Part Twenty.
"No phones in the hospital"
"I'm sorry, I just nee-" Jake starts
"No Phones!!" The nurse snaps raising her voice as she passes
"Bloody bitch" Jake mutters. Brushing his fringe out of his face, his low ponytail twisted over his shoulder in such a tangle that makes you want to comb it down his back again.
"It's okay, there's better signal outside anyway" you tug on his sleeve, "C'mon"
He takes your hand and you walk through the hospital hallways, getting lost in the maze of wards and waiting rooms. You come across a lift, he leads you in and press the button that leads to the ground floor. You yawn, it's hardly even 7am yet. The sudden jolt of the lift makes your stomach flip, Jake squeezes your hand.
"Y'okay?" He screws up his eyebrows a little in concern.
"Mhm, fine." You swallow a few times
"You sure?" The lift doors open, you step out, he pulls you to him for a second.
"Yeah. Yeah I'm good now." You steady yourself, leaning on him. "Just need some air"
"Let's get outside then. You dizzy?"
"Lil bit but I ca-" you're stopped mid sentence in slight shock as he scoops you up in his arms and continues walking. "Jake!" You shriek, "I can walk I'm fine"
"Ssh" he grins. "Trust me."
You wrap your arms around his neck, giggling slightly, blinking off the dizzy feeling. He carries you out of the hospital and strides across the car park towards Jinxx's car. He unlocks the passenger door, swinging it open with his foot whilst balancing you in his arms. He makes sliding you into the passenger seat look easy, pulling the seatbelt around your waist and swinging the door closed.
"Where are we going?" You wriggle in the seat so you can face him
"Nowhere exciting, just thought you might wanna leave the hospital for a few hours. Breakfast sound good?"
You didn't realise how hungry you are, you smile "You're a mindreader! Yes please!"
He grins, the corners of his eyes crinkling with smile lines. His long guitarists fingers gripping the steering wheel as he pulls out of hospital grounds.
You turn on the radio, some boppy hiphop music starts playing. You both take the piss out of it, wailing and fake beat boxing.
"Jee's secret passion?" You raise a eyebrow. Jakes laugh is reassuring, it's been a while since any of us laughed. You sink into the squishy leather car seat, realising you haven't relaxed properly in almost a week. He looks at you with a contented look in his eyes
"What?" you sigh, lips somehow curving into a smirk as if they have a life of their own.
"Just glad you're okay Bree."
We sit down for breakfast in a early open diner across town, you order some pancakes and fruit, being in that sorta mood, Jake gets a muffin and bacon. You close your menus and give them to the waitress, a peppy girl with a bun on top of her head and too much blusher on. For a moment, you and Jake just grin at each other. It feels good to be out of the hospital, with all the sickness and sorrow trapped in its walls. It's nice just to relax for a little while. You rub your tired eyes, flicking your mad auburn hair off your face. Jake smiles, still looking at you with that look in his eye.
"You're creeping me out."
He opens his mouth and properly laughs, showing a set of perfectly white teeth.
"I was just thinking about how beautiful you are"
"Jake don't-"
"Bree. I'm not being like that. It's just I feel you've been cast aside a little bit with all the stuff going on. You must be traumatised. I just want you to know I care okay? Even.. Even if you don't love me like that. I'm always here for you Bree. Always."
