The Prophet
Audrey's POV
I sat out by the pond, quietly releasing my pain in silence sobs. I heard the sand crunching under a pair of combat boots. I sniffed a few times, catching my breath and wiping my eyes. A figure in all black sat beside me.
"Hey, how come your all alone out here? Are you OK?" a low voice voice.
"I just needed some time to think...away from everything," I replied. My throat felt so thick.
"I understand, sometimes I just have to step away from everyone. Things can get a bit chaotic to say the least around here. I come out here a lot too."
"Andy?" I asked looking over at him.
"What?"
"Jake was talking about how you guys are leaving for an attack on the tower."
"Yeah, and?"
"Why can't women fight? Why do we have to sit back and worry?"
"Well, Audrey, the thing is that we don't want any women hurt. The shadows target women. They've taken women before. They prey on the fragile and the people who are hurt. It doesn't have to be hurt physically either. They prey in people with anxiety or depression because they know they are easier to torture and the break. They've taken...a lot of people..." his voice trailed off.
"Andy? Are you like Jake? Do you know someone in the tower?" I asked.
"Juliet...my love. Her and Ella were kidnapped. They killed CCs girlfriend Lauren when they did. It was about three months ago. Juliet struggled a lot with depression and they preyed on her. Ella was just a very weak girl to begin with. She was very thin, attractive, but she had issues with her self image. I hate when I sleep, all I can see is Juliet, crying in the corner of a cell. I don't know if it's the prophecy speaking in my head or if it's just my subconscious running rapid with possibilities."
"I'm so sorry Andy."
"I'll live. I will find her. If she's dead I'll bring her back and bury her properly. If she's alive I will never let her go again. We need to get to tower and react orderly, not allowing all of our hopes to rule our minds. I know a lot of men who are missing daughters, wives, sisters, mothers, brothers, friends, all who are locked somewhere in the tower. I just need to figure out a way to keep things orderly once inside the tower."
"Do you even know where they are?" I asked.
"Therre are two entrances, two very very large doors on the side with the serpent matriarchs symbol on them. There is also a smaller set of entry ways on the middle with the fear symbol. They are somewhere on the first floor or the basement cellers."
I looked down in the sand. I guided a finger, drawing out the FEAR symbol that I had seen on the robe and staff of the shadow. "Like that? What's the other?"
Andy put down the cigarette he had lit, and began to draw the image of a snake wrapped around a nail or a sword, something. He took a drag from the lit bud and let out a small huff of smoke.
We spoke about battle strategy and release plans. Andy seemed quite surprised that I had such expense knowledge of war and logical strategy. We discussed different ideas of the initial approach, where's the first of the fight would start. He seemed to like my line formation best. The group would construct a large square, in exact lines. The legion would be at the front of each line, and two other lines would flank. If a line fell, another would follow right behind.
"I'm very impressed, Audrey," Andy said before another drag. He offered me one but I shook my head.
"Thanks, but I don't smoke."
"Would you like to come out and help us prepare weapons tomorrow? I like some of your ideas and I have a strong feeling you could be a big help in fabrication."
"Sure!" I replied.
"We leave the day after tomorrow at the break of dawn. It's a two day trek to the tower, where the real war begins."
"Andy, do you think Juliet and Ella are still alive?"
"I hope. Without her, I don't have anything to fight for anymore. Juliet is my love, my everything. My hope for her is the reason I'm so admit about breaking in the tower. The thought of holding her in my arms again? It fills my body with adrenaline and I'm ready to fight and destroy anything in my way. I do know though, they had to have taken a very severe toll. Not many wild ones survive more than a few months, and the ones that have returned are very sick or have gne complete insane from being locked in the blackness of the cells. They have to be very weak by now."
"Oh."
"I know what you are thinking about Audrey. Things will work out for you in the end." He clasped a hand in my shoudler. "You are very strong, and things will work out."
"Thanks Andy." I stood up. "I'm gonna get some sleep, it's already almost dusk. See you tomorrow."
I returned to the infirmary. I saw Maria, preparing rags and cleaners. I glanced to the side, Balir and CC were sound asleep in each others arms. I sighed and sat on the edge of my bed.
"Are you alright Miss Audrey?" Maria asked as she brought over the scrub for my wound and a cloth. I pulled off my shirt.
"Just tired, it's been a long day."
"Is Master the Mourner not accompanying you this evening?"
"No, he's back at the station."
"You seem troubled my dear." she said as she soaked the cloth in the reddish orange cleaner in the small mug. She gently appled the pressure to my wound and I winced and hissed as the burning began. For the past almost two weeks, Jake had helped me not endure the pain of my wound being cleaned. I forgot just how much this hurt.
"I'll live," I hissed through th pain. Maria soaked a banadgage and secured it over my wound. It was still the size of the head of a spoon.
"Get some rest Miss Audrey."
Maria left the tent and I flopped down on my bed. My mind was still racing. How could I sleep like this?

I really like this I've read I'm a loaded gun part 1 and 2 already
