Really? Absolutely not. You don't have to do anything to be alternative. If you listen to metal, post hardcore, pop punk, metalcore, and stuff like that, and maybe change your style up a bit to look more alternative (by choice of course, not because you want to be considered alternative because of your look, or because I said so) then yes, you can be alternative without smoking anything or doing drugs. I've adapted the alternative look because I like it. I like plugs, tattoos, bandannas, winged eyeliner, skinny jeans, band t-shirts and of course post hardcore music. I don't drink, smoke, have sex, or do any kind of drugs. I'm not against drinking and sex when I'm of age, but I think smoking is just gross in general. Of course, I'm inspired by pictures of girls or guys smoking because I like the way the smoke looks. But most of the time, it's not real. It was just for a picture. It looks cool in pictures, but when you're around someone who smokes, it's really very disgusting. Warped Tour was awful because of the amount of people smoking. My friend is straight edge, (I don't consider myself straight edge) but my friend is straight edge and she's just as alternative as I am.

Definitely not. I'm one of the few kids in my school who really listens to anything metal, punk, or alternative or screamo. Yes, I wear skinny jeans and band merch, but I have never smoked once, or drank. I don't have gaged ears or tattoos. Yes, I do want a tattoo, and more piercings but I don't plan on any face piercings or anything like that. I want more single studs on my ears. I am a virgin too. I don't mess around either. I will admit I've self harmed a few times, but that was four years ago in a very very dark time in my life. Just because you choose to love a type of music doesn't mean you have to do anything that you against to like them.
I think smoking is disgusting and I'm such an awkward person and shy about sexual stuff in real life that I wouldn't. I mean I write it in my stories but I hope to one day you know have a wonderful sex life, but with my husband and no one else. That's just how I roll.
