You Saved Me

This is So Cool! Wait, Maybe Not...

It’s been a week, and today I get to see what huge surprise Jayy and Dahvie have been planning for my bedroom. Whatever it is, is cool with me, but I don’t like that I can’t see where I’m going. They’ve blindfolded me, and that really doesn’t sit well with me. Like, at all.
It’ll be worth it, I’m sure, but I don’t like the idea of not being able to see, and having to rely on someone else to tell me where I’m going. I hear a door click, and then open, and I’m being gently pushed into the room. I’m lead around a large item, which I assume is my bed, and to another door. It’s my bathroom. Hmm . . . what have they done?
The door opens, and Jayy lifts the blindfold off my eyes. When I open my eyes, I see what they’ve done. My bathrooms done in all Nightmare Before Christmas stuff! My shower curtain is the scene at the end with Jack and Sally on that hill. My bathroom sink has been swapped out for a custom, Nightmare Before Christmas vanity table, that when lifted, reveals a Jack Skeleton sink.
In the corner of the room is a black and white striped vanity stool, and even the toilet seat is Nightmare Before Christmas!
I stare at it, open mouthed, and then Jayy says, “Turn around.”
When I do, I face my bedroom again, and they’ve somehow made my green and black zebra design merge with Nightmare Before Christmas very well.
My carpet is purple, my walls are as I left them, only the black wall, above each of the bedside tables, are large Jack and Sally wall decals. Going along the tall four-post bed are purple and green Christmas lights, and my bed is covered in the comforter set I picked, as well as purple, green, and black pillows, and Nightmare Before Christmas dolls of all the characters. Draped over the bed is a sheer, black canopy, they’ve tied to each post, using green and purple ribbons.
At the foot of my bed, is a Nightmare Before Christmas throw that they’ve folded slightly, and placed there. My curtains for my two large windows are purple with sheer black spider webs on them. I finally look up at my light and it’s the moon from the movie! What the hell?! Where did they get all this stuff?
“Wow . . .” is all I can think to say, before turning to them, hugging them tightly and saying, “Thank you so much!”
Dahvie laughs, and says, “It’s not a big deal, sweetheart, but you’re welcome.”
“Glad you like it,” Jayy says, as he hugs me, and kisses my hair. A moment later though, his smile fades, and he says, “But there is something we need to talk about.”
I stiffen at his words, then slowly back up, and sit on the edge of my pillow-soft bed. Jayy and Dahvie sit on either side of me, and Jayy says, “What happened between you and Ashley?”
When I say nothing, Dahvie says, “Come on, Katie. You can tell us. We need to know. Did he hurt you? What happened?”
I look down at the purple carpet, then say, “He didn’t hurt me. I hurt him.”
“How?” Jayy asked.
I sigh, lean forward, running my hands through my hair, and say, “I shouldn’t have come here. I told him about how bad things happen to people I get too close to, proof being what happened to Dahvie, and that I didn’t want to see him get hurt, so I thought it would be best if we didn’t see each other after that date.”
I feel Dahvie’s familiar touch on my upper back, and he says, “You can’t think like that. It was my fault I fell, kiddo. I was being reckless, and fell down the stairs. It wasn’t your fault at all.”
“Trust him. I’ve never met someone who is as clumsy as he is when it comes to stairs,” Jayy tells me.
“But have you ever been injured like this by it?” I demand.
“Maybe not to the point of cutting my head open, but I have broken a few bones, gave myself a few concussions, and dislocated my shoulder,” Dahvie tells me.
I sigh, and think maybe it was just a freak accident then. He’s had much worse than a cut on his head if all that’s happened.
I’m pulled from my thoughts though, when Jayy says, “Go get ready. Towels are in the cabinet behind the door. You’re outfits on the back of the bathroom door, your straight iron and hair dryer are in the caddie on the wall by the sink, and all your makeup and jewelry are in two of the plastic drawer things under the sink/vanity table.”
I nod, then get up, thank them again, and head inside the bathroom. I take a long shower, relaxing under the warm stream of water, then get out, and pull out a black and purple striped towel. I dry off, then wrap it around my hair, sort of like a turban. I then check out the outfit they left on my door.
I smile at it, then slip it on, and dry my hair with my purple hair dryer, while my lime green straight iron heats up. When I look under the vanity table, there’s four plastic black, green, and purple bins, and I open each to find my jewelry in one, hair accessories in another, makeup in the third one, and finally all my body jewelry in the last one. On two purple and green shelves they’ve drilled into the doors of the sink cabinet are rows and rows of all sorts of nail polishes, and design kits. I smile at them, and pick out the stuff I need.
When I stand back up, I look at the shelves above the toilet, and see they’re lined with tons of hair coloring. I have my own personal solon in my bathroom! Holy hell! The colors range from white, green, blue, pink, red, purple, black, and every other color under the sun. I look at them a little more closely, and see the brands are Manic Panic, Beyond the Zone, Ion, and Splat that line the racks. Wow. All the ones I use.
How do they know so much about me? It’s not like I ever told them what brands I use for my hair coloring. Or that I like Nightmare Before Christmas. Or that I like the color purple. Then something hits me, and I silently hope to myself, that they didn’t go through my journal, which holds all my secrets, likes, and dislikes. If they did, oh well, I can’t change that now. They just know more about me than I ever intended them to.
After I finish getting ready, I head out to my bedroom, and look in the closet for a hoodie. When I find a red and black Nightmare Before Christmas one, I smile, and toss it on, over my t-shirt, then head downstairs. Dahvie’s the first to see me, and smiles.
“So, how do you like your new space?” he asked.
“Love it. Thanks again,” I say, walking over, and sitting next to him.
He places an arm around my shoulders and says, “You’re very welcome.”
“I was wondering how you guys knew so much about me. You seem to have gotten everything right, even down to the brands of hair coloring I use,” I tell them.
“It really wasn’t that hard. We watched you at Hot Topic a few times. You would always look at the hair colors, and I figured the ones you looked a little more carefully at were the ones you liked or wanted to try,” Dahvie tells me.
“And I saw you silently fangirling over the Nightmare Before Christmas stuff at the other stores. Especially the purple stuff,” Jayy says, as further explanation.
Oh, so that’s where they got it from. Good. My secrets are still mine to keep, I think, and then the doorbell rings.
“I’ll-”
“I’ll get it. You stay here with Dahvie,” Jayy says, getting up.
I groan and say, “Fine,” as I sit back down.
Jayy walks out of the room, and I hear the front door open. He talks quietly to whoever it is, and then a moment later, comes back in the living room. He sits on my other side, and says, “Katie, you’re not going to like this, but it has to be done.”
“What has to be done?” I ask, worry clear in my voice.
“You can come in now,” he says towards the living rooms entrance, and in walks Ashley Purdy.
“Oh, no. Oh, hell no!” I say, as I get up, but get pulled back down by Dahvie and Jayy. I fight them off, then race to my bedroom, and lock the door. What the hell were they thinking?! Ugh! I hate them! I really fucking do, right now!
