I didn't go back to Jake's house. No, no, I wouldn't. I went over to a different house. Sammi's house.
"Sammi," I knock on the door. No answer. I can see the television. I knock again. "Sammi? I know you're in there. It's Ivy," I yell. A loud crash happens somewhere deep in the house. "SAMMI!" I scream. I push my shoulder against the door. "SAMMI!" I smash the door in the house.
"YOU RIGHTEOUS WHORE. I OWN YOU," I can hear in the basement. I run to the door, and throw it open.
"SAMMI!" I scream again.
"Who the hell is that," somebody growls. I see somebody on the stairs. I feel the heat rush over my face, my hair flowing back into feathers.
"Don't come closer," I growl back. A gun cocks. "Put it down," I growl again. I can hear Sammi crying. He holds it up. "Do you see me? I'm not even human," I snarl.
"Don't test me bitch,"
"Oh, I'll test you," I rear back, my stomach roiling. I spark the air. And then I hurl fire from my mouth, charring him. He jumps out of the way. "I'll fucking test you," I yell. "COME FIGHT ME YOU COWARD," he's in a corner. I throw another fire at him.
Sammi cries out. He goes near her.
"Get me now,"
"My aim is more precise than you think, you stupid fucker," I snarl. My hands spark, and a single jet of light shoots from my palm, heating and frying the gun. He drops it, screaming. I blast him, right in his chest cavity. "EAT LIGHTNING YOU CUNT," I yell and scream. I get Sammi, and jump up, spreading my wings and flying out of the basement, back home.
Okay, so I did end up at Jake's.
Problem?
I live here too. And, despite everything, I guess I really love him.
"IVY!" he yells.
"Get Sammi some water, she's dehydrated, we'll be in my room," I don't bother landing on the ground, I just carry the girl to my room. Jake rushes in with three water bottles. "Give her water. I've got to get a first aid kit," I run out as Jake is sitting Sammi up, and forcing her to drink. I get into the bathroom, and pull a kit, full of everything. I run out and take Sammi's arm with a burn on it. I apply the burn cream and gauze, and tape it all down.
"Sammi? Is there anything you'd like?"
"Jeremy..." she sighs...
They divorced months ago. They hate each other.
Think love could call in one last favor?
Jake looks at me and purses his lips.
"I'll call him," I say softly. I pull out my phone and dial Jinxx's number. "Jinxx?"
"Hey Ives, have you and Jake worked it out,"
"Don't talk about it. I need to call in a really big favor though,"
"What?"
"Don't hang up on me,"
"I won't,"
"Well... I found Sammi in her basement, being beaten by somebody. I killed him. But, she's calling for you. Think you can call on her place in your heart?" he sighs heavily. Very heavily.
"Ives... I don't... I.... I'll try," he says. "Where are you?"
"Jake's house,"
"I'll be there soon. But we aren't going to come out of this as a couple. We are divorced. This is the last time," he says.
"Thank you, Jinxx,"
"Now, you've got to do something for me," he replies.
"What," I say blankly.
"I'll tell you later," I sigh. I hate when he gets like this.
"I'll see you soon then,"
"Oh, no. I'm here. I was in the area,"
"Oh okay," and I run through the house and open the door. "She's in my room," I say. He walks back slowly, cautiously. I realize the house has been disturbed by my flying. It looks... well, not good. Jinxx disappears into my room. Jake comes out. He sits down on the couch and sighs.
"God, Ives, how'd we ever get this way...?" he says slowly. I laugh darkly.
"Life just never makes sense, does it now? I mean you and I... it doesn't matter. How did we get this way, Jacob Pitts?"
"Are you leaving then," he asks slowly.
"Well, we've reached an impasse,"
"How?" he asks. I hum a bar from a song I know. "What song is that, Ives? I've never heard it,"
"Oh my God, this is insane, how'd it get like this or has it always been this way?" I sing. He laughs. I sing another line from another song. "How do we take back what's been done, what's been said? Oh my. How do we take back? Cause when love breaks down, we both die," I sing.
"Ivy,"
"What, Jake?"
"We've got to fix this,"
"Jake, no,"
"Yes, Ivy. We have to,"
"Why, Jake? I've ruined your life. This was just you saving a stupid suicidal dragon. I should not even exist and we both know this. And, now? Now you're not human too. I turned you into this. "NO," I roar. I feel myself bristling. His skin darkens. I know what's coming. I walk out the door.

I had no clue I'd ever walk back in.
