Legion of the Black: The Beckoning

Chapter Two: The Awakening

“Eve!” I groaned as I heard my mother banging on the door. “Time to get up! You’re going to be late for school!”

“I’m up! I’m up!” I sat up once I heard her stomp away from the door. I walked to the closet and get dressed my usual attire, black skinny jeans, my new Black Veil Brides T-Shirt, my beloved black combat boots, and lastly, my favorite BVB Rebels leather jacket. I looked at the time. 7:27. School doesn’t start until eight and the walk there is like eight minutes so I decided to do my makeup extra carefully today. I never liked foundation or blush because it felt like paper on my face, so I just did a thick line of black eyeliner around my eyes, added just a little bit of black eye shadow, and finally added my regular mascara-I never had a need for the more expensive waterproof mascaras. Finally, I put on my strawberry chapstick. I checked the clock again. 7:41. Wow, not bad. I grabbed my black BVB messenger bag and headed downstairs.

“Ready, Eve?”

“Yeah, I’m heading out now.”

She looked at me and sighed. “Eve, why do you always have to wear black?”

I rolled my eyes. We’ve had this conversation every day since I was 12. “Because it’s my favorite color.”

“It didn’t used to be. And you used to love country pop music before getting into that screaming metal alternative; you changed into a new person.”

I’m getting too used to this. “Because I understand the lyrics and find the lyrics more meaningful and understandable. I still sometimes listen to a little country and electronica pop.”

“That Bloody Dance band? That’s not pop, that’s trashy.”

Blood On The Dance Floor, mom. I rolled my eyes angrily. “Whatever. I gotta go.” With that, I opened the door and walked down my driveway and started the two block walk to my school. I put in my ear buds and put Black Veil Brides on shuffle. Their song “Wretched and Divine” came on and I smiled and changed the settings on repeat.

I walked up to the gate to the school football field and unlocked it with a key I copied. I walked down the running track, passing all the left behind pom-poms and empty water bottles. I walked up the metal stairs, up to the middle of the main bleachers. I pulled out my notebook with the BVB pentacharm and started adding new page to it. I should say that I believe in the Legion of the Black, the band of Rebels that fight to overpower F.E.A.R. for individuality. I’ve always been intrigued by that very fact. I’ve been writing and drawing about this ever since I was 13. I always believed in it since I was little. I have had dreams about the Legion’s leaders and their army of Wild Ones. I bought this notebook for my birthday when I was 13, and have been drawing and writing ever since.

The Rebels approached before their Matriarch, the Chosen, the Wretched and Divine, and their new leader. The Prophet, former leader of the Wild Ones and teacher to the new Matriarch, stepped forward from the band of rebels. The Matriarch nodded to the Prophet, allowing him to speak. He speaks of how long it may be until F.E.A.R. plans another attack, and how it only be just a few days. The Matriarch nods in understanding and looked to all the Wild Ones.

The bell rang and I sighed, closing my notebook. I placed it in my bag and headed towards the school. I heard the chorus play again as I walked through the gates of hell, also known as the gates of my school, “William High School”. Some idiot wrote “control” above the name so now it looks like “William Control High School.” It’s quite ironic, William Control, being the leader of F.E.A.R.

I am the Chosen

Wretched and Divine

I am the Unspoken

The one they left behind

Fearless

Fight until we die

I am broken

The Wretched and Divine

My few friends that were hanging around near the entrance saw and waved at me. I waved back and gave a small smile before continuing onto my next class on the other side of the school. I walked by some different cliques talking and laughing. Two girls noticed me and started whispering at each other. I ignored them. I learned a long time ago not to give a fuck what other people thought of how I looked or what I liked. Thanks to a wonderful band, Black Veil Brides. I don’t really call all of them my saviours because Andy is really the only original and definitely the most dedicated member of his band. I’m not one of those crazy fan girls who pretend to listen because of Andy’s “sexiness”. Don’t get me wrong, I think he is drop-dead gorgeous and his deep baby blue eyes are totally beautiful, but I don’t like the idea of crushing on a celebrity, because it will never happen.

I walked into the classroom and took my usual seat in the back right corner. The room was almost full so I pulled out my notebook. By now students were getting settled and the teacher was starting her lesson. I just rested my head on my left hand and continued writing, looking up every now and then, pretending to be paying attention and taking notes.

“Wild Ones! For almost too long now, we have been surviving and fighting against F.E.A.R. for our freedom and peaceful independence and individuality. You have waited long for your Matriarch, and now I am here. I am the Chosen. I am the Wretched and Divine, and I am here to make sure that we defeat F.E.A.R. once and for all. We will not let F.E.A.R. destroy us. We don’t owe them anything. No Wild One will die a dream forgotten. I’ve got my pride in us, so hear me say, I’ll never let them steal your coffin. We will fight until we are free, even if it means we die. It will not be easy. But we will stand tall, united!

I felt a sharp tapping on my desk and looked up to see the teacher yanking my ear phones out and yelling at me to pay attention. She walked back towards the front and I rolled my eyes and surreptitiously put my left ear bud back in, making it look like I was just resting my head on my hand again. I went back to writing but didn’t get anything else down because I didn’t hear the teacher yell my name and she was tugging my arm, telling me to go to the principal’s office. I saw one of my friends giving me a semi-sympathetic look as I barely got my notebook in my bag before she shoved me out of the classroom. I looked back for a sec and saw him laying his head to sleep. I smiled. Even my friends agree that class is shit. I walked through the hallways, heading to the principal’s office. I changed to the next song on my iPod, “I Am Bulletproof”. What a coincidence? I smiled.

GO!

Here we go

Holding onto to lies

Holding onto ties that vanished

Cute the rope

And fall into the sky

The devil filled our minds with sadness

My favorite part came next as I walked into the office.

The world’s a gun

And I’ve been aiming all my life

Got something to live for

I know that I won’t surrender

A warrior of youth

I’m taking over a shot to the new world order

I am bulletproof

I saw him say something to me along the lines of, “I’m calling your parents.”

I just nodded and got out my notebook and continued my writing while listening to the song.

The Prophet, former leader of the Wild Ones and teacher to the new Matriarch, stepped forward from the band of rebels. The Matriarch nodded to the Prophet, allowing him to speak. But we will stand tall, united! We will be free of F.E.A.R.”

Then, I decided to draw instead. I drew a girl in black, wearing the Legion mask and clutching the BVB Star Charm in her right hand. She was looking back over her shoulder as she ran, running for her life, away from the unknown. Suddenly, I saw the image move and play out in my head. She was running through a desert. Suddenly she stopped and turned, shielding the star in front of her. A F.E.A.R. soldier dashed before her and caused her to fall down backwards onto the ground. The soldier brought up his staff and seemed to be aiming for her heart. She held the star in front of her, as if it’s the only thing she has to save her life. The soldier hesitated before hitting the star out of her hand then towering the star above her. She was trying to scurry away, whimpering helpless pleas for it to spare her. It showed no mercy and plunged the staff into her torso, blood splattering as it stabbed her right side. The soldier disappeared and she felt to her right, only feeling her blood and the star. She slowly drifted to endless blackness. I heard a voice boom across the desert.

We expect the battle for humanity is about to begin.

Within each uprising, a fake sense of safety will ignite in you, and unseen shadow will slip from doubt, towards those who protect, and defend you.

Let the thoughts slip away, and remain calm, stay close to F.E.A.R. only we can protect…

I suddenly found myself back into the principal’s office and saw him glaring at me. Suddenly my parents arrived in the doorway and motioned me to come on. I slowly got up and walked with them back to the car. I was used to seeing things like that, it was my imagination… well at least I thought it was. I had little scenes of F.E.A.R. soldiers marching through the desert but never saw the girl and the F.E.A.R. soldier killing her, this was a whole new “imaginative” image in my head. And did I really hear the voice of F.E.A.R.?
