Once Upon A Tragedy
She Will Be Fine
Quick note! Most of this chapter will be in the point of view of Andy, because I had to.
Kaelyn:
It has been four days since Andy asked me to be his girlfriend and the mother of Laila. Since then Andy has put a lot more work into learning how to take care of Laila. Even the guys can make a bottle and give it to her now! They still drop her on me for diaper changes and when she starts screaming her lungs out. It seems like she has gotten a lot fussier, making me a lot more sleep deprived. Don’t get me wrong; ever since I became Andy’s girlfriend, it’s been really nice. We get alone time every once in a while, and we have definitely gotten a lot closer. But it is always interrupted by Laila.
I had just put Laila to bed. Knowing that I needed to go to bed, I walked back to the living room to announce just that. I went to my bunk and fell asleep almost instantly.
Andy:
We had all gone to bed, but I just couldn’t sleep for some reason. My mind was just going. It was probably a few hours later, when I heard Laila start to cry. Being used to Kaelyn getting up to silence her, I didn’t even budge.
After a minute I knew something was wrong, Kaelyn would have had her back to sleep by now. Then I realized that Kaelyn hasn’t gotten any sleep for a long time, and with shows every night for the past four days, she must be exhausted.
With a sigh I got up as I heard groans from the guys, because of the crying. I walked back to Laila and picked her up with a look of desperation, knowing that I haven’t been able to quiet her yet.
I started with Kaelyn’s routine to get the crying to stop. After a minute, I knew that it wasn’t going to work. I sighed again, keeping up the routine as I contemplated on what I could do. Getting an idea I sat down and started rocking my little baby.
“The best things in life, come with a price, the star that burned so bright, faded the fastest,” I sang the haunting song deeply, trying to make it less haunting. She started to quiet down as I continued singing. Seeing that she was getting sleepy, I smiled, glad that I had finally found what worked for me. Finishing the song as I put her back into her bassinet, I started walking to my bunk.
As I got in, I turned to my left side and looked at Kaelyn’s curtain. Knowing that I was only feet away from the woman that I am pretty sure I’m in love with, I closed my curtain and fell asleep.
I had to get up a few more times throughout the night, singing songs like Carolyn and The Mortician’s Daughter.
The next morning we were all in the living room, Kaelyn still hadn’t gotten up. We didn’t think anything of it though. Jake had Laila, feeding her.
After another hour of Kaelyn not getting up, I decided to check on her. She had been asleep for over twelve hours now!
As I approached her bunk and knelt down, I couldn’t help but feel like something was wrong. With a shaky breath I opened the curtain.
Kaelyn’s face was really red and sweaty. She was shaking, as if she was freezing. I put the back of my hand on her forehead. She was burning up!
I walked back to the living room to inform the guys that she was sick.
“Maybe she should go to the other bus, so she doesn’t get Laila sick,” Jinxx suggested.
“Yeah, and their back room is a bedroom, so she would have a bigger bed,” Ashley added.
“Ok, I will get some of her stuff together,” I said as I started walking back to Kaelyn. “Can one of you go over there to tell them what’s going on?” I asked before I disappeared into the bunkroom.
I quickly got some of her most comfortable clothes together in a little duffle bag, leaving out her favorite yoga shorts, knowing I would have to put them on her, since I knew she slept in a tank top and underwear. I was about to turn around when I heard a sound come from her.
“Andy?” I heard her whisper.
Turning around to see her weakly looking at me, I hurried back over to her.
“Hey, I’m going to move you to the other bus, so you can have a big bed, K? Only till you get better,” I said as I brushed some hair out of her face, giving her a soft smile.
“Ok,” she said back as she closed her eyes.
“I’m going to have to put your yoga shorts on you,” I said as I got her to sit up.
I put them on her as she leaned against my shoulder. It made me feel so bad since we hadn’t been helping her with Laila. I couldn’t help but think that it was our fault she is sick right now.
I picked her up and walked out, telling someone to grab the duffle. I walked to the other bus, with the guys in my wake. CC sped up to open the door for me. Seeing that the guys of OUT had gotten the back ready for her, I set her down. I walked over to the door and closed it, so I could take the yoga shorts off of her, so she wouldn’t burn up even more. I pulled a sheet over her and walked back out. I noticed that Ashley had stayed back to watch Laila.
“Don’t worry, dude. She usually recovers from being sick really fast. If it is just sleep deprivation then she should be back to normal in two days max,” Kory said trying to cheer me up.
“I know, it’s just, I feel so bad about it, we should have tried harder to take care of Laila,” I said as I sat down and put my head in my hands.
“She will be fine, why don’t you guys get back to your bus?” Skylar said as he handed Laila to CC.
I got up and started walking back to the bus. I took Laila and sat in her room.
“I hope your mommy gets better soon,” I whispered to her, as I leaned down to kiss her forehead.
