Rebel Love Song
Lindsey sighed as she finished cleaning the kitchen. She was officially out of things to do and she had only been home for a few hours. What was she supposed to do for the rest of the time her parents were away. She couldn't call a friend and ask if they wanted to hang out -- she didn't have any.
She was the school outcast, no one seemed to share her taste in music, and no one dressed like her, that was for dam sure. No, she lived in a small town, a town where there was a church on every other street and where no one locked their doors unless she was near. Basically she lived in Pleasantville. (one of my favorite movies)
Hearing a bunch of noise outside, she walked over to the window and saw that the people across the street had family visiting from out of the state. She found herself entranced by the teen who stepped out of one of the cars. He looked like her!
Well, looked like the kind of person she would get along with anyway. He was dressed in black and had long shaggy black hair.
A few minutes later, Lindsey was sitting under the tree in the front yard on the bench reading when the sounds of angry yelling reached her ears. Looking up she saw the young man from earlier storm out of the house and make his way across the street. He looked over to her and approached, his tense shoulders showing he was still a little angry.
"I need to get out of here for a while, wanna join me?" he asked her, his voice deceptively deep for how scrawny he looked.
"Oh, um sure. Just let me lock up," she replied putting her book into her bag and making sure she had the key to the front door before she locked it and rejoined the young man in the yard.
"I'm Andy by the way," he said as they climbed into one of the cars.
"Lindsey," she replied.
"Well Lindsey, where would you suggest we go?"
"The mall in the city to be honest. It's the nearest place where one doesn't have to deal with a lot of negativity because of how they look."
At the mall Andy and Lindsey walked around, mostly just talking about what they liked and didn't like. What they went through at school for their looks, what they went through with family for the same reason.
Lindsey found out that Andy was starting a band and Andy would be the enigmatic singer/front-man. Andy found out that Lindsey dreamed of being a famous writer. The pair had been at the mall for hours by the time they finally decided to head back. Andy sending a text to his family that he would be crashing at the house across the street before following Lindsey in.
The pair changed into sleepwear and curled up together on the couch, watching movies on Netflix until the early hours of the morning when they finally fell asleep. Hours later when Lindsey woke, Andy was stretched out behind her, his arm draped over her waist. He was holding her close and had a soft smile on his lips as he slept.
They spent a lot of time together, developing a close friendship as time went on. Eventually Andy's family had to go back home but the two kept in touch over the years. When Andy's dreams of creating a band were realized he made sure Lindsey had a ticket to every show she could make it to. And when Lindsey became a creative writing professor Andy made a pint to pop in on her classes whenever he could and would talk about the similarities between writing a good story and writing a good song.
Needless to say, no one was surprised when the two wed.
