Los Monstruos

Goodbye May Be Sooner Than Expected

Jake’s POV

I finally made it back to the hotel after we got done with our little adventure at the Aquarium. I collapsed onto my bed clutching the rainbow fish pillow that Isis got me from the gift shop. She said it’ll help add color to my room. There was a sudden knock at my door that made me jump a little, “it’s open,” I said turning over, holding the fish pillow.
“It’s us,” said CC as he entered the room with Ashley behind him.
“What’s up?” I said stretching a little bit.
“Well,” began Ashley, “we’ve got good news,”
“Oh? And what might that be?” I asked.
“The bus is fixed and we’ll be leaving the day after tomorrow,” continued, Ashley; my heart stopped.
“The day after tomorrow,” I slammed my hand to my forehead and dragged it down my face, “son of a bitch, man.”
Right now, what I wanted more than anything was to just sleep.

Isis’s POV

I woke up on the couch and it was eleven p.m. and raining hard outside. It took me a while to remember what had happened; I came home after going to the aquarium with Jake and the others, I made myself a salad and then I got really tired so I took a nap on the couch. That was seven hours ago.
I sat up and looked around in the dark, the only source of light coming from the light that hung above the oven. Lightening flashed and the room was lit for only a brief second. I walked over to the large window and gazed out at the city lights covered in a blurred mirage of rain. I turned away rubbing my eyes and suddenly heard a knock at the door.
“Isis?” a voice called. I ran to the door and looked through the peep-hole and saw it was Jake. I unlatched the lock on the door and opened it. “Jake, what’s up? Is something wrong?” I asked concerned,
“No, no! Not at all, I just wanted to see you…” he said rubbing the back of his neck. I ducked my head and blushed a little, “oh,” I said smiling.
“Were you asleep?” he asked.
“No, I just woke up, I fell asleep on the couch when I got home and I’ve been there ever since,” I replied hoping that my words made sense considering how un-alert I was. I could see he was drenched from the rain, “please come in, you must be freezing,” I said pulling him in and closing the door.
“It’s a warm rain, so it wasn’t so bad,” he took off his jacket and I took it, hanging it up on the coat rack while he took off his shoes, “did you walk all the way here?” I asked.
“No, I took the space shuttle,” he replied in a playful sarcastic way.
“Was the hotel getting boring?” I smiled softly.
“A little, the guys went out to a bar and I felt like staying behind but then I got lonely so I thought I’d come bug you for a bit,”
“Well, there’s not much to do here except listen to music, channel flip, eat and talk, I’m a pretty boring person,” I blushed.
“Well, we can figure out something,” he said hopefully, “let’s start by turning on some lights first, it’s kind of dark in here, even for me.”
“Oh right,” I said going over to the light switch and turning on some lights.
“Your apartment is really nice, I don’t know if I told you,” he said sitting on the couch.
“Thanks, my friend helped me set it up like this; she has a very dark outlook on things so the couple of months her and I fixed this place up, was sort of like therapy to her,”
“Where is she now?” Jake asked, curiously.
“She moved back to her hometown in Michigan,” I said while grabbing a picture of her and I that sat on the coffee table; grazing my fingertips across the glass of it, “we still talk; I haven’t seen her since though.”
I saw him peer over and looked at the photo, “she seems like a sweet girl,” he remarked.
I busted out a laugh, “sweet isn’t the word to describe her,” I replied, “I mean she’s nice and all but she has some issues but I’ve learned to get past them and we’ve been the best of friend; she was my partner in crime.”
I set the picture frame back on the coffee table and looked over at Jake, “so, what should we do?”
“Well,” he said looking down, “I guess I should tell you first that…the bus is fixed,” my smile slowly faded a little, “oh,” I replied.
“Yeah, the guys said we’d be able to leave the day after tomorrow.”
The day after tomorrow…
“Well, I mean the tour has to go on and who knows, maybe after tour is done we can meet up again for a day or two,” I said trying to sound hopeful but not too clingy.
“Yeah,” he smiled, “I would definitely come back.”
The way he smiled at me was enough to send me into cardiac arrest, “you would?” I smiled back.
“Yeah, these past two days have been the most fun I’ve had in years, considering the most fun I’ve had was when I was drunk,” I giggled a little at his comment.
“But,” he continued, “this is the most fun I’ve had sober,”
“I’m glad I can actually amuse someone,” I blushed.
“Isis,” he said softly.
“Yeah?”
There was silence for a brief moment, as he brushed my hair out of his face, “have I told you that you’re really beautiful?”
I just sat there, silently, as he smiled, “you’re really adorable when you get all quiet when you’re nervous.”
“I’m not usually nervous,” I replied, “just around really…awesome people.”
He smiled and continued to brush my hair out of my face, “why do you keep your hair in your face like this?” he asked.
“I don’t know…” I blushed, “it just works, I guess.”
“What do you have to hide?” he asked.
“What do you mean?”
“When girls have their hair in the face all the time, it’s usually because they have something to hide,” he said.
I sat there silently and just looked at him as he looked at me while playing with my hair, my heart was beating irregularly.
“Isis,” he said softly.
“Yeah?” I replied softly.
“Talk to me,” he said wrapping me in a hug, “what’s on your mind?”
“Nothing,” I whispered as I wrapped my arms around him.
“Now, you and I both know that’s bullshit,” he said pulling me back, brushing my bangs out of my face.
A smile began to creep on my face as I looked at him, he smiled back at me.
“I like you, Isis,” he said,
“I like you too, Jake,” I said fighting off a tear in the corner of my eye; he pulled me back into a tight hug.
“I won’t forget you, I promise,” he whispered into my hair.
I pulled back and looked into his eyes, “I would hope not,” I replied.
“Isis,” he whispered.
“Jake,” I whispered back.
“I think…this is the part where you kiss me,” he smiled. Kiss him? He wants me to kiss him? This can’t be happening! I felt my fingers twitch slightly as I reached up to his face and pulled his lips to mine.
His lips were soft and warm; at that moment, everything was disconnected from the world. It was just him and I. The kiss broke after a minute and we just smiled.
