it."
"Yeah. Not a problem," I tell him, then hang up, and walk back in the room, where Katie's sitting on the bed, lethargically playing with Tokyo and Killer.
"You're not going to school today," I tell her as I walk to the bed, "Jayy's orders. Not mine."
"Aright. Well, could we at least do something?" she asked.
"He wants you to get rest, but we can do whatever you want," I tell her, laying down next to her, and watching her carefully.
She sighs, then I can tell she's thinking on what she wants to do. She smiles shyly up at me, and asked, "Can we watch the Corpse Bride?"
"Sounds like a good idea to me," I say, then get up and say, "I'll get the snacks, and you get the movie. It's in here," I pat my movie chest as I walk out to the kitchen to get our snacks.
I pop some popcorn, gather up our drinks and some candy, then warm up some of those Super Soft Pretzels she loves, with ranch, then walk back to the bedroom with the loaded down tray.
When I get in there, I can't help but laugh, because my pups are licking either side of her face, and she's giggling uncontrollably. I set the tray down on the chest at the foot of my bed, then go up to her, and say in a joking manner, "Looks like I've been replaced."
"No one could replace you, Ashley," she says through her giggles, "But Tokyo and Killer do make a convincing argument."
I laugh, then ask, "Really? And what is that?"
"Unlimited kisses," she says.
"Is that what you want?" I ask her, "Well, in that case..."
I lean over her, and kiss her softly all over her face, then her neck, and back up to her lips, and say, "Because if it's unlimited kisses you want, I think I'm up for the challenge."
She giggles, then wraps her arms around my neck, and pulls me closer. She kisses me, then looks to my two little dogs and says, "Sorry guys. Your daddy convinced me he's the better choice, but don't worry, I still love you guys too."
I smirk at her, then kiss her again, and pull away. I grab the remote, press play, then sit next to her on the bed, and pull her close, while Tokyo situates himself on her lap, and Killer on mine. The movie begins, and we just relax as we watch it, and I listen to Katie sing along with Emily on Tears To Shed.
