We Caught Fire

Done For You

Dess looked in front of her, breathing heavily as she stared at the wood of the door and felt her heart racing. She raised her hand to knock, but let it fall back down to her side as she moved to lean her forehead against the cool wood. What was she doing? She squeezed her eyes shut to keep away the tears but then opened them as she thought of Moira. What would her sister think of all this? Moira had been their biggest supporter in the end and Dess knew that she was looking down on them and shaking her head. Inhaling deeply, Dess raised her hand and knocked softly at first and then knocked again a little more loudly.

“It’s open!” Came a muffled voice from behind the door and Dess smiled softly as she reached down and placed her hand on the knob. She turned it slowly, pushing the door in and then gasped at the sight before her.

The room was full of candles, the soft glow making everything shimmer as she scanned her eyes around the room. There were vases of flowers everywhere, covering every surface and Dess felt her mind spin as she tried to take it every single one and their meanings. Alyssum-worth beyond beauty. Angelica-Inspiration. Azalea-Fragile and ephemeral passion. Baby’s Breath-Everlasting love. White Carnation-Sweet and lovely. White Clover-Think of me. Daffodil-New beginnings. Hawthorn-Hope. Hibiscus-Delicate beauty. Purple Hyacinth-Please forgive me. Jonquil-Desire. Orchid-Refined beauty. Periwinkle-Tender recollections. Phlox-Our souls are united. Purple Roses-Enchantment. Red Roses-Love. Tulips-Declaration of love. Wallflower-Fidelity in adversity. And finally Dess noticed a single Zinnia, which she knew the meaning-I mourn your absence- and the tears came to her eyes.

Andy sat in the middle of the floor, his legs crossed as he held an acoustic guitar in his hands and smiled softly up at her. The shadows from the candles danced across his beautiful features and Dess felt her heart swell as she looked down at him. He was perfect, in every way and she knew that their being apart had been a mistake. He said nothing to her as they looked at one another and instead beckoned to her silently to come sit next to him. She took a deep breath and walked forward, sitting down on the floor across from him as he continued to smile at her. She watched, her legs crossed and her hands folded in her lap, as Andy began to strum the guitar softly and then his voice broke the silence.

The best things in life
Come with a price
The star that burned so bright faded the fastest

Dess felt the tears prick her eyes as she listened to him as Andy began to sing. At the first line Dess felt her tears spill over and she knew that he was talking about Moira. She moved to wipe her tears, but stopped short as Andy continued to sing to her, his eyes scanning over her face nervously.

You'll always feel it's right
Even when we end the fight
Welcome home, home tonight

She listened to him singing, his voice soft-softer and filled with more love than Dess had ever heard from him before. She watched, the candle light dancing across the room as her light green eyes met his and she felt her heart lighten.

Singing ohhh, ohhh
Welcome home tonight
Ohhh ohh, tonight

Dess scanned the room, her eyes taking in all of the flowers and their meanings once more and she smiled. No one in her life had ever been able to speak to her through flowers before and yet Andy had always been able to tell her exactly how he was feeling through one simple gesture. Dess looked back to Andy and saw that his eyes were scanning her face softly, his blue eyes shining in the light with tears as he sang.

Words they don't know how to make amends
And all they do is push you to the edge
But it's not wasted

She smiled, her tears spilling down her cheeks softly as Dess looked down at Andy’s fingers as they strummed the strings of the guitar gently. Those hands, she had missed them, had missed the way they sought her out in the middle of the night. She missed feeling his fingers as they gently ran over her face, her lips, her hair. Dess felt her heart beat faster as she finally let her anger, all of it, for him go and she smiled softly as he finished the song.

It's all done for you
(Oh ohhh)
It's all done for you
(Oh ohhh)
It's all done for you
(Oh ohhh)
It's all done for you
Oh ohh

Oh ohh

Odessa watched as Andy strummed the last chord, his eyes tearful and sad as he looked over at her. Her mouth was agape slightly and Dess saw Andy place the guitar down and then he reached for her. She fell into his arms, her head resting against his shoulder as she sobbed softly. He rubbed the back of her head, his fingers tangling themselves in her soft hair and he inhaled her scent, vanilla and citrus and he smiled. She held onto him tightly, the sobs overtaking her as Dess felt herself let go. She hiccupped softly and smiled as she felt Andy chuckle beneath her and she silently looked up at him.

“Hi.” His eyes gazed into hers as he spoke and Andy reached down and kissed her forehead, leaving his lips there for a moment before pulling back slightly.

“Hi.” Dess reached up, trying to wipe her tears away but Andy reached out and stopped her. Slowly he bent down and first kissed her left cheek and then her right, ridding her of her tears as she sighed softly.

“I’ve missed you…” His voice was low and Dess looked into his eyes and seeing the sincerity behind them she nodded.

“I know…I-I missed you too.” She reached out, her fingers running through his growing hair as she stared into his eyes deeply. Those blue pools, the ones that haunted her dreams, were making her feel weak and Dess tried to look away but he stopped her with a finger to her chin.

“Look at me Dess. It’s going to be okay…we’ll be okay.” He spoke softly and Dess felt all of the hurt and sadness come spilling out. She had felt so alone, even when they had been together it felt like she had lost everything and she felt hopeless.

“I don’t know…I just feel like I can’t function anymore. I feel so helpless an-and scared!” She sobbed, her head coming to rest against his shoulder once more and Andy held her, his strong arms wrapped tightly around her shaking frame.

“You aren’t helpless and don’t be scared…I have you. I will always have you Odessa.” His lips grazed over the top of her head and Andy felt like his heart was ripping.

“I-I’m so-sorry fo-for-ev-everything.” She sobbed, her body shaking with her tears as she tried to get her words out. Andy softly placed a hand on either side of her face and moved her head so that she had to look him in the eyes.

“Forgiven and forgotten. I can’t live without you Dess and I will do everything I can to save you from this pain.” His voice was strong, confident. Dess sniffled softly and he smiled as he reached down and kissed her nose gently.

“I feel like I’ve lost everything…even you.” She said softly, her eyes searching his urgently and Andy just shook his head. He grabbed her hand, bringing it to lay on his chest, her fingers feeling his heart pounding beneath her touch.

“Do you feel that? That heartbeat right there-that is for you and only you Odessa. I love you. With everything I am, I love you so much I ache when I can’t be near you. These past few weeks have been torture for me-knowing that you were so close but I couldn’t come to you…” His voice was tearful and as Dess looked up at him she felt her heart break.

“I’m sorry for pushing you away…I never meant to hurt you like that.” She said softly and he just smiled, his tears falling down his cheeks as Andy sucked in a deep breath and brought his lips down to hers. Their kiss was soft, loving and sorrowful as Dess felt her body relax against him.

The candle light was soft as they sat there like that, their hands clasped except when Andy would move to run his fingers over her face. He touched her lips, her cheeks, and her eyes all to try and reacquaint himself with her. He had missed Dess, much more than he thought he would and he felt terrible that she felt like she couldn’t be around him. After awhile Andy moved to lay down, placing one arm behind his head and Dess followed. Her head came to rest right above his heart, her arms lying over his stomach and she had draped one leg over his softly.

Dess felt at peace as she laid there, Andy’s fingers running over her skin which sent shivers down her spine. She was so scared to come here tonight, not knowing what was going to come from this meeting, but she was glad that she did. She stared off into the room, her eyes coming to rest on the single Zinnia that sat on one of the side tables and she thought of Moira. Her little sister was probably ashamed at the way she had been acting and Dess felt her heart sink. She had pushed away the only person she had left in life and slowly Dess sat up and looked down.

“Am I selfish?” She asked, her voice low and Andy sat up slowly, his hands reaching out for hers as he looked her in the eyes.

“No. You have lost so much Dess. Everyone deals with grief in different ways. I’ve been dealing with it through music, but you-you needed to find your own way.” His voice was soft and laced with understanding and Dess felt a bit better at his words.

“I love you Andy…” Her green eyes were soft in the candle light and Andy smiled brightly and moved his hands so that they rested on her cheeks.

“I love you too. Want to watch a movie?” His eyes were happy once again and Dess only nodded and smirked at his childlike glee at having her back.

The two of them parted, reluctantly, as Dess moved towards the door to go get her bags from Sammi’s room. As she opened the door, Dess was surprised to see her things sitting there and she just shook her head as she picked them up and brought them into the room. Of course Sammi knew that this was going on, for all Dess knew she was in on it the entire time and silently she thanked her best girlfriend for pushing her back towards Andy. Dess changed quickly, pulling a loose tank top over her head as she looked around the room and smiled. She walked around, softly blowing out each candle and didn’t even notice that Andy was watching her from the bathroom doorway.

He came to her silently, the last lit candle glowing softly as he approached and Andy picked it up and held it out to her. His blue eyes were dark in the light of that single candle and as Dess looked into those eyes she got lost. She was taken back to the first day she had ever gazed into those blue orbs and she remembered how she felt-like she could be anyone or anything she wanted to be. Smiling up at him, Dess bent down slightly and sucked in a breath before she blew out softly. The flame flickered and went out and they both were bathed in the moonlight that shone through the curtains.

They said nothing as Dess sat the candle down and moved to get underneath the covers. It was strange at first having Andy next to her-she had gotten so used to sleeping next to Sammi that Dess had almost forgotten what it was like to sleep with someone who wanted to snuggle into her. Andy reached out as he laid down, his fingers grasping at her and Dess smiled as she reached out her own and guided him in the darkness. The weight on the bed shifted as he got underneath the covers and soon Dess was cuddling into his side, her head resting in the crook of his neck as Andy reached for the television remote.

“What shall we watch?” He asked her, his voice low in her ear as she looked up and placed a soft kiss right below his ear.

“Doesn’t matter…” She murmured happily and Andy smiled as he channel surfed. There were only a handful of channels in English and finally he settled on a channel that was playing old I Love Lucy reruns.

They laid there, watching silently and Andy felt at peace. He had been so lonely the past few weeks and although Dess had been around it was times like these that he missed the most. He missed cuddling with her at night and he missed seeing her in the morning, her hair all over the place and her eyes sleepy as she stumbled around to make coffee. He felt Dess laughing softly next to him and Andy turned his attention away from the television and cleared his throat.

“So the Kerrang Awards are in a few days. I’m really sorry that you and Sammi can’t come with us.” Dess looked up at him, their eyes connecting as she smiled softly.

“I know and it’s okay. Sammi and I had planned to have a little party and watch you guys so it will kind of seem like we’re there.” He smirked down at her and thought over their schedule for the next month. After the Kerrang Awards they had the Download Festival, then The Avengers premier and after that they played a few more shows and it was back to LA to record. It all seemed so daunting but Andy knew with Dess by his side it would all be okay.

“You’re still going to be my date for the premier right?” He asked and she smirked up at him and nodded. Andy knew that Dess had been looking forward to this premier all year and he was happy that this was something that they could finally do together.

“I have the perfect outfit picked out…” She said, a yawn breaking off her train of thought as Andy smirked down at her.

They laid there for a bit, watching the television halfheartedly but mostly they talked. Dess told Andy about all of her sightseeing and he felt sad that he hadn’t been true to his word of showing her around Europe but he felt happy none the less. Andy made her laugh as he talked about all of the fan encounters they’d had after shows and his gut twisted as they got on the subject of their huge blow out. He explained to her then what had happened and Dess listened silently as he made his case. She knew in her gut that he hadn’t been unfaithful and she knew that it was just her anger that was telling her the opposite. After a few hours Andy shut off the television and searched her face with his mouth until their lips connected in the darkness.

“I love you Dess.” His voice was deep in the darkness and she smiled as she reached out and ran her fingers over his lips.

“I love you too Andy.” Dess said softly, her fingers running over his lip ring and he smiled into her touch.

Dess moved her hand slowly down the side of his face and neck and she smiled as she felt him shiver. His large hand found hers and entwined their fingers as their hands came to rest on his chest and Dess could feel his heartbeat against her skin. She smiled softly against his neck, kissing him lightly before she shut her eyes. They fell asleep like this, neither moving the entire night as they felt finally at peace and had no need for restlessness any more.

Finally they were both where they belonged.
