The Promise

Hey, it's still Renee.
I am now fifteen years old, and I have short BLACK hair now.
No more pink.
My dad is still mad at me for dying my hair.
Anyways, we are finally moving to Ohio.
We're six hours into the eleven hour drive.
I'm working on finishing a book called 'Slated' (A/N I'm actually reading that rn, its so good!)(A/N Twelve days later, I've finished the sequel and am waiting for The Ghost of Ohio to come in the mail.)
Danny is now eight years old (A/N don't ask, i was too lazy to change the first chapter.) and dad stopped hurting mom.
He focuses on me now.
Five hours later.
Finally, we are at the new house.
I work on gathering all the bags that i have right now and get out of the car.
I pull up my shorts a little and start walking inside until my dad pushes me.
"Hurry the hell up." He yells.
I look at my knees and see them bleeding.
I look at the neighbor's house and see a boy with blue eyes staring out at me.
A car pulls into the neighbor's driveway and a boy with light brown eyes and dark hair steps out with a back pack.
He looks over at my house and sees me.
He starts walking over as i stand up.
I look down at my knees an blood is running down my legs.
I pull out a tissue from my pocket and start wiping my legs.
The boy finally reaches me.
"Hey, are you okay?" He asks.
"Uh, yea i'm good." I tell him.
"Do you need help washing up?" He asks another question.
"Um, i guess if you really want to help? All i have is tissues though." I say while pulling a small pack of tissues out my sweatshirt pocket.
He grabs one starts helping me clean my legs.
I pull a water bottle out of one of my bags and get one of the tissues wet and clean the dry blood off.
After cleaning my legs, we stand up again. He holds his hand out for me to shake.
"I'm Ashley." He says. I shake his hand.
"I'm Renee." I smile.
"Renee! Get the fuck in here!" I hear my dad yell for me from in the house.
"Sorry, i have to go." I say before running inside.
Ashley stands there nd watches the door.
My dad comes out and hits me, making me fall.
My dad walks away and up the stairs.
Ashley runs in.
"Oh my gosh, Renee! Are you okay?!" He asks.
I sit up and fix my hair.
"Yea, i'm okay. You should probably go before my dad catches you in here." I tell him. He nods nd stands up.
"See ya, Renee." He says
"Bye, Ashley."
And then he leaves.
-Timeskip to when Renee finishes unpacking and decorating her walls with posters and pictures-

"Renee! Get down here!" I hear my dad yell for me.
I run downstairs and stop in front of my dad.
He's drinking again.
"Go meet the neighbors. Be good. Stay as long as you want. I don't care anymore." He slurs.
"Yes sir." I walk away and pull on my old skool Vans before leaving.
It only takes me a few seconds to walk to the neighbors house.
I knock on the door and a woman with strawberry blonde hair opens the door.
"Hi! I'm Renee, me and my family just moved in. My dad told me to come and meet the ngihbors." I tell her.
"Well hello! I'm Amy, it's a pleasure to meet you! Come inside, i just made cookies!" She tells me.
I smile and walk in.
"Please, make yourself at home. You may take your shoes off or leave them on. Whatever you'd like." She tells me.
I slip off my Vans.
"Thank you, Amy." I say as i sit on the couch and she brings out a plate of cookies.
I grab one and eat a small piece.
"Would you like a tour of the house?" She asks.
"Sure!" I stand up.
She leads me upstairs.
In the first room, even though the door is closed, i hear yelling.
She opens the door.
"Boys! Quiet down and pause your game. We have a guest over!" She tells the people in the room.
Soon I see two boys pop out of the door.
One is Ashley and the other one is the boy with blue eyes.
Ashley lights up when he sees me.
"Hi Renee!" Ashley says.
I wave.
Amy looks at us.
"You two have already met?" She asks.
"Oh, yea! We met earlier when she tripped. I helped her clean up." He tells Amy.
I look down at my knees at the same time he does.
Thank God he didn't say anything about my dad. "Oh! That was very nice of you, Ashley! Anyways, this is my son, Andy." She says pointing at the blue-eyed-boy.
"Hey." he says smiling.
"Hi." I say back.
"So! Who wants to come downstairs, eat some cookies, have some lemonade, and get to know Renee more?" Amy asks before the two boys run downstairs.
Me and Amy start laughing.
As we walk downstairs "So, Renee, how old are you?" Amy asks.
"Oh, right. I'm fifteen years old." I smile.
"Well, I think Ashley might take a liking to you" She says and winks at me.
My face heats up.
My face isn't red when we get downstairs.
Andy and Ashley are talking about video games.
Once I sit down, they stop talking and Ashley sits by me.
Amy winks at me again and i give her a playful glare.
"What's your middle name, Renee?" Andy asks.
"Tyler." I say.
"Tyler Joseph." Ashley says.
I look over at him.
"Actually yes, my mom chose my middle name in honor of Tyler Joseph." We both start laughing.
"What's your last name then?" Ashley asks. "Ironically, its Joseph."
We start laughing again.
"So, let me clarify, your actual full name is Renee Tyler Joseph?" Ashley asks.
"Well, technically i have two last names." I say.
"Oh God." Andy says. "My full name is Renee Tyler Dun-Joseph. But, no. Neither of them are my dads, sadly." I say.
We all start laughing.
An hour later...
I get a call from my dad.
I look up from my phone.
"Be right back." I say and walk over to the front door before taking the call.
"Rey?" Danny says on the other line.
"Danny? Bubba, is everything okay?" I ask.
"N-No." It sounds like he's crying.
"Danny, what happened?" I ask.
"Momma and daddy are in a really big fight and daddy is threatening to hurt us."
I almost drop my phone.
"Okay. I'll be right over, okay Danny? Here's what i want you to do. Grab a duffel bag, one of yours and one of mine. In yours, i want you to put as much clothes in at and what ever you want. In mine, put as much clothes in it, and put my makeup in it. Okay buddy? I'll be over there in five minutes. Hurry." I tell him before ending the call.
I put my phone in my pocket.
I slip on my Old Skool Vans and walk to their living room.
"Guys, i'll be right back. I have to go get my little brother." I say.
Ashley stands up.
"I'll come." He says I nod.
I look at Amy.
"Do you guys have a spare room that me and Danny could use for a few days?" I ask.
"Of course. You pick up your brother, and then we'll get you guys settled." She tells me before standing up.
I walk over and hug her.
"Thank you so so much, Amy." I tell her.
I can tell she smiles.
She pulls away, and tells me to go.
I nod and walk out the door with Ashley.
It's silent until we get to our house.
I hear the yelling and glass shattering from outside.
I turn to Ashley.
"We have to be quiet, an we have to be fast." I tell him.
He nods.
We quietly walk inside.
We get to Danny's room and see him by the door with the two duffel bags.
"Good job Danny." I smile at him.
I grab my black duffel bag that has band/music patches all over it and Ashley grabs Danny's blue duffel bag with dinosaur and car patches on it.
I grab Danny's hand and we quietly get downstairs.
We get outside and start running back over to Andy/Amy's house.
He quickly get inside right as I see dad look out the window.
Two steps into the door, when everyone is inside, i quickly shut and lock it.
I put my duffel bag down, and kneel down to look at Danny.
"Did he hurt you buddy?" I ask.
He nods.
"Can you show Rey?" I ask.
He nods and sits down.
I sit with him.
He pulls up his pant leg and there sits a big cut from one of dad's bottles.
I look at Ashley.
"We need a first aid kit. Now." I say.
He nods and runs to get one.
"Okay Danny. You need to lay down. Can you do that for Rey?" I ask.
He nods and lays down.
I pick him up and carry him to the living room.
"Oh, dear! Is he okay?!" Amy asks when she sees the cut.
"He will be once im done." I say as Ashley runs in with a first aid kit.
Danny tries to sit up.
"No no no no. Danny, you need to lay down and stay down. Stay down from Rey, alright?" I say.
He nods.
"Who's Rey?" Andy asks.
I looks at Andy.
"Me. Rey is my nickname." I say before looking at Danny.
I look at the cut, it looks about two inches deep.
There might be glass stuck in it.
I look at Ashley.
"I need a knife." I tell him.
He nods and runs to get one.
Amy looks at me like im crazy.
"Honey, what are you doing to him? You aren't giving him surgery, are you? You aren't trained for that!" She asks/says.
I look at Amy.
"Amy, my mom is a nurse. She teaches me, trains me, and tests me on this stuff. I know almost everything about medical procedures like this."I say.
She looks amazed.
"This isn't the first time Rey has had to do this." Danny says.
Ashley runs in with the knife.
"I need my duffel bag." I say.
This time, Andy gets up and runs to get it.
"Okay Danny, this is gonna hurt. A lot. But after this we can go to the mall and get whatever you want okay?" I ask/tell him.
He nods.
Andy come back with my duffel bag.
I quickly open it, and right on top is my bag of medical things.
I take it out, grab medicine to put Danny to sleep, and things for stitching.
"You know how this goes, Danny. Put the mask on and just relax." I hand him the mask and he does as i say.
I take his arm, and give him a shot of medicine to put him to sleep.
Almost right away, he's out.
I grab a small blue tarp and put it under his legs.
It has dried blood from before.
I take the knife, and cut, just until i can see the glass.
I take my tweezers, and pull it out.
I put it in a bag, and get my stuff for stitching ready.
Slowly, i stitch his leg up.
After im done stitching, i count.
Twenty stitches.
I pull out my notebook that has the records of all the times i've done surgery, go to Danny's page and record how many stitches, the date, the cause, and where.
I put my notebook back and wrap his leg in antibacterial wrap.
I pull his pant leg down, and take the tarp out. I fold it up and put it away. I take my gloves and mask off, then pick up Danny.
I take his mask off.
"Amy, can you show me to the room please?" I say calm.
She quickly nods and leads me to the room.
Once we are up there, i set him on the bed.
Amy leaves.
Soon, Ashley comes up.
I'm sitting next to Danny, rubbing his head while he sleeps.
I wipe my eyes.
"I'm so sorry bubba. I should have been there so you didn't have to get this cut." I say in a quiet voice, making it obvious that i've been crying.
"This is the worst one yet, and somehow you're still with us, Danny. It's a miracle that your still here." I say, in another quiet voice.
I don't realize Ashley is in here until he sits next to me.
He puts his hand in mine and strokes my thumb.
"Rey, it's not your fault." He says quietly looking at me.
"Yes it is Ash...i wasn't there to protect him..." I say.
"Rey, it's okay. Danny isn't going to blame you. Heck, if i was Danny, i'd appreciate you even more since you have saved my life so many times." He says.
I smile a little.
"Do you need a hug?" He asks.
I nod and turn to him.
He hugs me and i hug him back.
I can hear him start to cry.
He lays down, so he makes me lay down too.
Now, we are basically cuddling.
Hugging, and our legs are tangled together.
We stay like this until i fall asleep.
I think he stays, cause i wake up from Danny whispering "Rey's gotta boyfriend" over and over in my ear.
I open my eyes and turn my head to look at Danny.
"Oh, dang it! You're awake before me!" I whisper.
He giggles.
"I wanna join the cuddle, so then we can have a group cuddle!" He whispers.
I smile and make room for Danny in between me and Ashley.
He slowly climbs in and falls back asleep with his legs and arms wrapped around my torso and his head in my neck.
I smile and play with his hair.
After about ten minutes, Ashley wakes up.
He looks confused.
"Danny woke up and wanted to join the cuddle. 'To make it a group cuddle' he said. I couldn't resist so i let him, and he fell asleep like this." I tell Ashley.
He smiles.
"I'm gonna go make some breakfast, okay?" Ashley asks.
I nod and he gets out of the bed, and walking out.
Almost an hour later, Danny woke up.
Ashley is still making breakfast.
Danny is jumping around crazy, cause i gave him one of the Monsters i keep in my bag.
I drank one too, but right now im just listening to my playlist, which includes P!TAD, FOB, MCR, TOP, and others, while unpacking.
I called mom and told her where we were.
I put my wallet, that has well over $1,000 in it from working, in my pocket.
Finally, Ashley walks in and sets a tray of food of the bed.
He taps my shoulder and pulls out one of my earbuds.
I turn around to him.
"Did you give Danny something?" He asks.
"Oh! Yea, i gave him a Monster. I give him one every morning so he won't want to go back to bed." I tell him.
"OO! Can i have one?!" He asks.
I giggle.
"Sureee. They're in my night stand." He smiles.
"Thank you, Rey!" He calls out before i put my earbuds back in.
Soon, i'm finished with my half of the room.
Danny taps me on the shoulder.
I take one of my earbuds out.
"Rey, your half is so cool! Can you decorate my half?!" He asks.
"Of course i can, buddy." I say.
"Yay! Oh, and can you play your music on your speaker? I wanna listen too!" He asks.
"Of course!" I say happily and grab my speaker.
I turn it on, unplug my earbuds, and turn my music back on.
Dance, Dance starts playing.
Danny laughs while pulling on my arm.
"C'mon Rey! Lets dance!" He yells over the music.
He jumps on the bed and starts dancing while i dance around the room.
After the song, we both collapse on the bed, out of breath.
Welcome to the Black Parade starts.
G-note.
"NOOOOOO!" I yell and put my hands over my face.
I hear Ashley run into the room.
"Rey? Are you okay?" He asks.
"No." I say though my hands.
"What happened, Danny?" He asks.
"G-note." Danny says.
"Oh god, gET THE EYELINER!" Ashley jokes.
I laugh and take my hands off my face.
"Aww there she is!" Ashley says when i take my hands off.
My face turns light pink.
"But seriously, can someone get my make up bag? We're going to the mall today!" I smile at Danny.
"Yay!" He yells and gets up to get my make up bag.
"Oh! Danny! Bring some of the wrap too!" I say, referring to the antibacterial wrap.
A minute later, he comes back with the wrap and my makeup bag.
"Thanks, boo" I smile.
I sit up and take Danny's current wrap off and put a new layer on.
"There ya go!" I say.
Danny smiles.
"Now just lemme get some clothes and shoes, then i'll be ready." I say standing up.
I go to my duffel bag, grab black short-shorts, black tank top, red & black flannel, and finally my black hi-top Converse.
I go into the bathroom and soon come out wearing the outfit, red lipstick, and black-winged eyeliner.
I put my hair up half up-half down.
Top half is bun.
Ashley stares at me, I pretend not to notice.
I Dig through my sweatshirt pocket to find my wallet.
Two minutes later, I finally find it.
I pull out my wallet with a few band logos on it, then it has a logo that says my name.
Ashley comes over and looks at my wallet.
He points to the one with my name.
He looks at me confused.
"I have a YouTube channel. It has a little over 2,000 subs, but when i go out i usually get recognized even if im kinda small." I explain.
"Yea! Rey is like the best YouTuber ever! And she sings soooo good!" Danny says.
Ashley nods in understanding.
I put my wallet in my back pocket.
"Ready to go?" I ask them.
They both nod.
I grab Danny's hand, walk downstairs and out of the house.
Once we get to the mall, I immediately get noticed by a little girl.
"Oh my gosh! Its Renee Joseph!" She yells and runs over to me.
I smile and kneel down right before she hugs me.
I hug her back.
She pulls away.
"Hi! My name is Elizabeth! Your one of my favorite YouTubers ever! Can i get your autograph?" She says quickly.
"Aww, thank you 'Lizabeth! Of course i can give you my autograph!" I say.
Out of my purse, i pull out a small shirt, sign it, and give it to her.
"Yay! Thank you!" She says.
"Lizzy?! Elizabeth?!" I hear a woman call out.
Elizabeth looks over at her.
The woman sees her and rushes over.
"Mommy!" Elizabeth yells.
"Liz! Oh my gosh, i thought i lost you!" The woman hugs Lizzy tight.
I stand up and the woman looks at me.
She smiles a huge smile and puts Elizabeth down.
"Hi, i'm Lilly. I'm Elizabeth's mom. Thank you so so much for finding her." Lilly holds out her hand.
"Hi Lilly! I'm Renee. It's not a problem, it happens all the time." I smile and shake her hand.
She looks about my age.
Why does she have a daughter?
Lilly looks me in the eye.
"Your Renee Joseph! Little Lizzy never stops talking about you." Lilly smiles.
Danny peeks out from behind me.
Lizzy sees him and says "Mommy, look! Danny is here too!" Lilly smiles.
"Hey, can i have your number? Just so Danny and Lizzy can become friends, and then me and you can be friends?" I ask Lilly.
"Of course!"
She pulls out her phone and hands it to me.
I do the same thing.
Once we're done, we part ways.
Ashley looks at me amazed.
I just smile at him.
First stop: Hot Topic.
I get noticed a few times, but once we are done in Hot Topic, Ashley got tons of bracelets, shirts, and more.
Same with me.
Danny only got a few things, since it wasn't exactly a place for kids.
"Rey, can we go to Spencers?" Danny asks.
i almost spit out my Starbucks.
Ashley looks at me with wide-eyes.
"The kid wants to go to Spencers?!" Ashley asks.
I swallow my drink and start laughing.
"Of course we can go to Spencers, bubba." I say.
This time, it was Ashley's turn to almost spit out his drink.
